Thanks very much for this important piece you put in place. It has answered most of my questions but I have one question which is. I have a degree in petroleum and when I go through the website I cant find FE in petroleum.
Hello Have a question. This is the first taker of FE exam. Is the FE reference in the format of PDF, so I could use "search" tool during the exam? Or should I be just relied on the index from the back of the book? Please, reply. Thank you.
Hello, in the exam, you will have the FE reference PDF format, you will be to search as well, but this is how the search box looks like, ruclips.net/video/qOFDTXKH47A/видео.html! Hello Ahmed, that is a great question. For most questions are in order as shown in the specifications. However, sometimes, you might get a question from previous section. It happened to me when I took my FE exam, I was in dynamics and surveying and I got a question in math. I hope this prepares you better for your exam. Thank you for watching and please share with your friends who might find this video helpful. Good luck!
Hello I am a working engineer from India and working in India currently. I design HVAC systems for US projects with clients who are licensed professional engineers. I want to appear the FE and than PE. I am concerned about the requirements of credentials evaluations by NCEES. My college in India got NBA accredited (ABET equivalent as per Washington Accord) in 2018 and I passed my engineering in 2017. Can I prevent myself from this credentials evaluation.
Great video! One question: the NCEES site says "The FE is offered in seven disciplines" and when I look in, say Industrial I only see Industrial questions. But the FE has general questions, too, right? I thought you said one half (1st part) is general, and 2nd part is specific: so does the "FE Other Disciplines" cover the general Engineering Core area tested??
Hello Steve, thank you for watching. So some disciplines would cover the general engineering classes, for examples, if you look at FE civil, in the morning, it covers general topics, like math, statistics and probability, static, mechanics of materials and so on, in the afternoon, it covers topics are specific to civil engineering, like concrete, steel, transportation, environmental, hydrology/hydraulics. FE other disciplines covers general engineering. Are you planning to take your FE but you are not sure which discipline to take?
@@Genieprep YOU ARE AWESOME with such a quick reply!! No, I want to take Industrial/Systems but want to know what to study. I see yours covered some Engineering econ and IE stuff, but I don't see any of the statics, dynamics, fluids, thermo in IE specification ??
Thank you Steve, some of the FE disciplines don't cover the general engineering topics, so you just need to go over the specifications of your own discipline and study those topics for your FE exam. I hope this helps and good luck with your exam!
@@Genieprep Again, thank you for your thoughtful and timely reply!!! Do you happen to know if PE exams REQUIRE the discipline-specific? In other words, is the Other only good for disciplines NOT on the list of 6? A related question is regarding those "old folks" that took the general exam prior to CBT and now want to go for PE - Does the PE accept FE from general (pre 2016) and then something else after CBT?
Hi I have a question regarding the NCEES handbook. You recommended to not purchase the book as we will be given the electronic version during the test. My question is can one Command+Find or how can I find/familiarize myself with the handbook so I'm not wasting time looking for a formula... I just started studying. I would appreciate any help.
Hello, so during the exam, you will have the option to search for the equations. However, it doesn't look like when you search on your PDF and do control+F. But if you do control+shift+F, you will get the search bar that is very similar to what you will be provided on the FE exam. I hope this helps and good luck.
@@Genieprep Okay, I see thank you for the advice. If you have any other tips I would greatly appreciate it. I've been studying for a little less than a month and it feels like the more I study the more I don't know.. is this normal? What do you recommend ?
That is completely fine to feel this way. You probably forgot some of the material. I would recommend that you keep studying, keep learning, try to study everyday, be consistent, and overcome your weaknesses. At the end of your studying period, you are going to be surprised how much information your brain has captured. I would not stress too much about it. Good luck!
Hi, I'm planning to take the FE exam this year. I just watched your video and I had a doubt about the two sessions that you mentioned the exam is divided into. You said that the first session is of basics of engineering and the second of the discipline one wants to pick. In the NCEES website you can only find prep materials for the discipline you want to go for but not for the basics of engineering nor they say anything about it. Where can I see that in detail?
Hello Fernando, what I meant is that the first part of the exam is usually the subjects that you will take in your first year of college, like statics, materials, strength of materials, math and so on, the second sessions is based on subjects that are more specific to your major, for example for civil engineers will be tested on Geotechnical engineering, transportation, environmental, construction, structural analysis, surveying and so on. Where as for mechanical engineers will be tested on heat transfer, thermodynamics and so on. I hope this make sense!
It says on the website that the reference handbook is provided during the exam as a searchable PDF. Does this mean that you can use ctrl+f to search the document quickly for keywords pertaining to the current question?
@@stephencangelosi1310 yeah np. i believe they also give a brief demonstration on how to do it as well before starting the exam. This is from my source as I haven't taken the exam yet. My exam is on the 13th
Hello Ron, there are some concepts on the FE that are not on the reference manual but not equations! Most of the equations are provided to you on the reference manual. Also, the Linderburg doesn't really prepare you for what to expect on the FE exam, so make sure you get the right material. I am also going live tomorrow on RUclips at 3 PM PT and I am going to talk about how to plan for the FE and also how to choose the right resource, make sure you don't miss it! Hi, I bought FE Civil Problems by Lindeburg, just have a question regarding Foundation, I just notice first question solving terzaghi bearing capacity factor unable to solve problem and trying to look for the Terzaghi factor table and I scan the reference book page per page and I didn't find it.
Hello Vic, I don't think you would get something like this on the test because you will need to remember the equations and tables and usually the FE exam is not designed for questions like that. I actually did a video on what topics you should focus on for Geotechnical engineering and I go over the specifications and the reference manual. If you are interested on the video, here is the link www.patreon.com/enGENIEer. I hope this helps 😊 and good luck!
You can take the FE other disciplines and then PE civil but I don't really recommend it. If you are planning to take PE civil, it is better to take FE civil!

