nothing ive seen in rwby has ever made me feel the weight of ozma's lifetimes as much as this animatic, the burden he must feel having to fight someone who he still loves and the despair at everything he's lost and will probably lose again. you can feel him when he says forgive me just seeing everyone he feels he failed, I think a lot of them would if they saw what he had lived like because they would know he was doing his best with limited information fighting a monster but he doesn't feel he deserves the forgiveness himself, he sees himself as just as bad as salem despite everything he's done
HOLY FUCK, that transition from the tear to the bullet on "when does a man become a monster" is complete geinius. Cause that moment is when ironwood lost the last semblence of humanity the had left

Group 2 - Summer Rose and the Children of Salem (fitting putting a mother with children), Amber, Pyrrha, Penny.
@@longingsoul1 wasn't much reason to show a minor team getting killed on screen. the most we got was one of them being carried off by a nevermore in the background while Blake and Weiss are running through the chaos of the fairgrounds. we didn't get confermation of their fate until the second CFVY book, Before The Dawn, when the lone survior Nolan (the guy who tried to use a cattle prod on Nora) is with at a meeting of the "Beacon Brigade" (which is basically a meeting of students who survived that night and have ended up in Vacuo).
this is absolutely perfect in shedding ozma/ozpin's struggles while also shedding light that while the past reincarnations were already grown men when ozma's soul appeared and merged with theirs, oscar is still a teenager. if this is the weight of all the lives ozma has carried, just how much heavier is it for someone who's barely grown?
Okay this may be the best animatic I’ve ever seen for rwby. I think you perfectly captured the very essence of Ozma. How he struggles to protect the remnants of the world he once knew from the woman he loves the most. Keep up the great work!
oh boy, I really do like animatics that completely re-contextualize the meaning of a song. they are great. Odysseus: is singing about his guilt about the many warcrimes he has, and is about to commit. The Ozzes: are singing to his/their new self, lamenting how he is about to get saddled with multiple lifetimes of painful memories, regrets, and bloodshed. "close your eyes and spare yourself the view" Don't look at the memories don't delve to deep, all you will find there is pain. "how could i hurt you" you are so much like me, now we are the same, and my mere presence is will hurt you, who is my new self. "I'm just a man" takes a completely different meaning here. Both are admissions of imperfection.
Personally I don't think they succeeded at making him a bad or morally gray. All his actions were reasonable and at worst too passive. Like turning Qrow and raven to birds? They can do it at will and it's a helpful skill which I highly doubt was forced on them. Keeping secrets? Yes that hurts, but he's lived for 1000s of years what could they possibly say that he hasn't heard and seen opposite. Hazels sister? She was an adult most likely like all except 1 (ruby) beacon students are. She knew the dangers. And I understand his anger but it stops dead at him siding with the one who creates monsters than the one who helps teach people to defend against them. I do pity Oz because he is hated for something the writing doesn't portray properly. He had his whole life told for him. He had to witness the loss of the world, his wife, his kids, and his hope all over again. The only thing you can try to convince me was not that great was not telling them Salem can't be killed. But I can still understand his reasoning. He didn't want them to lose hope. That was his fear and it was confirmed right after Jinns tale was done. Don't get me wrong. I'm not just an Oz stan who thinks he's perfect and can't handle if he did do wrong. I love this animation because it portrays him in a way the writers wanted to or could have. It's interesting to note a man who unwillingly because a god is still rooting for humanity. He's seen all the filthy but yet he hasn't done anything morally gray? Ok I'm done ranting lol

It's not about not telling secrets, is about giving them false hope, Ozpin's writing is filled with constant contradictions - he preaches about unity / yet he keeps his own group at arm's lenght, he talks about doing more mistakes than any mortal yet he keeps doing such said mistakes in his reincarnation.

I always thought that the Epic songs were a perfect fit for Rwby but I never thought this one would fit Oz and the rest of the incarnations so well! Because it’s what I’ve always said when it came to Ozpin, he is just a man. A man who’s made a lot of mistakes but is still a good person underneath those mistakes. Ozpin is a character they will never be able to make me hate. Sure he makes mistakes, but who doesn't? he saw the potential in team RWBY and he hoped they wouldn't have to be his sword, but he still sharpened them nonetheless. and everything he has done has been to protect more people then he unintentionally damns to death in his never ending war. a war he desperately wants to end.
The more I listen the more I realize that EPIC’s songs fit pretty well with the events in RWBY,especially with what happened with Ruby in volume 9 Some examples would be Monster,Underworld,and Odysseus’s breakdown at the end of Love in Paradise. Some others would be Open Arms for Ruby and Penny or Legendary for Volume 1 Ruby

Oz at this point is pretty much a mass of scar tissue shambling around in approximately human form, and this captures it perfectly.
That is the saddest yet accurate way to describe his situation

this fits perfectly with Oz and his pains... it's also kind of somber when you think by "home" he's referring to the afterlife
