Congrats on getting in there with the other big dog auto journalists with this release. I love your analogies and your practical down to earth, we ain't all rich perspectives. This wagon is going to sell well IMO. It will cut into Outback sales due to similar size and the fact that it has a hybrid drivetrain which many of we Subie owners have been longing for.
I really appreciate your driver experience perceptions, especially the explanation of the eCVT. You are the first reviewer I've seen to clarify that point.
It is a wagon and history tells us wagon does not sell as well as SUV. The Signia is a lifted Camry wagon and it also reassembles the old wagon based Venza
For me, a 3 time Outback owner (currently driving a 22 OB Touring), this car has potential. Form factor is very similar to the OB and the hybrid powertrain is the icing on the cake. Along with the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, this may be a serious contender for my next car. That said, I'd prefer some of the safety & convenience factors that only come with Ltd, but when I did a build price, a similarly equipped OB & SF were about $9K less. Not sure the Crown Signia is worth that premium to me.
Valid! Off of my first impressions, I think it could justify the cost if you would also appreciate the extra space, but if you don’t mind the size, I do think the Outback will easily appeal to more folks. This is more of a niche wagon, but not as niche as the Crown sedan…
Me and my girlfriend would rather upgrade to the 2024 Limited Venza from the 2022 Venza XLE than, the Toyota Crown because we think it looks better and really feels like a SUV.
I did that a few months ago, moving from the '21 to the '24, both as limited. The '24 lim maintains the slightly higher seating position and mileage and has two things the Signia does NOT have: A Star Gaze roof (super neat to have) and powered steering positioning. Plus, the '24 has a much-improved layout for the dash controls, especially for the a/c, when compared to the '21. And in the limited I have HUD and LED instrument panel. I absolutely loved my '21... but the '24 is definitely a step up. Since you drive the '22, you know how much better the mileage can be when compared to the EPA's numbers. As with the '21, I'm seeing an average of 43 mpg in the '24.
Good honest general driving review. I would however have liked more detailed information and critique on all aspects of its features. I do understand that you likely only had time for the things that you covered.
The perfect American wagon would be 210 inches long. Moreover, the greenhouse should be as wide as the body too. I guess I'm waiting for the GRand Crown Signia. Bonus points if you get the double nuance. Gazoo!
I was looking for a wagon but was disappointed by the market and settled for a sedan. Didn't like the crown sedan and chose an ES (yet to purchase) but might need to give this a second thought
While it would be the most moronic financial move for Toyota, if they built a GR variant with an Inline 6 (maybe derived from the 1.6L i3), I’d actually forget about buying a house and get one of those instead.
7.1 s 0-60 would be plenty fast but allegedly its 8 sec according to preliminary tests. It appears noisier under full throttle than camry. Thats not good. 2700 lb towing is quite good for hev. I have almost 18 feet long aluminium boat with 115 hp and it weighs only 2100 lb with trailer and fuel.
Too bad they’re so expensive (10k too much??). They will have a hard time selling these for sure. At this price, it will even compete with some other Toyota models!!
One thing I left out, Toyota actually doesn’t plan on selling many. They said they were only planning to make 14k for the remainder of the year. I think this exists to fill a small niche of people that want a reliable, cheap to run toyota suv with the ride quality and comfort of a Lexus. Personally, Id still like to see a more affordable variant, but you do get a lot for your money!
Probably not soon, I'd like to but getting access to BMW and Mini has proven difficult. Once the channel hits 100k, I should be able to have a little more leverage on getting more brands!
The Toyota Crown is not the replacement for the Toyota Venza because the Venza is a Luxury SUV and the Crown is a Luxury Sports Wagon. It might be the replacement but it actually is not because as soon as I sell my Toyota Venza in a couple of years I will be looking at the Lexus RX 350 because that is the true replacement for the Toyota Venza. The Crown is for people that like a Subaru Outback or one of the other Suburu’s The Crown is more of a Luxury Sports Wagon.!!
I understand the sunroof doesn’t open. I hated the Stargaze roof in my Venza hybrid. My wife stays likes to stay in the car and play with her phone. I want to crack the sunroof open for some air. Cracking windows open are not as safe. Great looking front. Clearance is too low. Just a station wagon. I traded the Venza on a gas turbo Highlander with a sunroof that opens.
Was hoping this would replace my Volvo 850 wagon, but the CVT is a deal breaker for me. Reliability concerns aside, I just don't like the way they drive/feel. Since auto makers don't make base versions of anything, the price point for me, even at its starting point is still too high. A base version at 30-35K might make me consider it.
As I said in this video, an e-cvt is not in any way, shape, or form, similar to a CVT mechanically! Do some research on them when you have a minute, they’re pretty neat🤓 they also feel better off the line than a regular cvt because of the planetary gearset, though it behaves similarly from a roll. I do understand wanting a cheaper car but you get what you pay for. This rides like a lexus and it’s quiet like a lexus! I too would want a base LE at 40k maybe but if they made this to fit a 30k-35k budget, it’d probably just be a rav4🥴
@@Realistick I know there is a difference between both mechanically I just don't like the driving experience. I drove a RAV4 with the e cvt and I didn't like it.
Toyota isn’t concerned about driver engagement because the demographic Is your parents age. I like this car but I’m also in the demographic at 55 yo. I’d consider this for my next car even though I’m currently driving an Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
Honestly, it's such a nice cruiser that I'd want one if I had the space and means to buy it without selling my GR Corolla. Maybe make the move when the warranty is up on the Stelvio!
New look, real leather seat? Seriously? Toyota removed so much from Venza, auto rain sensor, electric steering control, electric frost pano roof and Signia is less ground clearance, less fuel efficiency, heavier and slower than Venza 0-60. Toyota added safety sensor like one in Lexus face recognition sensor which most of people turn off and not using due to unnecessary annoying beep when computer see that you are not paying attention on the driving… is that why you increase 12k???
Driving the Venza, you’re paying more for the size, far improved seating and better ergonomics along with the reduced road noise. I think the Venza was a better value and Im not a fan of the shrinkflation (I’ll go more into those details in the full review) but the Crown Signia is a much nicer cruiser, make no mistake.
Hmm I wonder what your favorite Toyota hater love is going to say? 😉 Let’s see: It’s not very attractive, it’s way overpriced, the interior isn’t all that nice, it lacks features, it’s very slow, not that good to drive The passport Santa Fe stomp on this all day long. It’s another DOA product from Toyota as usual
😂You’re certainly the hater to beat at the moment! Sure, it’s not raising anyone’s heartbeat and style is subjective, but I’m a fan overall. It’s a comfortable, quiet cruiser with a huge cargo area, great efficiency with enough power for a-b transportation (even at high elevation) and a very well proven powertrain at this point. Personally, I wish they just committed and gave it Lexus quality on the interior. I’ll drive the Santa Fe and see if it can match this.
@@Realistick if you want quiet rides with a huge cargo area but also a Lexus quality interior there’s the Santa Fe or cx70 or grand Cherokee. All three of them beat the clown signia
Congrats on getting enough viewers for Toyota to provide you with the Crown Signia, even if it was a group test. Hope your channel continues to grow!
Yesssss I’m so glad to see you here 🙌👏
I think Toyota knocked out of the park with the exterior styling, especially the front end. 👍