I hope this answers your question et je te souhaite bonne chance.
Merci beaucoup pour ta quick réponse Kendza,j apprécie vraiment ton aide. Je prends note et vais me préparer en conséquence. Je te ferais un petit coucou plus tard pour le résultat ^^. A toute.
Does anybody here know if you couldn't go to the exam due to an emergency and have a "no show" status on your exam score, does that count as the 3 attempts? Meaning I still have 2 attempts left or do I still have 2 attempts left?
Hello Ropert, so you can take the FE exam up to 3 times per year. If you pass the third time, you will still get your EIT certificate. I hope this answers your question and have a wonderful weekend!
An update, I took a PE exam last week and passed it. Anyone want to get assistance about PE Mechanical: Machine Design and Materials. Please let me know. Thank you for your youtube!
Hello Ron, yes that's actually correct. Whatever time you don't use in the 1st session, it gets added to the 2nd session. Good luck with your studying.
@@Genieprep does 25 minutes break can only be taken after 55 questions? this means I can only see 55 questions at first then I have to finish it before proceeding with the break? then only after the 25-minute break I can access and see the next 55 problems?
@@ronaberin435 @Ron Aberin Hi Ron, so the first part usually has 54-58 questions and the second part has 52-56 questions. You will have about 5.5 hours to take the exam. You can't take the break until you complete the first half. Any breaks before then will be unscheduled and deducted from your time. After you've completed the first half you can take a 25 minute scheduled break. If you decide not to, it will not be added to your time. Once you take the break, you cannot go back to the first section of the exam.

Yes, so you have a total of 5hr 20min, and you get to spend that as however you want! So let's say, you spend 2 hrs on the first 55 questions, and then you will be asked to take break, after your break, you will have only 3hr 20 min to finish the rest of the exam! Also, keep in mind, that once you take your break, you can't go back to the first questions, so make sure you review your answers before your break. I hope this helps and thank you for watching! Good luck with your studying!
I didn't take the EIT exam when I graduated because (1) back then there was a combined EIT exam for all engineering disciplines with an emphasis on thermodynamics (mechanical engineering) for some reason, (2) there was a severe post Cold War recession with 2 ads a month for electrical engineers requiring 5 to 7 years experience and NO EIT, and (3) a fairly bright classmate flunked it by 1 point. I know that PE are in demand, an exam you take after a year or two of working as engineer with EIT, but Engineering isn't a high demand job for me to find work due to other unrelated factors so now I drive Uber.
Your breakdown of the first section and second section are incorrect according to NCEES. On one of their videos, this was their response to that topic. "The difference between the old format and the new, computer-based format is that the exams are now entirely discipline-specific. You can download the specifications for each exam on this webpage, but it doesn't indicate which questions are in the first 55 and which are after the break. We do not make that distinction."
That is true, we cannot make that distinction, I totally agree with that. But from my own experience, and after talking to my students and friends who took the F.E. exam, they said that the first part would cover materials on math, statics, strength of materials and so on. I was just sharing that information totally based on my own experience, however, if during the exam, you get a question on concrete on the first part, then take the time needed to answer the question. I guess what I am trying to say is just make sure you prioritize your time correctly, keep track of the time, so you can finish the test on time. I hope that make sense.
That makes sense. Have you heard if the questions jump around to the different sections or do a set of questions come up before moving to the next subject? For example, the first 4 questions are math, the next 5 are statics vs 1 math then 2 statics then 1 strength of materials.
@@coyp.999 It does jump a little bit but not a lot. For example, you may get 4 questions in math, 3 in statics then 1 in math again. So it just depends, but the majority of the time, you will get set of questions on a subject before jumping to the next one.
great video. Did the questions come in order of topics or do they pop out random? Just wondering because I believe a good strategy is to go to the topics your strong in and do those first and leave the tougher subjects for later.
From my experience, it did go in order, however, sometimes you might randomly get 1 question in transportation while you are in the fluid section. So it really depends, I hope this answers your question and good luck 😊

