Matthew John Anderson (born 18 April 1987) is an American volleyball player. He is currently a member of the Italian club Modena Volley and the United States men's national volleyball team, with whom he was a participant of the Olympic Games (2012, 2016), 2014 World League and 2015 World Cup. On top of his other accolades, he is also a 2013 NORCECA Champion and a 2008 Pan American Cup gold medalist.
Personal life
Anderson was born in Buffalo, New York to Michael and Nancy Anderson. His father, Michael Anderson, died in January 2010. He has three older sisters named Jennifer, Joelle and Amy and one older brother named Joshua. Joelle and Amy both played volleyball in their college years. Has a tattoo on his wrist in honor of his nephew Tristin, who is autistic. Also had a tattoo in honor of his late father. Matt graduated from West Seneca West Senior High School in 2005. Engaged to fiancé Jackie Gillum since May 2019 who gave birth to their son Michael James “Jamie” Anderson on January 31st, 2020.

Clubs
In his senior year, he led the West Seneca boys' volleyball team to a 17-0 regular-season record and a Sectional Finals appearance, losing to eventual state champion, Hamburg, in 3 sets. In 2004, the team were the 2004 Division I State Champions. He played club volleyball for Eden Volleyball Club in Eden, New York. Anderson followed an uncharacteristic growth path in his youth - only reaching his full height (6'8") as a Sophomore at Penn State. His original position was middle - playing that in his Sophomore and Junior seasons of high school. As he became more experienced in the game, he spent more time in the Outside and Right-side for Eden VBC. He ranks amongst the top alumni of the distinguished club to this day.
Anderson finished his career in Penn State with 1,212 kills and 82 aces, both which rank in the top 13 in Penn State history. He had a decorated career, especially in 2008 as he helped lead the Nittany Lions to their second ever NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship against Pepperdine. He was named the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player for his 29 kill performance against the Waves. Other awards for 2008 include EIVA Player of the Year, AVCA National Player of the Year, AVCA First Team All-America, and All-EIVA First Team.
On July 1, 2008, he announced he would forgo his 2009 senior year at Penn State and signed a professional contract with Hyundai Capital Skywalkers of the Korean League In his debut season, Anderson helped the Skywalkers claim first in the regular season before losing 3-1 in the championship series. Season 2010-2011 spent in the Italian League as a player of Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia. Then he moved to Casa Modena. Since 2012, he has played for Russian club, Zenit Kazan. With this club, he won a bronze medal in the Russian Championship and CEV Champions League in 2012-2013. In the season 2013-2014, his team won the title of Russian Champion and Anderson was the Most Valuable Player of the Russian League.
On October 29, 2014, Anderson suspended his volleyball career. He asked for the termination of the contract with Zenit Kazan because of depression. On December 26, 2014 Anderson announced his return to Zenit Kazan, but only in CEV Champions League matches.
On February 13, 2017, Anderson announced that he had signed a contract to remain with Zenit Kazan for another season.
Anderson decided to return to Modena Volley for the 2019-20 season.

I think team USA has the best pipe ball smashers in the world🔥❤️
Hit like who agrees
True - but Christenson gets a good chunk of the credit for that.
Also, no.
@@IPG4 Being a setter myself i totally understand and agree with your point buddy
@Caiman Araújo I dont think it matters much bro abt who the Creator is coz cricket was invented by english people still Indians are better than than most of the world teams
@Caiman Araújo Each and every nation is the best in its own way I won't compare any of them with each other as I would never disrespect any country or team.
And btw I'm not from US just a big fan of a few players like Taylor Sander, Ajith Lal , Yuji Nishida , Bruno , Ivan Zaytsev , Holt , Lucas , Kurek . That's my team right there 🔥😉
@Caiman Araújo I wont say about kurek but I would definitely recommend you to watch Ajith Lal's spikes he is one of the best Indian players of volleyball

Same bro😭
Guys never give up! 💞 I will always support you😍😍
The best attack is the volleyball attack 🏐
I love bokuto...
0:26 oh my godd, that's bokutoooo
Oh good. It's porn ads, not Nishida fanboys/clueless anime fans in the comment section. That's an improvement.
@Caiman Araújo Nishida looks great. That will matter as soon as the FIVB introduces points for looking pretty. Until then, he's a third rate player at the international level.
@Caiman Araújo They destroyed Italy's second/third team in front of a home crowd. Having a good game or a run of good games doesn't make you a great team.
In any case, everybody's gushing about their qualities as a team. Germany demolished Brazil in the World Cup despite not having a lot of individually brilliant players.
The thing is, most nations with great teams have 3 or 4 opposites that are better than Nishida. I love his form, I adore his power attacks, it's just that he's not an effective player outside very narrow circumstances.
The fact is, jumping high is a bad thing in volleyball, because it wastes too much time. Alan or Wallace just have a ton more options and are infinitely more useful as blocks. Sure, it's occasionally useful in a player who's already tall, but (and I tell you that as a 1,8m middle) no amount of reading the opponent or timing compensates for another 20 cm or for the fact that your opponent can soft cover the middle and shut you down even on a fast-ish ball.
@Caiman Araújo Sorry, didn't see that there was more to your comment... Yeah, top 20-30 oppo is about where I'd put him. I'm annoyed by the hype but he jumps great and his form when hitting is thing of beauty. He'd have been a star 20 years ago.
@Caiman Araújo Yeah, I think we are in violent agreement here, although I don't see Nishida ever becoming first rate. He's too small and lacks versatility.
It's also that I started watching volleyball on RUclips a few month ago and I can't believe what the game has become. The top teams pretty much play every attack with 3-4 credible options and you have teams where everybody, including the setter, is at or above 2m and they move like 1.8-1.9m people 20 years ago while also being smart as hell. It used to be that players above 2m were just those slow moving tanks you put in the middle who were also dumb as rocks.
So yeah, I wish Nishida well and it's great if Japan evolves into a team that can consistently keep top teams on their toes. It's just frustrating to see people shit on Muserskiy in the comments when Muserskiy is actually an amazing player at what he does, just because they saw some stupid anime that has no relation to the sport of volleyball.
@Caiman Araújo Probably the advantage of being old. Doesn't matter any more how tall I am, I've missed the boat on any level of competitive play about a quarter century ago when I moved to your continent for social service. So yeah, I have no horse in that game. However, as somebody who's relatively lucky to have a vertical that's way above average for an amateur, my biology wouldn't have allowed me to jump as high as Nishida any more than it would allow me to grow as tall as Muserskiy.
Anyway, nice meeting you and thanks for helping me pass Friday afternoon.
First
These are absolutely not top plays. Most of these are routine put aways.
routine put aways my ass shut up man
He should just retired...no game
