      ***** I believe that you would be the one driven by ideology and not common sense. The all knowing scientists have been wrong for the past 40 years, since the first Earth Day 1970. Then they predicted that, due to increasing CO2 levels, we would freeze and by the year 2000 the earth would be 11 degree colder. Now, because of rising CO2 levels, we are getting warmer. 15 years ago Al Gore predicted that, in 15 years, virtually all of the ice cap will be gone. Obviously that is not the case. So if it is, "Well they obviously didn't know then" maybe you should try a different rebuttal because who's to say that the people who have been getting it wrong for the last 40 years will be right this time? Obviously we want to leave the earth in good shape, recycle, don't litter and all that, but spending trillions of taxpayer's dollars on something that has no actual proof of existing, and definitely not to the extent that it is portrayed, is not the answer to making the earth better. Regulating cars and actual industry that could be putting more money into researching better fuels rather than meeting the EPA's demands is not helping the problem.

      L1zardBoy5 "Then they predicted that, due to increasing CO2 levels, we would freeze and by the year 2000 the earth would be 11 degree colder. " that was never a consensus position, there may have been some scientists predicting that, but in the 1970^s, most scientific studies predicted that the CO2 warming will overcome the observed cooling.
      journals.ametsoc.org/doi/pdf/10.1175/2008BAMS2370.1
      "15 years ago Al Gore predicted that, in 15 years, virtually all of the ice cap will be gone."
      no he didn't, and even if, he is not a scientist.
      AGW is an observed fact, not a single scientific isntitution on the planet rejects AGW.
      we measured it by a bunch of measurements.
      are you aware of those measurements? what is your objection to the conclusions basedo n the measurements?

      The sad truth is the planet is cooling and these PhD's that are claiming the planet is warming are not using the data correctly. They are simply bought and paid for one simple reason. To help implement a carbon tax so more people can be greed and rape the earth and the slaves on it. Open your eyes people. The IPCC has lost all credibility and the scientists that arent afraid of losing grant money or big corporate funding are jumping ship after analyzing the data correctly.

      Devin Munyon So people who disagree with you should die? That is one of the most ignorant things i have ever heard. The motto of the science channel is "Question Everything" for gods sake. If what scientists say is never questioned in any regard, we end up a solar system that orbits the earth, tectonic plates that don't shift (proven wrong in the 20th century), and a 20-40 million year old earth rather than the 4.55 billion accepted today by scientists. These people are not Gods who can do no wrong, they should be questioned just like the rest of us. Science is never settled on any issue and if someone disagrees with something maybe have a discussion that goes beyond the lines of, "Why are people like you still alive?"

    Before asking other countries to limit their carbon emissions, start by limiting the US's. They are almost as big as China's. The USA has got alot of progress to do in that matter
    It's easy to blame others.

    • @TheYxxy
      @TheYxxy 9 лет назад +2

      commandolunge He doesn't want to blame anyone though... ;) And I believe that the US is rich enough to afford living without fossile fuels.
      Also, did nobody realise what he wanted to replace fossile fuels with? NATURAL GAS AND NUCLEAR POWER?? Seriously?

    • @CrayOutoors
      @CrayOutoors 9 лет назад +3

      commandolunge I agree, but the US along with Europe and the developed countries are starting to cut back. Once a country is developed their carbon emissions cap off and then begin going the other way. The problem is all of the developing countries are following the same pattern we did and are having an industrial revolution similar to ours, our industrial revolution was extremely damaging to the environment, we want the developing counties to not make the same mistake and take a different path to development that is sustainable. We shouldn't judge the developing countries for wanting what we have and doing the same thing we did, but at the same time if they develop in the same destructive, fossil-fuel dependent manner that we developed in, it will destroy our planet which can only take so much. It is our job and our duty as humans to help these other counties develop in a way that is sustainable and to not let them make the same mistakes that the US and Europe made during the industrial revolution.

      ***** We don't need scientists or textbooks to prove old earth. How old is the earth? I have proof (in the ground) for you that the world is very old. Impact craters over 200 km diam. The largest crater that a nuke makes is about a hundred meters. And for a crater ten times that diam (LxBxD) makes it a thousand times more crater volume (excavated). And ten times again in diam makes it another thousand times more volume. So a 1 km diam crater would require the explosive power of a thousand nukes and a ten km diam crater requires a million nukes. And a 100 km diam crater requires a billion nukes. And a 200 km diam crater requires the explosive power of 8 billion nukes to make a crater that big. There are a couple of craters that are bigger and some nearly 200 km diam. Your flood requires that all the impacts occurred during the flood (within a year). Cos there is no known record of such an event. Only the craters themselves. So creationists put the impacts in the flood to cover that (and your flood was destructive, anyway). But there is a ballistics problem. There would be nothing left and we wouldn't be here. If they all struck within 6,000 years, there would be nothing left. The world is old and you can see the craters (if you book a flight tour) and make the iridium test yourself to prove impacts. I'll go through that later if you want.

      @duncanmacisaac3749 9 лет назад

      No, the hoax is claiming that 'cap and trade' or a carbon tax will save us all. They both just make a certain few rich, while doing very little to curb emissions. If the planet is in serious trouble, and carbon is the cause, ban ALL non-essential fossil fuel engine use NOW. No more private jets, no racing (and I'm a big race fan), no ATV sport vehicles (except for SAR), no humvees in the city, no 'mobile hotel on wheels' towing SUVs. Of course you never hear anyone pushing those ideas, THAT would inconvenience the rich!