Hello Muthanna, so what I usually recommend to my students is to always refer to the specifications and the reference handbook. If there is an equation or a topic in the reference manual but it is not mentioned in the specifications then don't worry about it, it is probably relevant to the other FE exams. I will try to post some videos on what to focus on for each subject for the FE civil. I hope this helps and good luck with your studying.

My college in India got NBA accredited (ABET equivalent as per Washington Accord) in 2018 and I passed my engineering in 2017.
Can I prevent myself from this credentials evaluation.
Which book would you recommend to use for studying for FE Mechanical Engineering?
Thank you 🙏
Great video!
@@stevekramer8892 It doesn't matter which FE you take, as long as you have the FE. Once you have your FE, then you can take the PE. Good luck!
Good luck!
@@Genieprep Thank you for the support ! I will try my best and pledge a donation upon passing my exam !! :)
@@Genieprep perfect, now I got the point. Thanks a lot!!!
Is it possible to categorize your flagged items?
Unfortunately no, you can only check the question number and go back to each flagged question.
@@Genieprep good to know, thank you.
@@BicycleFunk We recommend that you make a table on your paper to categorize the questions from easy to hard.

Hello Ron, there are some concepts on the FE that are not on the reference manual but not equations! Most of the equations are provided to you on the reference manual. Also, the Linderburg doesn't really prepare you for what to expect on the FE exam, so make sure you get the right material.
Could you use the FE general to take the PE Civil in a few years? Or do you must take FE Civil to take the PE Civil?
You can take the FE other disciplines and then PE civil but I don't really recommend it. If you are planning to take PE civil, it is better to take FE civil!
I am 7 years out of undergrad, studied mechanical engineering but been in the civil industry and studying for the civil FE. I just feel I am not retaining anything. Anyone else feel that way? Any tips?

I hope this answers your question et je te souhaite bonne chance.
Merci beaucoup pour ta quick réponse Kendza,j apprécie vraiment ton aide. Je prends note et vais me préparer en conséquence. Je te ferais un petit coucou plus tard pour le résultat ^^. A toute.

So the time saved on the first session can be used on the second session?
Yes, so you have a total of 5hr 20min, and you get to spend that as however you want! So let's say, you spend 2 hrs on the first 55 questions, and then you will be asked to take break, after your break, you will have only 3hr 20 min to finish the rest of the exam! Also, keep in mind, that once you take your break, you can't go back to the first questions, so make sure you review your answers before your break. I hope this helps and thank you for watching! Good luck with your studying!

You can fail 3 times in 12 months period. But you can keep taking it as much as you want!

I am sorry to hear about your exam! You can email me at hello@engenieer.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can!
I'm 60 years old now(also Not directly working as an ME)..and I want to take it "just for me"..Go for it Amir! You will be glad you did!
I'm from india. Is it possible to get a intP.E from india?
You have to qualify F.E. exam first
great video.
So it really depends, I hope this answers your question and good luck 😊
taking it tomorrow lol
I hope you did well. Keep me posted on your result 😊
I passed! I had only been able to study a little bit at the beginning of this semester and then a couple Marshall University review videos every week a few weeks before the test. My question is what is the exact subject we have to study from review book without wasting time on subject that we do not need it.
I am talking now for FE civil exam.
