Love this game... that I'll very likely will get a physical copy too. And have you seen the merchandise, there is a rot plushie!
The game is only short if you rush through it. It took me 33 hours to do and find everything. And it's not like i took my time throughout the whole game.
on story mode yes way to easy felt like a 4 year old could play it but on spirt guide and up the damage that you take is unreal taro fight for example in phase 2 the lunge grab can pretty much one shot you not only the lantern when lit up don't always stun him i got lucky and dodged his grab was able to stun him to get the killing blow on spirt guide difficulty but i'm also disabled on my whole right side so using the arrows to do the stun was rough but felt rewarding when i did it
Definitely a very good game. The thunder and lightning in the woods fairly early in the game made me pause and take it in.
This game reminds me why 3rd person linear action adventure games are my favorite type of game. I don't need every game to be so big that the content fatigues me
Really miss these kind of games wherein the devs just come up with a pretty unique concept and see how it goes. Absolutely enjoying the game so far, it's a great change of pace.

@@journeyvids9737 I played it but like you said it wasn’t executed well unlike Kena. Open world was also very empty and combat doesn’t have the impact that it should, it’s unfortunate but i do credit the devs for giving it a shot at least
This could be a good trend for Sony to publish small games in AAA quality for great potential and if it gets positive feedback, they put real AAA money on the sequel!
Bought the deluxe edition to support the studio, haven’t had a chance to play it yet but I will this weekend. Looking forward to it.

So weird that games get criticized these days for being the length of a RE game-or Metal Gear Solid, or Devil May Cry, or Shadow of the Colossus... etc.
Some of the best games EVER are 8-12 hours, nothing wrong with that.
I cried playing this game just few minutes was enough for me to cry...
And I cried in life just a few times, that much this game touched me...
The art style is so beautiful and subtle and warm to look at...
I played over hundred video games in past and almost none had this feeling...
Of almost home, almost as if I want to live in this world with lover...
Almost as if I know Kena in personal...
As if I'm part of her, part of that world, part of her story...
Gameplay is simple and it's not about gameplay, this game is journey from what I played and saw in videos...
A journey of spirit guide to rediscover her soul and help others do this too...
A journey to heal her homeland and in that journey find new friends...
So in that concept her personality is not cold or such, she's to be honest perfect the way she is...
She speaks little, because she speaks not only with words, but her feelings towards root, world, and her companions...
She speaks not with body, more like her soul as real spirit guide should do...
And her language is so beautiful that I cried as I written above...
She touched me so deep that I was sad when enemy hit her and real angry on them, or when she was happy I cried of her happiness...
This game so far is one of best I played this year or by far in my gaming life...
Which I played well 130 games or more...And this goes to like top 10, just I don't like one thing...
However even this makes sense, I don't like jumping how she jumps and suddenly drops to ground...
I would want her jump more of force, even if she is spirit guide, speaks trough subtle soul touch...
Even if she is so soft as feathers and so gentle as butterfly I would loved to see her more agile in jumping animations...
Other than that so far real good...
Oh the soundtrack is, at first area where you walk out of cave...
And that music kicks in, damit I walked forwards stairs and back for a few minutes just to listen it...
It touched me so deep and music touched me this deep like 10 times in life, but I listen music each day for a few hours at least...
That good is soundtrack, animals of root is fun and charming and fits so perfect to Keena character, she's like created for them...
And they for her...
As this world is reflection of her personality and you could think that red aura is her maybe fears and weaknesses...
And as she purifies land she rediscovers herself more deeply and finds new inner and physical strength of her...
She rediscovers what it is like to be spirit guide and learns to touch spirits more deeply with subtle touch...
This game really gave me some ori and the will of the wisps vibes in a storytelling sense.

This game looks absolutely gorgeous. Currently playing it right now and my friend was watching me play it last night through screen share and we were both blown away by how great the game looked especially the cutscenes. Felt like we were watching a high budget Disney movie. ALSO THE MUSIC IS TOP TIER.