    • @duncanmacisaac3749
      @duncanmacisaac3749 9 лет назад +1

      Many European countries have had a carbon tax/cap and trade in place for a while, and it has not proven to significantly reduce emissions. It hurts the middle class consumer , and make wealthy people who invest in the 'traders' more wealthy. My 'extremes' are a reaction to the 'extremes' of the environmental extremists (and were 'tongue in cheek') . Of course we need to develop new energy sources, as we already are. Thorium, for example, as wind and solar just wont cut it, once we all have electric cars. However, what you feel is 'ludicrous' might be just 'inconvenient', IF it is as bad as the extremists wish us to believe! And I did not recommend 'banning it all'. I said the 'frivolous' burning of fossil fuels. It's great to have 'no idle laws', but do so many city dwellers need to drive SUVs, etc, etc, etc? Let's conserve that finite resource!

    I believe that pollution is a horrible thing. We need more people like this who are willing to help. If the average human continues to live without change we will never grow. In order for a big change to occurs, something terrible will have to happen. We will have to be so deep into the problem for everyone to finally see the issue. By that time it will be far to late for and change. We need to educate others so that we can fix the issue when we still have a chance.

    Really beautiful video!!
    Does anyone know how much CO2 is produced by the production of devices like the GoPro that most people are just not able to use in a manner like in this video or people buy and don´t use at all?
    To GoPro and Prof. Richard Muller: How much Co2 was produced by creating this video - e.g. by travelling to those beautiful but remote places of our planet?
    But really an impressive video. I would really like to produce something like that myself.
    Wouldn´t it be a great idea if GoPro would offer the clips to all their videos in full resolution online under a CC license that everybody can use them to create meaningful content? This would also not add additional CO2 to our atmosphere or at least would keep it low.
    Thanks,Michael

    I would love to say I was optimistic about our future and our planets future, but I'm not. I simply don't think we can move away from the way we live, produce our food or our power. However, nothing would excite me more than to see our planet start to repair, ice coverage to increase, ocean stocks boom and the polar bear to not be extinct when this happens.

    Umm I don't get what you people are talking about. He clearly say that we cause the problem but we have not to cancel completely fossil fuels usage but to step by step switch from fossil fuels to clear energy. And actually I look to our future optimistic too because I see that fossil fuels are just a stepping stone to invent better technologies which are safer, more efficient and ways to produce energy in eco-friendly way. But I don't say that we should just stop care about it because what is making the most difference is our society and what we do in our daily lives. Keep up the good spirit :)

    Courtney Marmo I agree with you. If anybody would take a second to think carbon monoxide is not a pollutant, it's food for every plant on this earth. Simply as this no carbon monoxide no oxygen.

      Zack Ziegler Don't you mean Carbon Dioxide? Carbon monoxide is definitely a poison.

      Matthew Bergin Yes my bad. Don't know why I was thinking of monoxide, dioxide is what I meant.

      Seriously? Nuclear is one of the safest energy sources there is. Oil? Ocean spills. Coal? Mine collapses. Natural gas? Explosions and leaks.
      You hear about the nuclear melt downs a lot more because so many people are uninformed like you and eat that shit up on the news.

      Leo Tonozzi Oil spills cleared up in a year or so, coal mine collapses and maybe 200 die, nuclear meltdown and millions at risk of their lives from radiation, chernobyl, no one can ever live there again, Fukushima, the clear up is still on going and we'll probably never know what damage was done to the marine life and those living nearby, 3 mile island...that's to name three. I would be for nuclear if it wasn't the fact that when there is an accident the damage done is huge.They're still cleaning up Fukushima and there's still huge problems...unless you've not read about it lately?

    • @321omoi

      ArcturanMegadonkey The BP Oil spill in 2010 is still negatively impacting the gulf and the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989 is still impacting Alaska. Furthermore, coal mining not only results in the deaths of miners , but also results in : Ecosystem destruction, harmful particulate matter, SOx (which leads to acid rain), NOx, and CO2. In the 60 plus years of using Nuclear Energy we have had only 3 major accidents. Fortunately, the proper protocol prevented any major damage. As we continue to develop this technology it will get safer, and ultimately will pave the way for a cleaner future.

      ***** agree apart from 'In the 60 plus years of using Nuclear Energy we have had only 3 major accidents. Fortunately, the proper protocol prevented any major damage..'
      Are you telling me that Fukushima hasn't spread any radiation into the sea? and we never had an fallout from Chernobyl in Wales? I think you'll find that all 3 major accidents have caused enough problems in the world to say the damage has already been done.
      it's a shame as I agree nuclear power stations are great because they're clean energy IF and it's a big IF they don't have problems....which they have!

      What I am saying is that other fuel industries have already caused imeasureably more damage than nuclear ever has or ever will. Especially if we continue to be so afraid of technology that sounds "scary" and "dangerous".

    "What can WE do to help China...?" [~2:00] What utterly arrogant bull. While WE (the US) have certainly "helped" them already by shipping them millions of jobs and buying back from them much of what used to be made here, their economic, industrial, technological growth are now unmatched in the world. To imagine that WE can offer them anything at this point is insulting to that country. They will clean their air now that they can afford to, and our best play is to learn from them in the process.
