I work in civil service in Illinois. Every year, I have to conduct the most unbelievably boring ethics training, calling out conflicts of interest, proper handling of contracts, and reporting on financial and ethical matters. Every year, we get new stories of people abusing the system and getting fines and jail time. If I am given a door prize, I have to donate it or make an in-kind donation so I do not get any compensation from a vendor or organization.
It never ceases to amaze me that all these rules never apply to the elected politicians.
And not only that, you are likely to get attacked for doing your job, if you ever dare call out a politican.
You can't expect them to live on less than a few months of work in Washington and a larger salary than most of the nation! That's cruelty to our senior citizens! /S

She will receive some time. Financial investigation is a slow process. Problem is that most likely will be state charges and this is illinois. She's a black woman democrat in a deep blue state with huge black population. So all that will be spinned into politics, racism and misogyny with a bunch of blacktivists.
My prediction it will take years before charges will be brought up to court and she'll cut a deal with no real prison time, only probation.

Its because they never had any laws on the books to recall someone. The town never had any problems before her. When they tried to create those laws, they couldn't do it because she wouldn't sign and pass the laws. There is current legislation in the works in Illinois to allow for the recall of local government officials statewide. She's literally the catalyst for state wide change.
This entire country has operated on essentially a gentleman's agreement to not do shit like this, all it took was for people to just not care enough to do anything about it
