If a voice is not in shape, a microphone won't help. Maybe it's a recording device. Some lyric singers have used microphones for specific performances if acoustics make it impossible for them to be heard all over the place (e.g. open spaces), but that doesn't mean they don't push their voice like they'd do in any concert hall or opera theatre. Of course, if a lyric singer dedided to perform pop songs with the typical pop arrangement (voice included), it is likely they'll use microphones, because pop music is arranged this way to be heard by large audiences.
She's glorious: the voice, the presence, the whole damn shoot. And yet - oh dear, this is where I'm going to be drowned in a tsunami of flying tomatoes - isn't she a bit TOO GOOD for this maudlin kitch? Forgive me; one man's kitsch is another man's joy, fun, feeling, recreation, humanity, exploration, time out, necessary sentimentality... Yes, I know Pavarotti was second-to-none in his Neapolitan Folk songs and his Three Tenors and his association with...was it Bono (I thought that was a type of canned dog-food? When I was nipper, it was). All this was fine and it made a vastly greater audience come to love him. But the difference was this. Come to RUclips and there is a wide enough profusion of Pavarotti to give the full sense of his range. Come on RUclips to Elina Garanca, and there's bugger all except this. Okay; also less than half an hour of Schumann lieder - and that's your lot except for a handful of religious pot-boilers. Is this all she deserves? Oh dear indeed.🙄
It is her gesture of respect for a composer much loved in her homeland on his jubilee (the aforementioned composer at the piano). This concert has a sentimental meaning and does not pretend to be anything else. A symbiosis between two artists loved in their country. This is the format where their two different artistic fields collide.
Elina es una cantante de tan gran calidad que puede cantar lo que quiera. Gustos son gustos y lo que para unos es una sensibleria idiota puede conmover otros hasta las lágrimas. Grandes artistas no son prejuiciosos, les gusta conocer cosas diferentes y no tienen miedo de se arriesgar. A mí me gusta más otro tipo de obras musicales que el repertorio de este concierto, pero valorizo mucho el esfuerzo de Elina en no encasillarse, en buscar variedad en su repertório.
