tbh I think pes is going to blow it out of the water next year, they are using fucking unreal engine 5 imagine the possibilities (cloth simulation, etc) I think ea should be really scared because pes is doing a whole series revamp who knows they might even add kit creation to career mode
@@isunuoyaizata2270 It's not like the Fox Engine is any bad. Just check out MGSV. And that's from 2015. And, to be honest, I'm more interested in ball and player physics than cloth simulation. Some more tactical options and player individuality (like offensive RB should fell different than a defensive one) would also be nice. So, in this regard, the engine change is actually worrying because they've already limited the tactical options and player stats in the lets call it "Fox Engine" era compared to the old one.
@@maverick8697 I understand what you mean but you have to admit in terms of development capabilities unreal engine 5 would be a huge step up from the fox engine and the frostbite engine, with that said imagine all the new things that could be implemented into the game( you have to admit pes gameplay is awesome but the game feels barren) and this id just the start or a new generation so they haven't even begun to touch the surface of unreal engine 5 capabilities. all I'm saying is that pes has a great road ahead of them and FIFA should better watch out cause we are coming for those licenses

This is their first run with the new engine, so that might be an issue too. And will Konami go in the direction we want? They might decide to make another arcade, "super responsive" game because it makes more money. Don't get me wrong I'm cautiously optimistic. But let's wait till the game is out. I agree with you PES 21 is a real simulator, The gameplay is pretty lighter, especially when you play using full manual pass and shoots. I don't regret that had buying the game, and the graphics are amazing as always. The game is very fun!!!
@@ohpls PES' Physics seem to be made differently to FIFA. FIFA is scripted to an extent and the ball moves around oddly because of it. In PES the ball feels independent to everything else and the game just looks and feels way more realistic. I feel like I've scored the same goal so many times in FIFA but in PES every goal feels different. PES has more talented developers but FIFA has the sponsors which makes the game feel official. But PES just imitates the real thing better. It always has.

@@candre5204 it's literally because of the title, FIFA. It's easier to recognise and relate to because it's an official organisation. PES on the other hand, pro evolution soccer, isn't a relatable title, the word soccer sounds strange to people in Europe and most of the world.
My co-worker just came up to me and said "Oh you watching a bit of football are you?" I think that explains how realistic the graphics and mechanics are.
@@KnightMD I've tried FIFA a few times but it gets boring very quickly. Your review suggests things haven't changed with KONAMI. Each game has major issues which they fail to acknowledge. The next game will fix these but introduce something else. PES 5/6 just worked. When I did play on the PS3/4, I found myself playing on manual as the assisted just felt like full auto.
I think it is not about realistics, i think fifa is more about fun. Is the same when you compare driving games, all of them are different but still about race and stuff like that. Fifa is winining the football videogame market for things that have nothing to do with gameplay.
Neither of them are realistic. If you think dribbling passed defenders consecutively, fouls being given for nothing and bicycle kicks multiple times per game are realistic then you don't actually watch football.

This video is amazing! It's my first time ever playing PES every single day instead of FIFA, even after trying it's "demo" (EA Play). This game is amazing in most areas, except (for me as a FIFA born player) menus, referee, narrator and dribbling gameplay. Really excited for PES 2022 and to follow your next videos, Knight.

Your mods and broadcast camera angle make the game look incredible, every time it cut to a new clip it took me a few seconds to realise it wasn’t from a real broadcast

this year's version is truly superb. I play manual passing and shooting on superstar difficulty, very slow game speed....and man, the game is so immersive. So many little details that make every game, every player, every p[lay, feel it's own.

