I bought one. First time I’ve had a desktop computer in like 15 years. It’s great.
I just went from a base M1 Mini to the base M4 Mini..... Frankly, my daily driving experience is wholly unchanged....but TAKE MY MONEY, Apple !
That’s going to be me!
I justified (in my head based on no facts) to get the M4 Mini Pro 😂
@@zalllon That's the path I will take too. Writing that from an MacBook Air M2 which is perfectly fine ^^
I’ve had my base model since the 8th and it more than meets my modest needs. I already had all of the peripherals, including a 2TB external NVME drive, and setup was easy-peasy. I’m very happy with it.
I bought the base Mini and I love the performance of the M4, it's a beast! I added an OFC 1M2 external Thunderbolt 4 enclosure with a Crucial 4TB ssd drive to fix the real problem of avoiding Apple's insane upgrade pricing. Thankfully they included 16GB this time out so no real need to upgrade it, I couldn't agree more with you on that one Noah. This is my first desktop Mac in over 15 years, I'm so happy they did this, it's the best desktop of the year for sure 👍🏼
What was the total cost of your external SSD?
@@legacyShredder1 $100 for the OFC 1M2 enclosure, Crucial T3 Plus 4TB $200 (currently $212 on Amazon, the price fluctuates a lot).
It is insanely good value so long as you can make do with the base spec.! As soon as you start checking boxes the value proposition is immediately blown out of the water, and the base SSD in particular is pretty tight! If you can make do with the $599 machine, anything from M1 onward is probably just as adequate, particularly if it has more RAM and/or SSD.
Great video, buddy and I’ve had mine for about a week and I love it
I think I’m going to get one to replace my base M1 mini. The M1 is just fine for Lightroom but a little more speed wouldn’t hurt.
I enjoy the Mac Mini M4, it is fast and easy to use. However, if you have the money, go for the M4 Pro Mac Mini, it is a night and day difference from the Base M4 Mini.
How did you notice that difference?
Totally agree better memory better storage. I’ll have to buy. Future proof will run absolutely everything with out a problem
@@showdown2006 More cores !
I'm always tempted to get a Mac Mini. The latest one is even more tempting. But I always move around. Portability trumps everything.
$499 at Costco for base model
I have the 2017 iMac and it looks gorgeous but is underwhealming with the Intel CPU. I have ordered the M4 Pro. Yes, I don’t need it but I’m still remembering the HP Pavillion in 2000 and swore I’ll never again buy a PC built to a price. Over the years I built my own to excess capacity and love benchmarking and tweeking. I know I can’t tweek this one.
In Australia, the M4 Pro costs double at $2800. With 1TB.
Agree with the Mac Mini Pro, I would pay for extra RAM as you can't upgrade it yourself. Extra Internal storage from Apple..nope, nope and nope !! Buy external SSD storage - cheaper.
@ The Pro starts at 48GB RAM. I would have been happy with 16. My Windows machine has 32GB
@@darylcheshire1618Actually, the pro model starts at 24GB.
When comparing the M4 base Mac Mini to other mini-PCs, there have been other mini-PCs that small. Just none with the CPU monstrous performance at that price.
- Minisforum EliteMini Ai370 outperforms it, but costs $1099.
- Beelink SER9 outperforms it, but it costs $989.
- Geekom A8 is a good value at $700, but the CPU doesn't compete with the regular M4 Mac Mini.
Should I buy the M4 Mac mini with the m4 16gb 512gb or m4 pro 24gb 512gb for my use case? And do I need 1tb or 512gb is good enough? I need it for beginners photo and video editing, programming, web browsing, watching RUclips videos, listening to music and podcasts with high quality audio interface and headphones amp.
You don’t need a pro chip, maybe 1tb for future proof, but the base model it’s good enough
I got a pro just to not feel is going to fail. Base model. Storage I have like 10tb of portable so I won't worry about it
I’ve been thinking of the same but the 512 has faster speeds since the Mac has two 256 chips rather than the base 256 but split into 128 chips. I’ve also seen RUclipsrs downloading alll their software and only have 40gbs remaining in the 256. If you can, get the 512 and buy a thunderbolt enclosure for m.2 ssds and use that for more storage. Amazon is selling it rn for 50 dollars cheaper.
I think the base M4 model will serve you really well. I'd also invest into a nice, fast external drive for your usage case :)
@@NoahHerman Ok, thank you Noah!
And which specs would you choose of ram and storage?
Also, debating between Mac mini vs MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro. Not sure if I will take out the machine but I know for sure 95% of the time it will be on the desk plugged to an external monitor.
UPDF looks great, but is wildly overpriced, and you have to pay for Chat GPT all over again, even if you’re already paying for it. Hard pass.
The Base model is fine to me, can't game on a mac so storage use is like 90gb for the few apps used + system + few files that get sent to the cloud soon after
(My phone has 26 apps including appstore, calculator, etc and have no idea how anyone could ever need 1TB on any device unless they game or do video editing)
I have a home recording studio using Presonus Quantum Thunderbolt 2 audio interface, and Presonus Studio One. Will this work with a Thunderbolt 2 device (using a cable converter)? Also, do you recommend the Pro with 48 gig of ram for multi-track audio with lots of plugins?
Actually 2011 design isn’t “new”. It’s 2010 Mac mini server design.That’s why design is 2010, not 2011
I want one so badly but not yet available here in the Philippines.
waiting for a proper mini mac m4 hub
This market is about to pop off,!
What's the best way to connect a monitor. I have a Dell U2723QE. Should I connect with DP cable or HDMI or type C?
USB-C
Hi! What about a monitor for this Mac?
The BenQ MA320U is pretty great! I'm going to post a video about it soon :)
The two ports on the front are USB-C, but they share a 10 Gbps bus, which is just another stupid, stupid design decision so Apple can eke out a tiny bit of extra profit at the customer’s expense.
I’ll stop you right there I already bought one.
Won’t SIRI shut down your Mac with a command? Works on ios
My budget is $1k plsssssssss I need help choosing a monitor, idk if I want the apple mouse and keyboard. Picking up a computer on Saturday. Need all the advice I can take plsss thxx y’all
After buying the Mac mini do you have about $300 left? Start with fb marketplace and look for a 27” or 32” 4k. Expect to pay $200+. With what’s left over you can find something cheap on marketplace until you can for a specific keyboard/mouse.
Skip the Apple mouse. NOT ergo POS, get a LogiTech gaming mouse

I cannot even look at a Mac. My $2799.00 2015 Mac died after 2 years. Power supply died. Makes for expensive desktop computing.,,,
Putting the power button on the bottom was a decision by Apple’s designers, who always choose form over function because they’re incompetent and not very smart.
In 2024, they still don't have wifi 7? Sorry don't want it