For me, its everything but i love Kena's back jump.
I was super worried about this one because we didn't hear anything so close to release but after reviews started coming out I bought it and I've loved it game has real franchise energy if Sony has sense they'll be putting them on the next one already
I'm a couple of hours in and absolutely loving it. It reminds me a little bit of the Overlord games though simplified and without the dark humour.
Glad you talked about game length. I rarely finish games as I’m busy, however, I prefer longer games even if they’re padded cause I love revisiting games I haven’t finished. I never touch a game after I finish - and we all want our moneys worth.. and if you enjoy a particular game - wouldn’t you want it to last as long as possible? I agree respect everyone’s different.
Depends on the game. 8-12 hours is a normal game length for single player games. Some of my favorite games are around that length.
Examples:
Devil May Cry, God of War, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted-all in the 8-12 hour range.
I been really enjoying this game ,not finished it yet but it's awesome.
Indies studios and several small studios are keeping the single player experience alive. Great video Jake, peace.
I didn't know much about it.. so I got the deluxe edition, and I have to say in my honest opinion. This game has one of the best story's and a good difficulty to it (played on medium) and I loved that you do use all of your abilities. It had a fantastic story and I loved the fights the further you progressed. And I couldn't get over the animation and how good it was. Felt like miana mixed with game elements if that makes sense. Definitely one of the best I've played in a very long time. Also it came out feeling pretty developed and not half assed or buggy at all and that's so respectable especially with the quality of it all.
Hands down my favourite release this year

After +35 hrs, 96 rots & all the hats I finish the game, an amazing experience, I knew this was gonna be something special when saw it on that ps5 reveal, surprise how combat come to be so challenging and fun, love getting lost in the world, the music so chill, really want more of this solid candidate for GOTY

Been waiting so long to play this game haha, absolutely love it - though I was surprised at how short it was, I’m excited to restart. Only just got the game in the last few days, there’s a sale on the PSN, though - in hindsight - I wish I’d bought it before a sale, or at normal price, because of the whole studio/first-time game/indie. Oh well, would definitely say it was worth the year+ wait, and those Rot creatures are just so damn adorable! 🤩 😂

Thanks for recommending immortals fenyx rising. I put in 100 hours into the game, finally got the platinum I'm just confused as to if I've missed epic quests because I have like 5 or 6 armour pieces missing but bruh the enjoyment this game gave me was next tier I haven't had this much fun in a long time.

I preordered the standard edition and after an hour I upgraded to digital deluxe just to support the devs. This game is really really good! It’s a little basic but it’s honestly refreshing. If the length is a problem, turning up the difficulty helped with that. Some of these bosses are no joke.
I would love to play this game! But right now I have so many different games to play that I am not sure that I have time.

When you said short concise games that don’t overstay their welcome I thought you meant games like What remains of Edith Finch. But then you said Hellblade which felt way too long. And A Plague Tale, which I ended up giving up on because I got bored 5 or so hours in.
Really good game wish there was side quests and more about her back story but that could be a for a sequel combat is a little stiff animations act weird and some of the boss fights are ehh but overall I think it's solid for its price point
I'm gonna wait til I get a ps5. I think it looks great but everytime I see her double jump she seems to stop all forward momentum and it makes me uncomfortable lol

This is the most beautiful game I've played so far on PS5. Absolutely gorgeous, with a great story and satisfying gameplay. I really hope there's a sequel. This game reminds me why Playstation is my favorite console. Sony just gets it.
This looks like the kind of game I miss. Today, everything seems like big AAA or weird little indies. Shit, now I want a PS5. They’re not as hard to get as people say, are they??

To be honest, this is the perfect girlfriend/wife/non major gamer game. I got it downloaded and ready to go when she has time and energy this week. Happy it reviewed well and can't wait to watch her play it cause the visuals look freakin amazing. Her main game all time is probably Breath of the Wild so this should fit right in, but be even more digestible. I've been tempted to fire it up myself, but am gonna wait to be impressed together 😅
PS Anyone else have those moments with a sibling where you are both telling each other to "just play something" cause both of you only feel like watching lol

Well, I usually prefer the serious "Aloy" type of female bad-assery or smart mouth 👄Bayonetta👄 who has the wit, mannerisms and disposition of a female Spider-Man. Thus this cutesy Pixar'ish type of game is a little outside of my usual wheelhouse so it fell off my radar 📡. However, you seem passionate about it and I trust you, Jake. I don't know why, BUT i do! So I'll pencil 📝 back on my list of lookie-loos. Okay? Deal! 🔙