It will be a blessing to Konami if they hire you to promote Pes man. A solid game with huge potential but very very poor marketing. This is off topic but my main problem with pes is their menus and overall graphical user interface looks totally dated, cutscenes don’t happen in real time (especially with celebrations) which just breaks the immersion of the game and the awful facial animations. I just hope they get it right for pes2022
glad to see improvements on the fouls side. in pes 20 is absolutely stupid how your player always seem to make a foul and at the same time they get weak as fuck everytime when facing an oponent challenge
I find headers really easy to get on target, even on manual, but I struggle with other aspects of manual commands, like the curled passes I would want to do but can't pull off. I suggest you try headers in training mode, it's all about timing. Shoot too early, and you will impact the ball while you're descending, turning it into a lemon. Shoot too late and you will hit the ball while still ascending, sending it high. I will admit it is hard to time it right (game's pretty strict about this aspect) but it is manageable and not random. As general guidance, try to shoot when the ball has reached the greatest height.

I left fifa back in fifa 2020, then I switched to pes and my god I am in love with it. Like the only pes game that i used to play beside pes 21 was pes 2009 and that game was legendary in my eyes but this pes 21 was mind blowing and especially the passes and realism in the play, like my dad once walked into my room and said “why is Barca playing Liverpool again” though he doesn’t know about video games and doesn’t like them but told him that it’s video game and not an actual game.
I love the 'heavy first touches' in this game. Its just realistic. There's a lot of difference between bad and good players too, which makes this game very special in comparison with FIFA
I just got back into football games this year with fifa 21, fifa 12 being the last one I had played. And after a lot of games I figured out I was getting tired of the same thing over and over again and thats when I started to look into PES, and I must say, I am really impressed and will definitely buy the one coming next year
The main reason why the animations and cutscenes are so useless is because they use mo-cap to make their animations along with the engine limitations, This might be fixed by unreal.
Another fantastic in depth video. A number of issues fixed from pes 2020 (not all). Regarding the player animations, for me I think the players seem to move more fluid and smooth with the dynamic wide default cam (2,2)than any other camera angle. I’ve tried playing with other camera settings, but the player movement just seems more “stiff and robotic”. Could be me going mad, but would love for someone else this out to see. Playing on PS4, daytime sunny games.
@@KnightMD I think it may be easier to tap R2 while holding down R1 for running. I mean, R1 + R2 is unassigned when in possession I believe. Besides, R2 is analogic so how far down you tap it could regulate how much further you knock the ball, with a shallow tap being only a slightly heavier touch than normal
You managed to display the most significant updates to the game whilst making a strong case for manual settings. Impressive! I think the offline experience is much better, but the improvements to defensive play aren't enough to counterweigh the smoother attacks, especially online where most PES 20 bugs and exploits are still used. What baffles me is Konami never sharing detailed release notes. Listening to the community and clearly communicating the improvements has saved many games. Either way, congrats on a fantastic video. Truly your computer's swan song :)
Thanks for the lovely words! Yeah they're a Japanese company through and through. You can tell by how little they communicate. Like the long knock of the ball is possible by holding R3 and double tapping sprint (or double tapping sprint then holding R3) but they never actually told anyone it was in the game.
@@KnightMD True, but hopefully that mindset will change as other big japanese developers are becoming more and more interactive. I don't think the "new" dribble is exactly like the triple R1 dash. I think it's a normal double dash but since you press R3 to lift the ball there's less friction and it travels further. I could be wrong, though, and either way the triple R1 was way simpler!

Wow! I just found this review by chance and it is so well written and displayed. You clearly have great passion for PES. I've long since been disillusioned with FIFA because of their focus on Ultimate Team and loot boxes. However, as an XBOX player, I've always been reluctant with PES due to the lack of licenses and inability to mod like PC and Playstation. Hope one day in the future (maybe next gen) this could be fixed!

It seems paradoxal but the "Stadium" skewed/realistic camera actually helps immensely for manual passing and manual shooting. Particularly because we see much more of the pitch and can find your teammates easier. I was struggling hugely making the switch to manual passing until i started using this camera and it became much better (even though it's still a struggle).