Not having an LE trim is a huge bummer. Not everyone needs all the bells and whistles.
Those people can get a Rav4. This the car for people who want the bells and whistles.
Thoughtful and informative review that didn't ask for half-an-hour of my time. Great work as always.
Love a good wagon. I’d take it up to the vinyl graphics shop, have them put a wood looking wrap down each side and call it a day.
Realest review out of all other reviewers, keep it up, Mazda might be better.
Which mazda?
I like it and it will tow a small camper. Another excellent video, Tyler.

first time on your channel, appreciate the cinematography of this video, it makes it all the better!
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing this station wagon here I see it as its known
Damn you hit nail on the head with the issue with wagons in the US at 8:50
this is my ideal car I love everything it stands for. I agree with the design criticism even some of the Lexus portfolio looks on the cheaper side.

Lexus needs premium gas, higher insurance, and much higher routine service cost.
Me and my girlfriend would rather upgrade to the 2024 Limited Venza from the 2022 Venza XLE than, the Toyota Crown because we think it looks better and really feels like a SUV.

A foot longer, and it might have its own niche as a full-size station wagon.
That chocolate interior is SWEET🔥

It might be boring. But I'd bet it's rock-solid reliable.

Rear windows are not tinted because it is classified as a car 😮? Nice review!
Yes. As a station wagon.
Do the roof rails have fixes points?
Toyota should use the crown emblem.

How does it do when compared with outback wilderness?

"...on the nightmarish roads where I'm from." So, you are from Serbia? Pozdrav!
I think those might qualify as life altering
I love it except the sun roof. It doesn't open. Competition roofs open.
Just needs to be lowered from 6.7" to 5.2", and stuff in whatever iMax powertrain can fit in the engine bay....

I don't wañt an suv or wagon😢 & you don't get the 340 max.
Why don’t these car “reviewers” turn the AC on full blast to see how hard the air blows? I live in FL and this is a necessity.

It’s not noisier than the old camry, much quieter at cruising speeds! I’ll test one when I can but I do feel like 7.1 was advantageous.

It'll be nice to have a wagon without a boxer motor. Move on from that Subaru.
Toyota really should've brought over the gorgeous Crown Sport instead. I want my Toyota Purosangue danggit
Maybe if the Crown models here gain some more traction, they'll bring it over too.
Luxury? not really but a nicer Toyota. For a Luxury Car they are some parts missing.