The game is good if we consider releases like Cyberpunk. But if you look at the game for what it is, basically it is a short indie game with mediocre assets. It looks beautiful not because of the assets (just get closer to rocks and trees and you will see that they are drawn and very simplistic ), but because these people know what artistic touch means. The whole game is gorgeous because of the art direction, not because of the quality of the meshes or the super high res textures. So kudos to them for making a great indie game
The combat though is atrocious... the barrier thing to parry is almost always off; to the point where you just try to do a perfect parry and just dodge. There is a visible delay in the animations; and that is not an issue with my tv, since I play on a monitor; but it is a mere issue with animations syncing. It can be fixed probably, but most likely nobody will care.
Does jake ever not like a game ?
most recently I wasn't the biggest fan of The Ascent and Destruction All Stars really disappointed me

I like Jake's critics; as always takes into account the minor aspects, for example I saw a review from other big companies and this game is an indie, small project that resulted in a great game, but they reviewed 8 or 7 comparing it with AAA game. I mean not even the best of the best started being the best (except Michael Jordan). Thanks Jake and greetings from Costa Rica.
Dude I noticed one of my rots laying/resting on his back on top of a Little Rock so I panned the camera behind me as I walked forward and watched to see what happened and he sat up and as I got further away with the others he hopped up and ran to catch up with us it was an amazing little detail.
To me this game gives me Uncharted 1 vibes. It has great graphics, likeable characters and a decent story. Kinda clunky movement and combat. But HUGE potential and definitely could have an Uncharted 2 type sequel
I have it downloaded and ready to play. I have yet been able to dive into it. Will be checking it out this weekend. Game on gamers!

this was the first game in a while that I had no doubts about and the lower price point certainly made it less of a risk.
tried not to get my hopes up too much but I'd say my expectations were met with a few nice surprises on the way.
one or two small indications of a smaller development team but overall I'm impressed.

Ngl, im in my first 2hrs and a half, i just love exploring a bit, the music is actually pretty good, for embers first game its actually pretty good, i love the cutscenes, there so movielike, but im trynna figure out if i want smooth 60fps or 30fps but native 4k which looks amazing, this is honestly one of my favourite games of the year so far.
What system are you on?
@@d_shuffles ps5, theres 2 options, but native 4k looks so nice, ive got a 55inch 4k tv so been tryin to test it out, 30fps is ok, i havent had any real issue so far but theres 60fps upscaled which i dont know the difference apart from the smoothness in the frame rate

It does 60 fps at upcaled 4k, and i would say thats the best option. I personally cant play 30 fps anymore but its a personal preference

My girlfriend and I have been playing and it’s been an amazing experience. The animations, music and general aesthetics are absolutely stunning and once we finish it I have every intention of playing it again.
I understand the idea of keeping the screen free of HUD clutter but I would’ve liked to have a way to set a waypoint so I know what direction I should be headed rather than having to open the map so often to get my bearings.
That little critter better be wearing Tims with its Yankee fitted.

Ik you feel you have to explain it's a short game but let's be honest if the big companies didn't toxically bloat their games then we wouldn't have to stand up for a $40 game with 9 hours. Ryse: Son of Rome was $40 6 1/2 hour game I think 9 hours is perfect and the price is gold or more than perfect. EDIT : With digging, I found the game(Ryse) was more than $40
This was exactly what I wanted. I haven't finished yet (I'm a dad to young kids with very little gaming time), so I appreciate a shorter game that allows me to finish the whole thing in the limited time I have (finishing some of the games I wish I could would take me over a year... and I honestly lose interest relatively quickly if I feel like I'm not progressing through it). So much fun. And brilliant, fantastic voice acting!
It's a game if pixar would direct it the music is traditional Balinese and it is definitely Zeldaesque also how beautiful is Kena It's definitely my Game of the Year. And the Story definitely has a Avatar the Last Airbender feel.
It costs usually over $30 for 2 people to see a 2hr movie in NY, so for me $40 for a 9hr game is fine, especially if the experience is good.

Hellblade’s combat feel was some of my favorite of all time. Felt so heavy and tense.

I got the platinum at release but you and Jake are making me wanna replay it for the third time!
The game length was perfect for the story and content.
I Was Waiting for this Game since they announced it last year, I bought on day one, I Work so I dont have too much time for a super long game, so its perfect and IGot surprised at some point, it continues the gameplay , I was like YAY!!! The more you progress, The More intense and MindBlow it gets. 10/10
I was a tad sceptical about this game before it released, but your Before You Buy video convinced me... and I'm glad it did. It looks amazing and is just a lot of fun. I agree that it's nice to have a shorter game to play for a change too.
I did finally get a chance to play it, and wow this has been an experience so far. Kena is everything I wanted it to be, I'm almost done with the story and plan to explore the world some more before I finish it
