I grow organic blueberries. They're actually sweeter the day after you pick them. Very good video. Wondering how these guys keep the birds off of their bushes!! 😂 I've had to build an entire structure around them for the birds in the summer and the hares in the winter!
@@odafjm5 I HATE Japanese beetles!! They're now chewing up my cherry tree leaves. Such destructive little things!! They'll eat up all of my grape vines leaves too. They're having a harder time getting to the blueberries since the netting and haven't yet touched (knock on wood) my kiwi vines.
@You scared? I know, but they're not native and don't yet have a natural predator other than us humans. So they infest rather than just show up here and there. They'll kill entire trees and plants. Once they've placed their pheromones on something they like, thousands show up. They're a real pest.
I used to think how u talked to the camera was a bit odd but mow that I see u all the time it’s so refreshing and comforting cus ur just being more real than everyone else and ur like genuinely excited. Ily thank u lol
Fun fact: the blueberries you see in stores are usually all different. There are different types of blueberries and they were once known as starberries by natives because of their star-shaped crown.
We used to pick wild blueberries every September where I grew up. We'd get gallons and my mom would make jams, freeze some, and we'd have some just in a dessert dish after dinner. They are my favorite berry.
Wow! Blueberry picking is one of my favorite summer activities. Peaceful and fun and such a treat. I can’t wait. Here in New England, prime picking starts in the next few weeks. The tart reddish ones are great for baking! 😉
The reddish blueberries are my favorite 🤤 they’re more tart and not a mushy as the full ripe blueberries. I’d love to have a bucket of reddish blueberries to make delicious but tart jam and vinaigrette 😋
Right! I can imagine he was such a joyful little kid that all the old ladies wanted to pinch his cheeks and tell him how they could eat him up lol. And now he’s a positive man, being around positive people is very good.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you probably meant bilberry. I get what you were trying to say - it's a different berry, smaller and darker in color, but it called bilberry in English (I googled that, don't come at me). Good luck with your wild harvest tho) In my area we have a lot this year. Already made jam from the first forest batch
@@nastiasudislavleva2894 No, bilberries are a type of European plant related to blueberries. I’m in the central United States, and we get lots of wild blackberry plants here. They’re really tasty if you can beat the deer to them!
Not sure how everyone else picks blueberries. Here in New Jersey we make make a twine “belt” through a coffee can and tie around your waist. Frees up both hands for quicker picking!
Babb's Blueberry farm near us will have new owners running it I last saw. Also, this means a new name. They couldn't do a U-pick this year sadly. So I look forward to meeting the new family over there, cuz my youngest really misses those blueberries! And I miss making real blueberry muffins. The ones at Walmart or Aldi's that come from out of state have been moldy or not ripe and sour within 24hrs even. Locally grown blueberries is best for folks who have any local to them.
My family and many families from my dad’s side have lake houses by a big forest so ever since I was maybe around 3 years old my grandpa has been taking me to pick blueberries from the forest and from the nearby small islands as well :D Super relaxing and totally pays off when you got blueberries lasting for the rest of the year
I live in the country, and my neighbor has 6 blueberry TREES!! They have been there over 18 yrs! He takes what he wants, then offers me the rest, until they stop producing. I got 2 1/2 ziplock gallons this season...for FREE!! I make blueberry cobbler and stuff, and always take him some. He's an older gentleman, and he loves the fresh baking goods. 🤤 Great trade, if you ask me! 😇💝
Another tip: don’t wash them till u are ready to eat them. They have a protective coating that helps them from going bad but once u wash them they will decay faster
I was fortunate to grow up with our own little orchard. It grows in the bush like they are wild, we never tend to them, we just watch for when they ripen. We enjoy them when the bear doesn’t get at them. 😹
Where I'm from like nobody has blueberry farms cause there's forest everywhere and you can barely go 100 meters onto a forest without finding a ton of wild blueberries and raspberries.
Ah, blueberrys i know of are close to the ground so you end up grabbing a whole branch and swiping your hand up to collect all the berrys to get a handful. The idea is to pick as many as possible so you dont bend over that much. It would take wayy to much time to only pick the best ones
What's annoying is all the blueberries you buy at the grocery are squishy and gross. I like them firm and it never happens unless I'm picking them myself during the season. Any other time they are only good for smoothies 🤷
Exactly! I grew up in Sudbury Ontario where the soil is perfect for wild blueberries. Not only are they sweeter and more flavourful, but when they’re small they have a better mouth feel.
I'm sooo sorry. I'm from northern Canadia , and the wild blueberries that I have harvested all my life, by the bucketful are impossible to beat. I can't eat those "grapeish" blueberries 😂 they taste like nothing to me. 😅

They use a sound machine with bird sounds that keep them away, for beetles they use milky spore, nematodes, and plantings that attract them away!
@@odafjm5 Never mind, they found the blueberries...

