How hard would it be to fit the missing 4wd bits from a slightly newer version? Are they compatible? Maybe finding original fitment parts would be difficult for the limited model you have but the next and more common model might have the same exact parts..?
@GeoffBuysCars probably not worth getting the propshaft with the extra expense complication and mpg. You might suffer a bit of torque-steer if you don't drive like a typical volvo owner. Hope you can fix the clacking on the front with a clean out, repack the grease and a new boot. CV joints aren't that expensive anyway, avoid the cheap import ones, the boot rubber is wafer thin and the bearings made of chocolate. Surely 28 mpg is possible ? 23 is a bit harsh
I am currently lying on a beach in Goa listening to my favourite podcaster and have been away the whole of November.. I will come back to celebrate christmas with family and be away again for another month in the sun in January... all because I drive a 20yr old Honda Jazz 1.6 petrol. It costs peanuts to run and there is no monthly payment that keeps me chained to anything in the U.K. When people in expensive cars look at me with contempt. I just smile to myself with complete and utter inner peace ❤

It's only about the pelasure of driving the car that I have chosen to spend my money on and believe me please it delivers in bucket loads!
68 grand for a Volvo Estate! My parents bought a 4 bedroom detached house with double garage and 2 gardens for a similar amount of money 30 years ago. That's scary.
I drive a cheap, thirsty little tank, a Terios. The old 1.4 one. I also work as a mechanic. What it cost (nowt) & the amount of fuel it uses pales into insignificance compared to the cost to repair of the latest fancy stuff. I change the oil & put in fuel. End of. At work, I fit eye-wateringly expensive parts onto eye-wateringly expensive vehicles. I can live with putting fuel into mine.
I say this all the time. Paying double for an EV vs ICE is a lot of fuel. My car is 25k petrol vs 43k EV. 18k saving is at my average MPG 115k miles of driving. So 7 years for me.
I put the Michelin Cross Climate tyres on my standard 2wd V70 and she would drive through snow drifts with no problem, they’re great tyres 👍 Oh and re running costs with the 2.4 diesel engine and a six speed manual gearbox it used to average 43mpg in general driving and you could happily get 50+mpg driven sensibly on a run. That was a 2007 V70
I sincerely hope that the same thing happens to the car industry as has happened to music and movies / TV; that independent companies take over from the big conglomerates. We need our idiosyncratic and loveable cars back.
I had a brand new V70 2.5 T (2002 or so) and a Range Rover 4.6. The Volvo was by far the better car, more spacious, more refined, better on the road too. So much more room in the boot too. Great journey Geoff.
@@GeoffBuysCars Stop it with the 'members only' bollocks Geoff. For those of us who watch lots of different channels, this is just another online piece of crap that no-one needs. We watch you because we like your videos, not because we want to be members of a million 'clubs'. Stop it.
I have a '13 Focus TDCi with 225k on the clock since new! It is a daily drive and very well maintained. Almost perfect inside but a few battle scars on the outside. I do long journeys (300-500miles) on most outings (a bit of local driving). I get 650 on 50 litres every time. Apart from maintenance and yes, it is like Trigger's Broom but drives like new after constant timely maintenance on suspension, engine & gearbox. Way cheaper than an EV and way better for the environment in terms of whole life cycle impact on the environment.
Subaru ICE cars only use petrol engines mated to a CVT gearbox in all their vehicles available in the uk. No diesels are available any more in their product line up
Geoff, loved the a day if the life of Geoff marathon, enjoyed the rambling tone. As for the price of the new cars it is nothing compared to what the Mac Masters electric milk float cost, keep up rocking it dude
My initial reaction was "Tonka Toy" (which I absolutely loved as a kid, had a blue pick-up one which looked liked a Toyota Hilux with big chunky rubber tyres). Not a fan of the rear-end treatment on the Santa Fe otherwise looks ok.
Not only did I make it to the proper end, but I made it to the end of the proper end. A pointless journey for you but I enjoyed it. Thanks for doing the driving.

