The best bit of advice I’ve heard from any golf instructor, “Swing like you, not nobody else!” Mike’s is the only golf channel I have subscribed to as he describes everything about the golf swing in such a simple, straightforward way. Awesome, thanks Mike 👏🏻

I did the same. Only watch Malaska videos and that video of year 2000 Butch Harmon/Tiger. It's similar.
Malaska changed everything on my game. I finally learned how to play golf.
      And hit it solid.

    Hi Mike,
Always a treat and a pleasure to see your Videos.
Just got back to play this Game once again after a few yrs of absence due to Health complication.
All is well now and commited this yr to enjoy this beautiful sport was again. I came across your Teaching videos and found your instructions to be by far the most rewarding and simplest way to communicate the Golf Swing Fundamentals.
So far I had 3 golf range sessions and 2 Golf games, the first one was very ordinary and the 2nd one was quite impressive thanks to your instructions.
I always played sports in my younger yrs and tennis was one of them which I played competitive for a while. Once I took Golf I was hooked for Life, played competitive for a few yrs and reached a 14 Hdc. My aim this yr is to be a better golfer and played the Game as it should.
I always struggle with my Driver but in one of your videos (Driver/Alighnment) I noticed an upright stick and a "T" alighnment in your stance which was a bit CLOSE to the target line and not squareso I took noticed and implemented this on my next work out. I always struggle consistently hitting this club as I coudnt connect it properly, changing this set up I am now able to connect (Finally) square on and straight with a lovely trajectory. Boom!!!
There is a lot more than hitting balls but with your expertise and knowledge will make me take this game to the next level to Become a Complete Player.
    Many Thanks once Again.

Golf is the only sport that I have (recently) tried to learn where it seems that everyone tells you that you have to do every specific little thing a specific way... or watch this person because that is what you should be doing. It became so robotic for me and I seemed to get worse and worse. This year is really my first year actually going out and playing and I am doing it all my way and learning it my way... while keeping your key points in mind lol.. and I've already seen myself improve!

Hi there! I just read your comment. I struggled like you and i know the feeling. See if this helps you out. (I learned watching all Malaska vid and that Butch Harmon/Tiger video from year2000)
At beginning of takeaway (push back right hip), I put little force on inside left foot and femur area(for stability). When I'm abt to complete backswing, as my upperbody is inclined a bit to the right, i bend over a bit towards the ball at the same time my left hip starts to push back movement (straight line forces).
Then, left hip is out of the way and I can do Malaska's 👉 "hands down club head out concept" creating tremendous amount of club head speed.
I feel my hands and grip going in between my legs at downswing. (Of course is a feeling)
I don't feel turning hips at any point. Because "turning" is an effect and not the cause. Just feel straight line forces of push back and push back of the hips.
Obs: Do not work on position picture only, work on whole movement with forces applied.
Im hitting straight 45° starting flying high balls like a pro. 150yds Pw.
1 year ago i was flipping, moving up at the ball and shanking...yes, classic mistakes.
So Malaska video works and is the best out there.
      Rgds
      Vic

I’m a long time tour tempo loyalist. I have found that you do have to find “your tempo.” In general, the best players have between 2.6/1 and 3/1 from everything I have read. I tried playing at 21/7 but found that I actually hit the ball better at 27/9 which is a bit slower. The point of TT is that it tries to teach tempo which is rarely taught if ever. If you want an easy way to measure, and you have an iPhone, download their free frame counter app and see what your tempo is. No I don’t work for them or have any relationship with them other than have read the books and it has worked for me. The Novosel’s are great people and have built something that works, for most.

I checked my putter tempo and it’s a pretty quick 1-2. I went to the range and kept the same tempo for the rest of the bag. It’s working well so far. Much more consistent contact which is what I’m looking for. Now I will take it to the course for the real test.

I've played a couple of times now. My ball striking has improved, especially with wedges. My wedges are dead on target but actually going a little long compared to before. I made a huge sirloin steak divot with my 56 wedge in bermuda fairway, never done that before. Driver has improved also.
I need to work hard on short game now. I also need to work on concentration on the tee to avoid errant shots.

I metronomed the practice range at the BMW last year....

but the amazing thing was that held for the entire bag, from wedges to driver....(full shots)

Totally agree. Challenge is controlling that tempo for all shots throughout the round. Believe grip pressure is related to tempo and sqaring the clubface at impact.

I have always swung at what felt to me as 2:1. If I tried to swing at 3:1 or 4:1, I would feel like I was going to "fall off the Earth". I went through a phase in my late 20's when I ripped in up and down in what felt like 1.5:1. (I was trying to swing like Tom Watson...) It worked surprising well, but it was too exhausting to be consistent.

Hi Mike - always enjoy and get a lot out of your content. Sports loves averages, but as a statistician I can tell you the real insight comes from studying variability and its causes. The mean has its place of course (the shots gained people are getting a lot of mileage out of comparing players to means at the moment), but I think you are dead-on to caution people about trying to conform to a mean value. And on top of that, the mean get pulled toward extreme values so it can have the potential to be quite skewed in some cases.

  • @Eric-zk2hu
    @Eric-zk2hu 4 года назад +1

Yes, another site always says the entire swing takes about 1 second, so if your backswing takes 3/4ths of a second then your downswing should take 1/4th of a second?? I always thought thats awfully rushed for a high handicapper. Maybe a tour pro who has played at a high level for years can get in that groove, but if the ball doesn't move and you don't hit a ball with your backswing then why is the optimal tempo so fast for all handicap levels? I agree with your take on this

  • @jeffstrack1143
    @jeffstrack1143 2 года назад

To try swinging faster which is what it seems TourTempo is all about isn’t a bad thing. IMHO, it’s worth trying if u have a good swing until u reach a point where you’re spraying the ball everywhere then I’d slow it down. That said, if you have bad mechanics you might be hitting the same bad shots but just faster. You could also wind up hurting yourself. I totally gree with Mike Malaska to play your swing.

  • @johnfischer7614

I have recently finished all 3 Tour Tempo books and what Mike says here is not a fair representation of what the Tour Tempo theory is about. The Tour Tempo books specifically address the concept that everyone has their own intrinsic tempo, and why that can hold people back from playing their best golf.
Also, at 6:21 in this video, you see Mike's driver swing, and it's 27 frames backswing and 9 frames downswing, which is exactly the 3:1 ratio Tour Tempo espouses.

  • @icebag2

Rhythm and tempo come from music. Tempo, as Mike says, is the overall pace of the music or golf swing. Rhythm is the relative duration of the component parts of the piece of music (note values, rests) or the golf swing (backswing to forward swing).

That’s bullshit. We DO NOT have a DNA for tempo! To claim that tempo is built into my genetic material is absolutely false. Their scientific data shows, unequivocally, that the “average” tour pro swings at a 3 to 1 tempo. The “average” amateur is somewhere between 5 and 7 to 1! That is measured. That is called data. They are saying, that if you try to be more like them, you will improve. They are not wrong. The “average” amateur hasn’t improved their scores in over 50 years. Even with Mike’s guidance. No one…no one has taught tempo. Until now. I picked up 25 yards with driver. Went from. 4 to a +1…I’m really tired of these “teachers” who claim to be authorities on a subject. When in reality, they are ego driven has beens, trying to tell you how good they were. While they take your money.

I would be skeptical of any application that describes ratios as tempo. Tempo is basically speed. Ratios would be better described as rhythm.