I frickin love the pinky/purple ones. They have that classic Blueberry flavor but they are so sour sometimes.

If they come off with little resistance they're ready. If there's resistance they're not ready yet.
It’s blackberry season in my area right now, and that means I get to go out into the forest and pick wild blackberries!

My parents have 3 very large blueberry bushes. Over 8 feet tall and wide. Almost time to pick. Love them. Thanks for vlog.
I love the pinkish red ones they are way more sweeter. Tastes good!!

When I go picking I usually put the bucket under the branch and give it a good shake. All the ripe ones fall and the red ones stay.
I pick mulberry and black raspberry that grow wild in the city center. Such a joy!
I actually love it when the blueberries are tart!
I have 8 blueberry bushes they truly are wonderful
There's one right around the corner from my house. I hope to go this week!

I guess if I was looking I’d find myself at blackberry top farms . It’s just a preference !
As soon as I saw the name of the farm, I came straight to the Comments to find a person who thinks like me!🤣🤣😉😉

Ngl my guilty pleasure are the slightly unripened blueberries. The tartness just does it for me lol
We have a blueberry farm not far from my house but now I’m too lazy to pick them myself, so I just buy them.
You are so very lucky. I live in southern, Az. :(
We do have a blueberry farm here and I've always wanted to go but never have. I will try to get there now!

I have a couple that were loaded. The deer ate them as soon as they were ripe. :(
Put in poles and three lines of zap. Otherwise, you don't have blueberries at all, just deer feeders.
We used to have a blueberry farmer in our area, but they took out all the bushes.
I'm a first time garder. I got brussel sprouts and swiss chard growing.
Another tip is that if you twist the berry and it comes off easily, it's ready. If it doesn't come off when twisted, move on. 😎👍🏻
When i was a child we always picked blueberries in the forest lol
I actually really like the tart ones
I want to use the market blueberry. I just want to try it on because it's really rare on Malaysia. 😅
New subbie!! I love your channel and content!!
Organic =
• No fertilizers
• No pesticides
• Basically no added things.
In conclusion: Get GMOs to end world hunger.
I love blueberries. When should you plant blueberries? I was thinking of some blueberry pies I bought in the past. My favorite berry.

My mom’s girlfriend grows blue berries so we get them fresh fresh

"Blueberry bottom"... 😏
Those blueberries are nothing compared to fresh mountain blueberries, which are smaller in size but much sweeter and has more flavour.
Exactly! I grew up in Sudbury Ontario where the soil is perfect for wild blueberries. Not only are they sweeter and more flavourful, but when they’re small they have a better mouth feel.
This year i went for the first time to picked Blue Beeries in a Farm and its so fun🥳
its all fun and games until you have to really pick all those small berries by hand in direct sun
I don’t wash them until I use them. I think they last longer in the fridge that way.
i love blueberries. i could eat a gallon easily
I wish I had these pick up farms in my country
I'm sooo sorry. I'm from northern Canadia , and the wild blueberries that I have harvested all my life, by the bucketful are impossible to beat. I can't eat those "grapeish" blueberries 😂 they taste like nothing to me. 😅
Totally agree, I grew up in Sudbury!
Yes yes yes I'm ready
I have never heard of this place, and it is only an hour from me!
Ours aren’t organic but ours do ripen more after 1 to 2 days off the bush
wow!!!!!
and if you don`t use them to make Vallery Lomas`s blueberry buckle recipe, you're missing out

My husband and I picked blueberries two Saturdays ago. They are already in the freezer. It's not organic though.
They look great! Unfortunately for me I’m allergic 😤😔so can’t eat ‘em no matter how yummy they look

They need a very acid soil that is well drained.

Wild, forest blue berries are THE REAL deal.
The red ones are the best thoooo 🤤🤤🤤
