Fantastic project. Beautifully made. As a former Green Oak Timber framer and now a pc modder / builder I have never gotten round to building a wooden case. I feel inspired. A little tip for you regarding sanding for the ultimate finish. A damp cloth over the piece you want to sand, give it a minute to release the fibres and then sand. Repeat the process as many times as is required (usually ten depending on the wood) to get a very dense marble like feel and look. Oh, and Silk Wood or Beeswax to finish. 😊
I may have to hate you now, i too am a wood worker and a computer geek who builds his own systems. Now I am going to have to scratch the itch for my next build by building my own case! Great looking case!
Very cool. I too have a love for wood work and pc building. One of the hard parts is just building up that extensive collection of power tools to be able to do woodwork.
beauty. I'm Brazilian was looking for a wooden cabinet to assemble then after searching a lot I found your video, I really liked the designer of the cabinet. would have to make available the cabinet project.
Great work....for me it will be alot of hand work.....i will start soon with an own build for a custom water cooled pc....but it will take me some time...months maybe even a year....
SO much sanding. Love the jointery you used and made by hand as well. I am doing my own PC build soon, and Im a rookie wood worker and am tempted to try something like this (not as detailed) Wish me luck! Thanks for the awesome video!
Oh no you didn't just use a power tool to make dovetails I can't believe it ONLY JOKING. Wow that's one beautiful case, really like the different species wood you used. Very cool ( I just had to say it in the beginning)
This is sometime I've also been interested in doing one day. I'd love to see what the thermals look like when you do some benchmarks. Awesome video, amazing wood work. Subbed!
Ha, good luck! It was a fun build but totally worth it. I will have the completed build up sometime next month, but there is an even crazier PC build coming first.
its looks really nice i watched a lot of videos but your design is so clean and elegant you are an artist my friend >> i want to make a wooded case hopefully as good as u did .but am using hand tools so please add more details and tips and things to avoid it would be really helpful and it would be awesome if you can upload the sketchup project..i know its too much to ask but ..i really like your design ♥
Hardware Canuck has mentioned that he wud like to see case manufacturers offer more Wood Trim Options on their cases with a tempered glass side panel 😸
I am sure there are some challenges with electrical certifications with an all wood case...but yes wood is a seriously underused material in tech. Check out Peachtree Audio if you want to see some really tasteful application of wood accents.
Yes I could glue it together, learned that in kindergarten lol regret not taking woodshop in high school. , instead of wood work life, my name I would pay 200 my case now is 150.00, do you have the final video? would love to see how the cable management turned out. Please keep the videos coming you create amazing things wish I had your shop skills
Your case looks awesome. What are you going to use for things like motherboard tray and hard drive cage? I have been thinking of doing this for some time. I was thinking of using an old case to sacrifice for the drive cage and motherboard tray. What are you going to use for the front USB and sound headers?
I don't use front USB and Audio so I am just not messing up the aesthetic. You don't need to use a motherboard tray, you can just put threaded inserts in and put you risers right into the wood. I am building a tool-less wooden hard drive cage.
UPS damaged the case on the way to Siggraph :( I need to repair it and then shoot the final video. I will get it done this summer. I am so inspired by Jay, if he ever wanted to collab I would drop everything and build something bananas. Like nobodies ever seen it before, there are still a lot more rounds in the chamber.
Hey man! Love the video! I'm getting a pre built pc soon (it has been refurbished) and i'm thinking about making my own wood case with some people in my family who are woodworkers! If you could give me some tips on how to measure how big the case could be i'd be forever thankful! Thank you! 💙
Layout all of your components on a sheet of cardboard first to figure out your layout. Then build around that. Ensure that there is a logical airflow within the case plenty of intake and output to move the air past the warm components. Otherwise...it's pretty straightforward
Nope, not at all. Heat will build up in any material if you don't keep air moving through it. I just make sure to keep air flowing through it. It doesn't really affect the heat of the temperature.
I'm building my own wooden pc case too, pretty similar to a Corsair Obsidian 1000D, and I find quite hard to find a suitable template for the motherboard I/O and GPUs

Regardless of the use of sycamore this is an awesome piece and I look forward to seeing more details (how she does airflow wise [I feel like cedar may have helped some in that regard but I do not know exactly how... so maybe not, lol]).
+Tony Sloan cedar is not a hard enough wood to do proper joinery like this and it is a bit sappy. Hey, Wood Work Life! Can you bend wood and put it on the Inwin 301 so that it looks the new In win 806 wooden case? I'm trying to this at home, but I want to see how it's done first...
It is totally doable, you would make a form for your bend out of plywood that matches the profile of the case you wanted to bend to. Then I would use wood veneer and build up many layers of it moistened and glued with a water proof glue and then I would tape it down with lots of masking or painters tape to the form. You could also use clamp and clamp to the form. It would take a while to dry, 48 hrs to be safe and then it is time to sand...
WOW! Finally a pc case where Noctua Fans would actually color coordinate with. And the corsair logo cutout looks neato, i have a corsair case too! 😄🕹👾
Are you saying my case it ugly...Thanks for watching!
The Noctua fans really would look great in this beautiful case
Fantastic project. Beautifully made.

