Before this class, I did not know who Bertrand Russell was, However, I've always been an advocate for "staying curious" and question everything. It would seem that Russell would agree! Most likely I'm going to delve more into his work
Hi Matt, many thanks for the links with past science, especially interested with the notion that the discipline is not quantifiable with any Evidence Base other than the transformation of self through these contemplative disciplines and reflections, very wise words. Best regards. Russ UG Bsc Hns (Open) in the UK
English is not my mother tounge....and I find these hard to fully comprehend.... "The value of Philosophy" consist a lot of philosophical ideas so may I ask ....sir can you give me atleast 3 words that captured the essence of the reading?
Russell was a popular public intellectual, helping those who'd listen see through demagogues' and warmongers' ploys . I'd ask him what of his approach he found most effective, and how he'd modify it to help mankind today. With democracy, truth and reasonableness under constant attack, we could learn much from his example. Thanks for your interest!
3) Russell says that philosophy is to be studied for the sake of the importance of questions it addresses. He provides a thought experiment to demonstrate the importance of these questions. What is it? Explain his reasoning.
