I've read _Vindication of the Rights of Woman_ several times and cherished it for years. Even as I've turned away from feminism I still love Mary Wollstonecraft. It's heartening to hear such a reminder of who she really was and what she really advocated for: virtue, reason, duty.
This is good because it's a more fully fleshed out version of the cultural genesis of some things LP brings up a lot, like women pressured to emulate male behavior, and the reduced emphasis on basic male restraint.

Wussup Granny, gotta say, Louise doesn't agree with you on this, and I agree with her. I don't always agree with her, but this is one of the few dubious practices she doesn't want a government megalith to eradicate.

As I stated it is their attitude to abortion, among other things,that makes feminism unpalatable in other countries. 92% of British men and women do Not identify as feminists. I would say my country is similar. As may have been said in this program, I've heard it recently, the biggest demographic against abortion are mothers, women.

I'm only a third of the way in, but... am I understanding correctly that modern feminism is a total subversion of what Wollstonecraft advocated for? A complete 180, with its focus on absolving women of responsibility, regard of all kinds of virtue as archaic, stripping relations between men and women into simple power play, its odd, almost aspirational take on abortion.

This was an amazing podcast. In my beginning of my thinking of what it might be like to be a woman I did have the thought of what might a religion be like had it been female created and maintained. Would it be virtuous like Christianity? I think feminism is just this thing. I don’t believe women can be as virtuous as men can be but I don’t believe they can be it more consistently and regardless they can be very admirable. I think it’s possible they have different virtues than men.
I've yet to attain deep virtue, but i always value chastity and restraint in myself as a man though im not perfect. I still believe that self control in this way is protective of women. I've never not felt at odds with the world in this. Its so hopeless that no women believe in chastity anymore. And its a matter of great honor and pride to be a popular fuck as a man. Trying to attain classical virtue puts you at odds with the world.

Good info but for some reason I'm finding this convo less interesting than I usually find your episodes, Louise. My favourite so far, or, rather, the one I keep thinking about, was the one about women in Roman culture.
I actually found this to be one of the better episodes. Especially the conversation about abortion. I'm not American, but the demands of American feminists for access to abortion makes decent people reject all feminism in many places. Helen Dales interview was good as well, I agree, as was Mary Harrington's. I like hearing a renewal of women's role as carer's.
Funnily, in contrast to your sentiment, going into this latest podcast I was thinking that it's time for me to start paying for what feels like a privilege.
