    +Impression Blend I picked this book up after stumbling upon promising reviews on Goodreads and I was not disappointed! From the manner in which it is written, not giving much away from the get go, this was a tale that latched onto me pretty quickly and refused to let go. I wholeheartedly agree with you when you say you hope the movie adaptation doesn't diminish the rich personal insights Carey gives us to his characters thoughts and personality. Quietly confident that it'll be done right!

    • @ImpressionBlend
      @ImpressionBlend 8 лет назад

      There is some voiceover in the trailer, so maybe they'll just do that throughout the movie and bring in the personalities that way? Not sure, I just hope the movie does the book justice.

    First off, I'd just like to say that I really enjoyed this review. :) I had never heard of The Girl with All the Gifts before I watched this review, but you made the book sound really interesting, so I might check it out. :) That being said, I'm beyond thrilled to see you finally do another book review. :) I've loved the movie and TV show reviews (Especially your Game of Thrones videos :)) that you've done in the past several months, but I had been hoping to see you do more book reviews at some point. I really am glad to see you finally do another book review. :)

    I can see what you mean about the middle dragging a bit, there was a lot of science'y stuff that some people might find uninteresting. I think I read this in about a day, so it wasn't really an issue, but it definitely wasn't as fast paced as the rest of the book.
    I'm a big of fan book reviews coming back to your channel. Can't wait to see more!

    ~SPOILERS~ This was the worst case of bait-and-switch ever. I went into this not knowing anything except for the blurb in the back you just read. I was so in with the whole base and the mystery and not knowing what the kids really were. Then all of the sudden they strip all mystery aside and boom! run-of-the-mill zombie novel. UGGHHHH. And even though I read the whole thing, the book lost me entirely at that STUPID Gallhager character getting eaten because of being the worse soldier and dumbest human being. Sorry, that was extremely frustrating, I was curious about how you felt about that since you liked the book.

    • @ImpressionBlend
      @ImpressionBlend 8 лет назад +3

      I think because I knew this book had to do with zombies I didn't feel betrayed by the blurb on the back. I do have to say that Gallhager was one of my least favorite characters, so I understand where you're coming from there. I wouldn't call this a run-of-the-mill zombie novel as a whole because of the beginning and the last third, but the middle section is definitely more of a "traditional" zombie thriller.

    • @gussgrimm1120
      @gussgrimm1120 8 лет назад

      It's interesting how much the perspective can change the whole experience. I don't know how much I would have liked the book had I known, but finding out in the middle definitely played a huge part in my distaste for it. But anyways, I'm glad your experience was a pleasant one, and thanks for replying. Keep rocking those videos, and keep up the book reviews!

      Gallhagar is just a kid i think he got the wrong time to be egotisticaly after he ditch his group, and he think hes gonna make it because they make it, and after hes been through he just lost his mind after he heard from melanie they were bunch of junkers, i think it make sense to his character that he run away from them i like gallhagar he reminds me of my self being a unconfident but gonna make it through by accepting what you are

    I loved the book except for two issues. One small and one big one (spoiler warning)....
    1. Why wouldn't soldiers carry crossbows or bow and arrows as part of their arsenal. Their quite and the arrows/bolts can be reused.
    2. Zombie sex. When you think about it for more than a second it's absurd. Sure everything could be just right that a male and female Hungry could successfully have sex and a baby that could survive. Out of 7 billion former people it reasonable to say it could have happened once or twice. But that's about it.

    For any die hard book worms who knows what's good and what's not in books, this is just a literary drivel made to earn the author some money. There were so many literary conveniences that the author used that it made this book a frustrating read. There were instances when a character was out of their character it was obvious that the author just manipulated their actions just to make the story go from point A to point B. These manipulations were so obvious that it snaps you right back to logical reality and think that this or that character shouldn't be acting that way given the circumstances that transpired beforehand. And when a book jolts you out of the fantasy due to convenient inconsistencies drummed up by the author, it will just be a frustrating read. This was one of those books in which I couldn't wait until I was done with it.

    • @shellykp33

      You want logical reality...in a zombie novel. Right, okay.

    • @themostdeadmeme1609
      @themostdeadmeme1609 5 лет назад

      Yeah um.... I disagree, personally I believe the story is wonderful, expecting only reality in a story will limit it, which doesn't pull you in, but actually forced you out. Stories are ment to be creative and interesting, crafting a world with in depth characters is one of the greatest things a writer can do. Grounding everything makes it boring, and in turn less enjoyable.
