I loved this .... gentle humour, wonderful script, marvellous, well-cast acting, entirely believable, kind, and often thought provoking, with not a little good old common sense. To top it all, Arthur Lowe, and the beautiful black Labrador, Pontius! So pleased to see it here, just wish there were more episodes.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great quote from Fr. D at the end there. “The rich especially are worthy of a priest’s consideration. They cannot take refuge in the ultimate human illusion that money is the answer to all life‘s problems.”
@firekindler It impressed me greatly when I first saw the show on PBS here in America in my younger days. But I remembered it wrong ... ~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~ The poor are better off than the rich ... Because the poor have the hope that when they have money they will be happy ... The rich, know better. ~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~ ... finally found it on RUclips so I could get the exact quote.
Introducing our priest to this series. A lot of exaggeration but that is comedy. Haven't seen anything blasphemous. Just good humor. You can imagine what good priests have to go through and there are women like this out there.
Poor Father Neil. Obviously the oysters didn't make friends with him, or maybe it's the other way about. I had to laugh though at the apple pie. Dear oh dear oh dear.
I'm really enjoying this. I'm a Dad's Army fan, but I know little of Arthur Lowe's appearances, apart for the small part as the "Titbits" reporter in Kind Hearts and Coronets.
@@jessiejames7492 He was known for being a sometimes hard to get along with actor. Stayed mostly to himself. Didn't like to learn his lines and often improvised, much to the chagrin of the directors. He had a bad heart condition and died from it, one night just before he was to go on stage for a play, and not long after the last episode of this series was filmed.
Ah the time when we could laugh at ourselves without inhabitation sure miss those relaxed times before the PC Police began telling us how to interpret, bred intolerance and hatred.
Megan A. Read the books they are even better, plus if you have seen some of the TV programs the actors personality's and Voices are in your head ,...enjoy.

Not a single mention of Simony in the first part of this episode, when clearly that was Fr. Neil's concern. Seems a bit weird. Weren't we all thinking of it, or was it just crazy me?
old five pound notes were certainly big. Not sure on ten pound notes. www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/Documents/withdrawnrefguide.pdf has a very interesting explanation of notes
It's worth about £250 in today's money. Money has been massively devalued in this country that's why wages are so low, house prices are unreachably high and everything else is too dear as well. The quality of everything has gone down in the last 50 years so we're basically forced to pay a lot more for a load of crap!

Can someone please fill me in on the punchline at 21:49? I think I missed something about the offer of Marie getting his hat and his equipment.

Mother and Son
Where did Series 2 Episode 7 go? I'm sure it was uploaded here?

Barbara Young was quite beautiful then.
Ironic that the actor playing the young priest later wrote a play that was so nastily anti-Catholic that the UK government shut it down.
Obligatory positive comment for the algorithm
l love this pleas me