Hi there I've applied the simple fix with the sider dll and there are still some issues just to give a heads up. But some issues are like with other updates like minor graphical issues, for example it won't display FIFA World cup but rather it's original title international cup and some players as before are missing like Reus and Haaland. Not sure if that's a bug but just wanted to give a heads up. We appreciate the work the whole modding community has done and thank you for keeping us updated.
@@KnightMD Thanks again for the update link. I do have an issue though. I cannot for the life of me get the Editfile to take it seems. So basically I followed the instructions in the update file and updated sider to the newest version which seemed to work but I noticed that the GFXmod wasn't working and I was suddenly able to play online. I checked for simple graphics like it saying UEFA instead of European championship and it did, the bundesliga was also updated with correct roster but again it was weird because the GFXmod didn't seem to be working. So I continued my LaLiga league and saw that it wasn't applying the stadiums or graphical touches. So I installed Sider from the original all in one Mod than updated ONLY the sider dll to version 7.1.2 and that got it back to applying the GFX mod and removing online capability but the small graphical touches like names is gone and the bundisliga is missing players again. I updated the edit file many times now with the newest update and it just doesn't seem to want to work. I hope this makes sense LOL.
I wish there was more midfield play and battles for ball possession. It’s all up and down counter attacks, there’s no midfield. It does look great and “realistic” during counter attacks but there are huge gaps between defenders and attackers
Yes it’s probably the biggest issue I have as well. Unfortunately is an issue with how the AI is coded as Knight touched on a bit. Hoping they can get it sorted with the new engine for 2022 but I’m not overly optimistic.

When I did play on the PS3/4, I found myself playing on manual as the assisted just felt like full auto.

I think it is not about realistics, i think fifa is more about fun. Is the same when you compare driving games, all of them are different but still about race and stuff like that.
Fifa is winining the football videogame market for things that have nothing to do with gameplay.
Neither of them are realistic. If you think dribbling passed defenders consecutively, fouls being given for nothing and bicycle kicks multiple times per game are realistic then you don't actually watch football.

Your mods and broadcast camera angle make the game look incredible, every time it cut to a new clip it took me a few seconds to realise it wasn’t from a real broadcast

this year's version is truly superb. I play manual passing and shooting on superstar difficulty, very slow game speed....and man, the game is so immersive. So many little details that make every game, every player, every p[lay, feel it's own.

It will be a blessing to Konami if they hire you to promote Pes man. A solid game with huge potential but very very poor marketing.
This is off topic but my main problem with pes is their menus and overall graphical user interface looks totally dated, cutscenes don’t happen in real time (especially with celebrations) which just breaks the immersion of the game and the awful facial animations. I just hope they get it right for pes2022
glad to see improvements on the fouls side. in pes 20 is absolutely stupid how your player always seem to make a foul and at the same time they get weak as fuck everytime when facing an oponent challenge

the number of times I thought I was looking at real-life footage is uncountable..
I find headers really easy to get on target, even on manual, but I struggle with other aspects of manual commands, like the curled passes I would want to do but can't pull off. I suggest you try headers in training mode, it's all about timing. Shoot too early, and you will impact the ball while you're descending, turning it into a lemon. Shoot too late and you will hit the ball while still ascending, sending it high. I will admit it is hard to time it right (game's pretty strict about this aspect) but it is manageable and not random. As general guidance, try to shoot when the ball has reached the greatest height.
That makes sense. It wasn't a power bar issue. When I get a PC I'll give that a try!

I left fifa back in fifa 2020, then I switched to pes and my god I am in love with it. Like the only pes game that i used to play beside pes 21 was pes 2009 and that game was legendary in my eyes but this pes 21 was mind blowing and especially the passes and realism in the play, like my dad once walked into my room and said “why is Barca playing Liverpool again” though he doesn’t know about video games and doesn’t like them but told him that it’s video game and not an actual game.

I love the 'heavy first touches' in this game. Its just realistic. There's a lot of difference between bad and good players too, which makes this game very special in comparison with FIFA
I just got back into football games this year with fifa 21, fifa 12 being the last one I had played.
And after a lot of games I figured out I was getting tired of the same thing over and over again and thats when I started to look into PES, and I must say, I am really impressed and will definitely buy the one coming next year

The main reason why the animations and cutscenes are so useless is because they use mo-cap to make their animations along with the engine limitations, This might be fixed by unreal.

