One of the best cold steel out there...for me it's a one hand closing knife...i have no problem to open it and to closing with one hand ....i love this knife so much...One of my favorite CS...anyway i changed the handle color in black...it seems a different knife...a loot more beautiful
like it . dont need pretty for a tool function over form ..ergonomics are critical for safety imho one hand close ,,hold knife at 45% to level press lock it will fall to a point just free of the lock ,reposition hand flip closed
Closing: I engage the lock-button and then just roll it spine-first along my leg, moving my fingers when I feel the detent about to give, then snap it closed. I do the same with my Buck 110, so I've always been befuddled that people call these types of knives two-hand-closers. Just be creative! It's no more dangerous than a liner/framelock closing.
There's nothing wrong with the knife being a two hand closer for edc, after all folks carried two hand knives for decades and it was just fine, some people would rather have the old school type of knife with some modernizations !! Nice vid tho

The tooth acts as a thumb rest when the knife is open. The nut is better for slow roll opening as it adds more traction. What are those little things you have attached to your thumb studs on all the other knives you showed. I know the purpose is to have it open upon taking it out of your pocket. Do they have a name and where can I find them?!?!?
I cut my finger alot the same sorta way on my broken skull at first, I learned to move my finger up to be just below the centerline of the pivot and let the edge hit my finger nail. It's become natural for me now, but it wasn't at first. Also the two knives aren't shaped anything alike and I dont own a Bush Ranger so that might not work at all ergonomically.
Good to see they didn't coat the blade on this one at least, but IMO they really missed the boat by not giving it a 4-inch blade (and the fact that it's overpriced). There are way, way too many small blades out there already ... don't need another one.
I guess maybe it's not fair to call it "small" per se ... relative to a Recon 1 though, and given the style of this particular knife, there's just something about it that says (to me) it should be a "big blade" ... right up there with a BM Vicar or Adamas, for example. I'll probably end up getting one anyhow, if the price is right :-)

I try to give my other folders pocket, and, use time, but, the Recon 1 ends up being _the_ carry knife I default to. I guess it's my perfect EDC folder.
I read somewhere that S35vn is tougher than XHP. If so, for this model and the SR1, S35vn may be the better option. Still bummed about the change though. Spyderco can still get XHP it seems.

Nope. The finger guillotine is an absolute deal breaker. Especially because it's an outdoors knife. I've never seen this on other big CS knives - not my Colossus, or Recon, or Talwar, so this is a new and improved problem, and it's an ER visit waiting to happen. When you're out on a long hike, tired, maybe cold and shivering, or overheated and dehydrated, your thinking and coordination will be compromised, and you're GOING to forget about this detail, and Helloooooo Slicey Finger! Nope, nyet, nein, uh-uh, negatory. Notwithstanding that safety issue, Cold Steel's failure to do proper plunge grinds and sharpening choils is a long-standing, ongoing, frustrating issue, but to their credit, they got it wrong on this knife in a DIFFERENT way than they usually do. I guess that's progress? Tell you what; get a $12 Mora Pro C or Mora Pro S, try it out on a day hike, and see if it isn't both easier to carry and more useful. I dare you :)
That finger guillotine is a deal breaker, the only other CS that does that is the finn wolf, the too thick blade, too thick behind the edge and being too heavy are deal breakers. I'm a cold steel fan boy but I don't know what Lyn was thinking with this one. The ultimate hunter is the supreme outdoors folder, it's replaced my fixed blade when I go out.

The lines remind me of the Al Mar SERE attack, looks like a very capable knife for outdoor stuff.

I like this model quite a bit. But not enough to justify a purchase when I already have the nearly perfect clip point Recon 1.

Personally for the same price I’d go for a fixed blade it would do everything better for a similar size

Definently dont recomend closing a cold steel like that. I severed my extenser tendon on my right index finger with one closing it with one hand.
Ouch! I'll consider myself fortunate.

I never cut myself on a cold steel but I cut my tendon on a leatherman wave knife when the lock failed and cut my tendon