That is a similar finish you get with the finishing technique I used. The way essentially fills the grain.
I may have to hate you now, i too am a wood worker and a computer geek who builds his own systems. Now I am going to have to scratch the itch for my next build by building my own case! Great looking case!
Don't hate me cause you ain't me. Show me the system when you're done. I am building another wooden PC next month.
You have just explained my 6th form college project. I built a wooden PC case with dovetails and a marquetry side!
+Alex Pitts I hope it was as much a pain in the ass for you as it was for me :)
Do you have any pictures of how it turned out?
New computer style build+Old wood working= yolo method.
Glad you appreciated that.
Looking forward to seeing it all put together and bench-marked.
+justin garner me too! Waiting on Gigabyte to get their Aib card out.
Amazing work 😍😍😍😍
Pure FLIPPIN awesomeness 💥👊🏻💥👍🏼
This is still one of my favorite projects of all time.
Very cool. I too have a love for wood work and pc building. One of the hard parts is just building up that extensive collection of power tools to be able to do woodwork.
+Rodrigo Rodriguez do it with hand tools then. Most of the work was done with 100$ worth of tools.
Definitely something I've considered when building my next pc, thanks for showing how it can be done. I can't wait to see the component install
+iamspeare good luck man! Patience is key. And square flat panels!
Great video! Very creative.
Thanks!
Great Work!! 😁👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome, good wood work skill!!
Thanks!
This wood definitely make Clint happy. Lovely job! Shame you can't make it with a dremel.
+Merlin Athrawes I mean, you can make anything with anything with a little practice.
You're doing fantastic work.
+BetaFax meams a lot, thanks!
nice wooden case
Beautiful!!! Can not wait to see it running
Looks very nice, great work!!!!
Guessing you are waiting for the AMD 16 Core CPU???

beauty. I'm Brazilian was looking for a wooden cabinet to assemble then after searching a lot I found your video, I really liked the designer of the cabinet. would have to make available the cabinet project.
I have thought of selling the plans...I need to revisit this.
Great job, been thinking about doing PC hardware as furniture for a while, nice to see how you attacked it.
+genghisbunny lots of cool ways to do it.
This guy really, really likes the word joinery.
its a fun work to say, like "FRANCISO" try it :)
Love it Just Love it Good Job
+PaulTP12 Cora thanks! It was a lot of work. I have another PC case coming up pretty soon.
Awesome video,Keep it up!
Thanks for the Kudos, I appreciate it!
Nice unique build

THAT IS SICKKKK
very cool! I'm a carpenter that loves to build pcs. very happy I found your channel.
I'm not a computer person but that came out pretty sick
Thanks Eric, it was a labor of love! Way more hours in it than I suspected there would be!
You better not be a computer person!!
this is hobby :Pal !
what you hobby?
I was making the joke of him being a half person half computer... it's a dumb one, but I felt it was necessary lol
You can see at the computex 2017 just google and click images
All about pc
And it's more different than this man build.
This video needs tons of views!
Share it man! Would love some more views love. Thanks for watching!