A number of issues fixed from pes 2020 (not all).
Regarding the player animations, for me I think the players seem to move more fluid and smooth with the dynamic wide default cam (2,2)than any other camera angle.
I’ve tried playing with other camera settings, but the player movement just seems more “stiff and robotic”. Could be me going mad, but would love for someone else this out to see.

“Triple sprint” is context-sensitive to avoiding tackles
That might be what it is, yes. Big mistake though. Should be a triple tap with the last tap hold duration influencing how far the ball travels.
@@KnightMD I think it may be easier to tap R2 while holding down R1 for running. I mean, R1 + R2 is unassigned when in possession I believe. Besides, R2 is analogic so how far down you tap it could regulate how much further you knock the ball, with a shallow tap being only a slightly heavier touch than normal

You managed to display the most significant updates to the game whilst making a strong case for manual settings. Impressive!
I think the offline experience is much better, but the improvements to defensive play aren't enough to counterweigh the smoother attacks, especially online where most PES 20 bugs and exploits are still used. What baffles me is Konami never sharing detailed release notes. Listening to the community and clearly communicating the improvements has saved many games. Either way, congrats on a fantastic video. Truly your computer's swan song :)
Thanks for the lovely words! Yeah they're a Japanese company through and through. You can tell by how little they communicate. Like the long knock of the ball is possible by holding R3 and double tapping sprint (or double tapping sprint then holding R3) but they never actually told anyone it was in the game.
@@KnightMD True, but hopefully that mindset will change as other big japanese developers are becoming more and more interactive.
I don't think the "new" dribble is exactly like the triple R1 dash. I think it's a normal double dash but since you press R3 to lift the ball there's less friction and it travels further. I could be wrong, though, and either way the triple R1 was way simpler!

Wow! I just found this review by chance and it is so well written and displayed. You clearly have great passion for PES. I've long since been disillusioned with FIFA because of their focus on Ultimate Team and loot boxes. However, as an XBOX player, I've always been reluctant with PES due to the lack of licenses and inability to mod like PC and Playstation. Hope one day in the future (maybe next gen) this could be fixed!

It seems paradoxal but the "Stadium" skewed/realistic camera actually helps immensely for manual passing and manual shooting. Particularly because we see much more of the pitch and can find your teammates easier. I was struggling hugely making the switch to manual passing until i started using this camera and it became much better (even though it's still a struggle).

Hi there I've applied the simple fix with the sider dll and there are still some issues just to give a heads up. But some issues are like with other updates like minor graphical issues, for example it won't display FIFA World cup but rather it's original title international cup and some players as before are missing like Reus and Haaland. Not sure if that's a bug but just wanted to give a heads up. We appreciate the work the whole modding community has done and thank you for keeping us updated.

@@KnightMD Thanks again for the update link. I do have an issue though. I cannot for the life of me get the Editfile to take it seems. So basically I followed the instructions in the update file and updated sider to the newest version which seemed to work but I noticed that the GFXmod wasn't working and I was suddenly able to play online. I checked for simple graphics like it saying UEFA instead of European championship and it did, the bundesliga was also updated with correct roster but again it was weird because the GFXmod didn't seem to be working. So I continued my LaLiga league and saw that it wasn't applying the stadiums or graphical touches. So I installed Sider from the original all in one Mod than updated ONLY the sider dll to version 7.1.2 and that got it back to applying the GFX mod and removing online capability but the small graphical touches like names is gone and the bundisliga is missing players again. I updated the edit file many times now with the newest update and it just doesn't seem to want to work. I hope this makes sense LOL.

I wish there was more midfield play and battles for ball possession. It’s all up and down counter attacks, there’s no midfield. It does look great and “realistic” during counter attacks but there are huge gaps between defenders and attackers
Yes it’s probably the biggest issue I have as well. Unfortunately is an issue with how the AI is coded as Knight touched on a bit. Hoping they can get it sorted with the new engine for 2022 but I’m not overly optimistic.
