Ayr Fire Station has now had its ARP taken off the run and replaced by a standard rescue pump. Aerial appliance cover for the whole of Ayrshire is now at Kilmarnock and Ayr will not receive another height vehicle due to cuts

Merseyside bought a new Scania CARP in 2008, it was 2 years before it went on the run due to failing the tilt test. After less than a year in service it went into the reserve fleet and was quickly sold on. Another lemon Merseyside bought was a Mercedes light pump, under powered, heavy steering and wandered all over the road, that was sold to Cheshire and became a rapid response motorway crash unit. Another one of their bright ideas was 2 Mercedes sprinter small fire units they were soon repurposed into something more useful.

But don't forget they get paid the same rate as wholetime firefighters. To many of them it is just another job. I know several that view it that way. I think the real heroes are volunteer firefighters because they get paid diddly squat.
And I've been trying to think of England's smallest city, but I can't. You're gonna have to tell me.... 👍

@@YelpBullhorn They only get paid they same rate as wholetime on jobs lasting over 1 hour 15 minutes in my Brigade . Retained get paid for additional work like training and Community Fire Safety and for when they actually turn out , but the flat retaining salary is around £6-7,000 a year . I agree with your comments regarding volunteer firefighters , although they are at the very quietest and most rural stations .