good luck brother, think it all through and use paper, or CAD, or prototypes if you have the opportunity/will
It's really a good idea this is the first time I see a wooden computer case , nice Job Rick 👌🏾
+Christian Nabelsi thanks!
Beautiful case! Thanks for sharing.
Oh no you didn't just use a power tool to make dovetails I can't believe it ONLY JOKING. Wow that's one beautiful case, really like the different species wood you used. Very cool ( I just had to say it in the beginning)
+Thom spillane thanks, gotta keep me honest here :)
Damn fine looking work!
Thanks Chris, this is my favorite project so far.
Perfect man! Just perfect!
Thanks man! Thanks for checking out the video. The follow up finishing the PC has been a bit delayed due to um...VEGA...
You are not alone to be waiting for that gpu and what it has to offer so i understand! I really look forward to your complete build video!
Great job man. your work speaks volumes about who you are. nicely done!!!!!!! :)
+Elna Loots thanks so much, it was a labor of love...or at least something I am really into.
great work it will probably last a long time
It would have if UPS didn't get hold of it on the way to Axpona.
one pc to rule them all👍
+Chris R one case to hold them (wait that actually makes sense...)
Oh my, that’s beautiful 😧
Thanks!
Great job. Super inspiring. One more project added to my "I wish I can build it one day" list ;)
Thanks so much! Let me know if you try it out! I would love to see what you come up with!
great video again your my favourite youtuber
+Jim Vowden thanks man!
Wood.Work.LIFE. good luck for the future
Thanks man, I appreciate the support
looks stunning
+Badger Workshop thanks man, you should see it in person!
I will pop around
I don't know the first thing about woodwork, but that case looks great!
+AmazinArts thanks man thanks for watching.
I love it, congratulations!!!
+yKickSTyLe thanks!
Nice case, want to build something similar myself. Got some great inspiration from your video. Thanks.
Awesome brother, good luck! The renders I used in designing it are on my Patreon page (shameless plug) if you want any more details.
Nice work
+schlaznger thanks!
This is sometime I've also been interested in doing one day. I'd love to see what the thermals look like when you do some benchmarks. Awesome video, amazing wood work. Subbed!
+JedZedOne hopefully VEGA is out before too long. That's the plan anyway
+JedZedOne Also, WELCOME TO THE CHANNEL FAMILY!
Many thanks :D
That's well done case Good Job. Been thinking about building a PC case out of wood myself for some time
Keep up the good work
+Wipspeed. DIY & Tech thanks so much!
:O is that a godamn Aorus logo?? +1, +1, +1000!
Coming soon ish.
why is this satisfying?
it just is...it just is
The double O's in "Wood" should be the power and the reset button (W *O* *O* D). That'd be cool.
That is a great idea!
Good video!!
Amazing!
Thanks, there goes my summer vacation 😂
Ha, good luck! It was a fun build but totally worth it. I will have the completed build up sometime next month, but there is an even crazier PC build coming first.
I recently found your channel. Great job on the video. Love the creativity! Keep up great work
Welcome to the WWL family! I hope to see around in the comments!
This looks really nice. :D
Did you ever finish this build? I can't find the 2nd video

+bo shehab thanks so much! I think it turned out pretty good. Let me know if you have any specific questions. The project is on instructables too.
Very nice and being late to see this video I was hoping to see the completed build, but... it never got build? Can't find a final result video.
It is still coming, it is waiting on the new VEGA 64 from Gigabyte. It should be coming out in like November...soon my friend...soon.
How does it hold up? Cherry is a bold choice for a project like this. It tends to throw quite a lot.
any woods can work together as long as the TR ratio of them is the same.
It's beautiful. :-o
Hardware Canuck has mentioned that he wud like to see case manufacturers offer more Wood Trim Options on their cases with a tempered glass side panel 😸

okedoke i will check them out thx 🙂
@@WoodWorkLIFE when u say tech the wood all that ppl think of is fire ... that will never happen..
@@AliYassinToma so many comments...all PC components would catastrophically fail before we got to that point.
i wood like to leave a comment
great case !
+Super CromwellMkIV thanks for the compliment man!
Bonus 1000 points for Aorus
I’ll put those in the bank!
Yes I could glue it together, learned that in kindergarten lol regret not taking woodshop in high school. , instead of wood work life, my name I would pay 200 my case now is 150.00, do you have the final video? would love to see how the cable management turned out. Please keep me posted if you sell these thanks

im about to make a custom wooden pc case soon just have to make some schematics for it
hey mate, love this content, massive PC enthusiast, you should definitely do a glass topped desk at some point to go with this ;)
+footer scag in plans now to build a waterfall desk to go with this with a steel leg on one side using a walnut slab. Really looking forward to it!
Where's the next video? Looks god so far and a collaboration with JayzTwoCents would be a good result I think

masterpiece
Thanks so much, I put a lot of work into this project. I can't wait to build another wooden PC.
Wow that's amazing. Getting ready for minecraft in 4K?
Hey man! Love the video! I'm getting a pre built pc soon (it has been refurbished) and i'm thinking about making my own wood case with some people in my family who are woodworkers! If you could give me some tips on how to measure how big the case could be i'd be forever thankful! Thank you! 💙