Nice to see this kind of videos :) I'm a big Volvo fan. I'm having a 2015-2016 V60 CrossCountry Nav Lux II, 2.0 diesel and I'm really happy with it. I believe it was a last version without a touch screen tablet but already with electronic speedometer. Been looking for a new car from time to time but always got that feeling on a back of my head which is stopping me. £30 road tax, over 37mpg in town and over 50mpg on a motorway. Fine for me. My wife is saying that it's a grandpa's car.... but I really like it as a driving should be enjoyable, and it is. What is great, Volvo is still providing a full Europe maps update for free :) Happy that we are still having a choice. If I have to be honest, Volvo has it's own quirks like, massive turn circle, spongy breaks, etc but it's really safe. My mechanic have hit a tree couple of weeks ago (in his C60 cabrio)... 70mph, didn't wear his seat belt... and opened his doors and come out of a car... it is saying something about a safety of these cars. I wanted to buy a V70, but they were not produced anymore and I haven't got enough ££ to buy V90 or XC90... That's why I'm driving V60...
Good Morning Geoff. Lovely to see your Beautiful and Rare Chocolate Yummy Brown Volvo. £ 48 pounds of British Sterling, I can manage at least 300/400 miles in my 2014 Audi A3 TDI. The Subaru Boxer Diesel is not really famous for its reliability...but 45 grand for that Special Edition without having this price negotiated almost seems like a bargain these days, just compare it to the Volvo for 68.000 pounds...
Geoff if you are looking to try out a Subaru Outback may I suggest The H6 3.liter version if you want performance or the 2.5 liter for a good solid mid range performer! Both around 15 years old! both are petrol but they did a diesel which had a few problems. The new ones are far better as all the niggles have gone! The Forester is the smaller version but just as reliable, especially the old models, IE those without all the fancy electronics! I am on my 4th Subaru!
Off the subject Geoff, my daughters supplier of raw milk has had to stop selling it due to some ministry thing have you heard anything like it ? And also Bovaer trails on cows you could make a video about it, Love the series 😊
Thanks for the video, Geoff. Definitely better off running older stuff. The unnecessary roadworks are endemic, the 3-way installation is especially common. The reasons are indirectly to disrupt the motorist. I'm pretty sure they have to have a boundary around soil mounds for H&S, and that when/if the workforce returns they need to be protected by masses of space that they don't need. The main speciality is to set up the barriers and lights then clear off for a few days. They seem to be incapable of spending 10 mins setting them up only when needed. The Santa Fe is the Disco they never built. Nice Puma in the background at the garage at the end.
Hi Geoff, I'm just watching your latest vlogs. Brilliant as always owned one myself many years ago 760 V6 petrol and I love this👍 I've actually sold my new ish Mercedes c220 Estate to buy myself an older 2010 E-Class250D, which I part exchanged my wife's 2005 SLK 200 for the new second-hand E-Class 250d. The second-hand market, I think, is going to do really well. In my opinion👍 I'm going to drive this new E-Class to Spain next year. Costa del Sol, I'm looking forward to it👌🇪🇸 PS just spotted where your Volvo came from as I'm watching your vlog at the moment my Volvo 760 v6 came from that very garage 😂 Tyn-lon Garage, because I lived on Anglesey for many years, keep up the good work mate love your channel cheers Steve from.🏴

I can't believe that you like the look of that Santa Fe. That is the most hideous thing I've seen for a long time, although I suspect the new Jag will take that crown if their new ad is anything to go by. I love my 2014 Hyundai ix35, but Hyundai's seem to be getting uglier with every new model. Most of the Kia equivalents seem to be better looking. That Subaru Outback though ... that is nice, especially in that colour.

As an owner of a 2015 Outback 3.6, this is a “forever” car. Does a little bit of everything (good onroad, does light off-road, has a bit of oomph and is relaxing to drive) and is easy to get in and out of. A bit thirsty around town, but that’s the price one pays for a big, lazy engine
Focus tddi 2003, 1.8L 100k for 595 gbp. Drove it mercilessly for 7 years, 100k miles and gave it away to friend 2 yrs ago, never spent a wasted penny on it, still get reports about mot passes and excellent running
ah, this morning I decided - well, Geoff makes some reasonable videos, I'd like to subscribe and watch more... and here is this episode 😂 nevertheless, it was fun to listen to and to learn a little more about the variety of English accents 😊
I like Geoff, however, anything of that type being currently produced by any manufacturer is truly awful. Understatement is cool, these things are not.
Who are you calling a more-on Geoff ??? 🤣🤣. Just 'cos I've sat and watched you up to 21m 08s in? I'll still watch it to the end though. Hope you enjoyed the sunset.
I had an old Outback, about 2012, for a couple of years when I worked in Albany NY, 2.5L petrol all wheel drive auto with flappy paddles, it was a lovely car, but you must keep it well serviced as the boxer engine and gearbox are prone to fail if not looked after
Yes far better than any current JLR, but it's still horrendous... and I speak with authority as I'm a proud owner of a 2007 santa fe 2.2 diesel even though Lee's Tycan would probably be cheaper to run (as I struggle to get 21 mpg)
I had a 1984 A plate small switchable 4WD estate, only used the 4WD a couple of times in the snow. It was a Toyota Tercel 1.5 petrol 4WD estate, I had it when it was 8yrs old and I had a further 9yrs out of it.
Great video Geoff. Just to let you know that my experience with Michelin Cross Climates is that they are great tyres but seem a softer compound and I've had more punctures with these tyres than I have with any other make of tyre, (and I've been driving a long time). Still, they do what they say on the tin, so to speak.
I too have encountered numerous odd unattended “roadworks” which looked exactly like yours. Sometimes they break up the surface, and dig a hole, often not.
My 2002 Lexus does about 28 mpg. This year the only running expense was a pair of windscreen wipers! Have no plans to change it in for an electric one, even if I had the money-true.
While your on the ramp/lift, just take off the rear part of the drive shaft. It'll stop that bearing whine, put you on 2wheel drive and save you 1k-2k on finding a rear shaft. I ran for two years before I sold mine after doing that :-D
In September got our new Motability car. A Hyundai Tucson Ultimate 1.6t. A turbo petrol car. No mild hybrid. No hybrid. No plug in hybrid. No electric. Salesman didn't try to sell us an electric car. Cost £38.5k. At one time maximum price of Motabilty cars was £25k. Had to pay £2.2k but got £750 towards a new car plus £700 good condition bonus so the car has cost us £750 for 3 or 5 years. I wonder if there will be any petrol cars in 3 or 5 years on the Motability list? The performance figures are wrong. 0 to 60 time of 9s is more like 7s and top speed of 120mph is actually 135mph. Fuel can be 20mpg around town but 40mpg+ on a run.
Hi Geoff can I tell a story about my first car it was a 1949 Morris Oxford full leather bench seat's column gear changer. Me and a pal decided to drive to Cornwall, we lived in Cumbria we travelled about 30 miles, the front brakes were getting hot we had to back the brake shoes off the brake drums. We got there and back but goodness knows how. Fuel was half a crown (12 and a half pence) a gallon. The car was built in the year I was born 😮
Years ago I very nearly bought a 10 year old brown XC70, in fact I drove 200 miles down to Bradford to see it, but bottled out when the trip computer registered 19mpg…..all that 4WD gubbins comes with the weight penalty of the diff and axle from a 940 I was told.
That model Volvo was one of the best. If cars lasted forever, that or similar is what I would have. Loved my 960 2.5 petrol last century. Treg I think.
1970, bought a new bungalow on the edge of Cannock Chase £3750, joint income £105 / month, mortage £18 / month weekly shop at Sainsbury £5. In 1972 i bought my first new car, Ford Escort 1300 Sport, £940. So a new car back then was 25% the value of a new bungalow house or 9 x the monthly total joint income. The question is why are we in such a bad way today ?
I prefer the Continental WinterContact TS 870, the proper winter compound makes them perform well in the dry or wet too, see the test reports. Also they are well balanced, and consistent, better than pirellis.
quite often people take the rear driveshaft off to improve economy lol, Landover Freelander's are quite often missing always pays to check underneath when buying 🤭

This video is like the government chaotic 😂😂😂
Hi Geoff. Lots of XC owners remove the rear drive gear on the 70 & 90. It’s supposed to give a couple of extra MPG. Enjoy the motor!