isnt wood a really good insulator? It looks sweet but have you had problems with heat?
Nope, not at all. Heat will build up in any material if you don't keep air moving through it. I just make sure to keep air flowing through it. It doesn't really affect the heat of the temperature.
How did you mount the motherboard and what did you do for the front and rear I/O panels ?
Great job , looks awesome 👍
That was an awesome case... I would like to know more about the dimensions
I released the render to my Patrons to play with.
hmmm a Gigabyte Aorus RX Vega video card, i see! 🤓😍🕹👾
I am friggin' waiting...right...
@00:54 Where do people get these cool clamps from?
The internet :). It's the Kreg flipstop system
I'm building my own wooden pc case too, pretty similar to a Corsair Obsidian 1000D, and I find quite hard to find a suitable template for the motherboard I/O and GPUs
Just carefully measure your io and mobo. But it is all a standard size.
@@WoodWorkLIFE Thanks dude! I downloaded some templates but I think I will go for the "measure twice, cut once" way!
Enrico Molero WoodWorkWife and I can came up with “measure once get it right” last night
@@WoodWorkLIFE I still don't trust myself so much, I only made my own wooden desk up to now and that was a quite easy shot
make a cooler master h500m or cosmos c700m case please.... you're amazing
I’d love to
Can we get the 3d model file of that case PLS!!! It will help me a TON!!!!
Amazing build! I'm designing a desk drawer case for myself. How is the best way to fix the screws and motherboard standoffs to the wood?
I just did this, stay tuned. I am hoping to have the video out this weekend.
Would have been nice to see how you fixed the pc hardware inside. That is the hardest part to wrap my head around
+Brecht Schatteman I am doing that in part 2 of the video
Disclaimer: first wood case I've seen. I really like what you have done here, but I do wonder at the choice of sycamore. This may be from my undying hatred of the tree that arose from it doing its best to strangle me when I was chipping it while pollen and puff balls were on... but wouldn't it have been better to go with perhaps cedar? Or maybe a more native tree known for its crazy hardness: Osage Orange. That has a very distinct color and the grain can be very nice (I will say that I loved the sycamore grain along the one edge...).
Osage would have been awesome but it is very hard and would have been a PITA for this kind of joinery. Sycamore is local to Missouri and I can get a lot of it cheap. I toiled around the lumber yard for like an hour before I actually bought these boards. You could use Poplar or Oak or Walnut with similar results. But I would love to see someone else try this with a different species. I am not typically a huge fan or Sycamore because it is kind of hard to work with. But QS Sycamore is GORGEOUS. This was my first time working with cherry though, and I must say, it is not my favorite.
You could really bring out those logos with resin.
Ooooh, good idea
It looks good I will give you that, but not everyone has fancy tools like you.
Ya, working with hardwoods is an undertaking. It takes a bit of initial investment. Although most of what I did was using a hand saw and a $5 set of chisels. It comes from lots of practice more than money.
Did you do the second video ???
What wood did you use to make this project?
This was quarter sawn sycamore and cherry, finished in a shellac and wax finish.
This is made of QS Sycamore and QS Cherry.
hi u have a drawing if these panels with sizes and stuff.. it looks soooo good
Thanks Shaun, I uploaded the renders on my Patreon page. Sorry, I just don't feel comfortable sharing my design work for free.
I may have missed this info from the video, but what did you base your design on as far as fitting the components inside??
I used a 1:1 ATX mobo cutout, and I built a bunch of templates.
Looks amazing! Also planing to build my own one! But witch meassurements have you used for this build?
I am adding them soon for my Patreon supporters, I might sell plans at some point.
i have a question can you make this case with basic tools or do you need like a cnc router for it to fit
+Alwin Molenaar I did it with all hand tools. No cnc involved.
subscribed, now I want to see the thermals :) and benchmarks. I just built one pc case out of wood too, but I didn't paint it yet so it doesn't look nearly as cool as yours.
The thermals we're great before I shipped it to siggraph. 60s on the couch and you under load. Going to redo it soon :)
A couple a months ?? It's been over a year !!
Ok Ok, after these next projects I will get after it. I have a better camera now too, so it should be nice.
I was going to comment the same. Please post the actual build video.
Great case BTW.
Like it!
Thanks!
LMAO Gave the vid a thumbs up for the intro!
Thanks so much! Another PC build is coming up pretty soon. So stay tuned, this one is going to be crazy!
where's the sequel video where you put the components into the case and do the benchmarks?
Alright alright...I am working on it.
👍
Then while I await the arrival of part 2 I shall Consume some of your other videos (the foundry vid was really cool!).