Focus tddi 2003, 1.8L 100k for 595 gbp. Drove it mercilessly for 7 years, 100k miles and gave it away to friend 2 yrs ago, never spent a wasted penny on it, still get reports about mot passes and excellent running
Put a secondhand prop shaft on it Geoff, some people took them off for economy reasons.
ah, this morning I decided - well, Geoff makes some reasonable videos, I'd like to subscribe and watch more... and here is this episode 😂 nevertheless, it was fun to listen to and to learn a little more about the variety of English accents 😊
21:26 NOOOOOO IT'S HIDEOUS! 😂
Lovely sunset thank you Stuart!
The groaning as you turn the wheel is probably low power steering fluid. Every Volvo I’ve owned does that when the fluid is low.
Yup. Topped it up today 👍
@@GeoffBuysCars Your videos are so much better than the Macmaster clickbait rubbish who i unsubscribed from about 6 months ago
I had a 1984 A plate small switchable 4WD estate, only used the 4WD a couple of times in the snow. It was a Toyota Tercel 1.5 petrol 4WD estate, I had it when it was 8yrs old and I had a further 9yrs out of it.
Alot of people removed the drives shaft to help increase fuel efficiency
I watched untill 26:34 then you ended the vid...sounds brilliant that ovlov (was this vid done thru Starlink?) great 5x5
Great video Geoff. Just to let you know that my experience with Michelin Cross Climates is that they are great tyres but seem a softer compound and I've had more punctures with these tyres than I have with any other make of tyre, (and I've been driving a long time). Still, they do what they say on the tin, so to speak.
Fab dialect worth watching for that alone. And "Brakewells" on the tailgaiting truck........
I too have encountered numerous odd unattended “roadworks” which looked exactly like yours.
Sometimes they break up the surface, and dig a hole, often not.
I had a GT380 back in the 70's, best sounding bike on standard pipes ever made.
Like the bluegrass music👍👍
It is all deliberate the good thing is we now know onwards & upwards the great awakening ✨️👐
I agree about the Conspiracy about the traffic lights scandal!
I would still much rather have the Volvo !
You are joking about the Hyundai, right Geoff. It's feckin awful, I'd be impressed if a 3 year old drew it though.
Jeff my late friend used to tighten down his diesel cars getting more MPH Volvo was his favourite
Congratulations on the 150k Geoff, also why don’t you reinstate the 4wd?
Years ago I very nearly bought a 10 year old brown XC70, in fact I drove 200 miles down to Bradford to see it, but bottled out when the trip computer registered 19mpg…..all that 4WD gubbins comes with the weight penalty of the diff and axle from a 940 I was told.
21:26 It's vile.
That model Volvo was one of the best. If cars lasted forever, that or similar is what I would have. Loved my 960 2.5 petrol last century. Treg I think.
Fxxxxxg good video, love your style 😂
1970, bought a new bungalow on the edge of Cannock Chase £3750, joint income £105 / month, mortage £18 / month weekly shop at Sainsbury £5. In 1972 i bought my first new car, Ford Escort 1300 Sport, £940.
So a new car back then was 25% the value of a new bungalow house or 9 x the monthly total joint income.
The question is why are we in such a bad way today ?
You were two doors away from my cousins house at Fields Mitsubishi next door to the Dog pub.
That sante fe is bloody horrible.
White tank looks like a Chevy Suburban ish hehe!
That Hyundai looks like an American car
I prefer the Continental WinterContact TS 870, the proper winter compound makes them perform well in the dry or wet too, see the test reports. Also they are well balanced, and consistent, better than pirellis.
quite often people take the rear driveshaft off to improve economy lol, Landover Freelander's are quite often missing always pays to check underneath when buying 🤭
Wasn’t the Audi A6 all Road the original 4 x 4 estate car, or was it the 2.8 Sierra estate 4×4
There's no diesel engine in that subaru.
Watched until the end of the very end, as I said earlier, I normally do 👍
Check the transfer box, mine was whining, I got one for my 2001 CRV 2nd hand great car in the snow.
New Santa Fe. Is that the Lego version 😉
In my opinion, the XC40 reminds me of my 1984 5dr Volvo 340, especially the rear quartlight.
