    This is one of those videos that should be part of a "scrapping" playlist. Excellent, to-the-point, and encompassing explanation of brass that I think may be the first best general explanation on YT. Even talked about the scratch tests for brass! Thankyou!!!

    I have a chocolat color brass that I wasn't sure if it was bronze. This came from the frame of a Tiffany style ceiling lamp. Might be red brass as you say ! Good video.

    Most water meters are red rash I have two of them

    • @cuscrapping
      @cuscrapping 2 года назад

      Check with your yard on the water meters. One of mine has them classified seperately for less money. I am assuming that is for unstripped meters, which would make them dirty, but it is a better price than dirty brass.

    🤔 watching this video, I can’t help but to think that, while doing the scratch test, and seeing the gold colour to confirm, and putting the magnet on it to reveal it does not stick, how can one differentiate the brass from the copper..both can also be heavy, or light in weight, depending on the product..

    Is brass with solder considered dirty brass?

  • @nelsonf982

    Hi,I have yellow brass but it’s old and dirty from dirt? Is it clean or dirty brass?

    • @TinManScrapper
      @TinManScrapper  11 месяцев назад

      if it is dirt, just wash it. dirty refers to if mixed with copper, soddering, paint, caulking, etc. You might have a few pounds deducted if a lot of dirt and scale house worker believes there is a lot of extra weight from the dirt. But I would take the few minutes to clean the brass if it is really caked on, but you should be okay. Thanks for the question.

    Great vid superman.
    I almost had a pink fit the other day going through my brass fitting and odd n ends. Some are ever so slightly magnetic. They will pick up a small neodymium magnet, barely.
    What do you think.... Do you think this could be low quality or contaminated brass?

    • @colonialcharlie8702
      @colonialcharlie8702 2 года назад +1

      Stainless steel parts can stick to hardrive magnets and neodymium if they arent high quality. Is it brassy yellow when you scratch it?

    • @NOFX0890
      @NOFX0890 2 года назад +1

      @@colonialcharlie8702 yeah. Some of them looked like quality brass gas fittings. I almost lost my mind. Then there were the little brasstards that hold motherboards in computer towers. They were sticking too.... all i can think of is super low quality/ contaminated brass.
      Ill look again next week when i go back to it... get the file out. clip some of those little buggers in half too. Anything that picks up is getting segregated. Go to the naughty corner.... you little bastards.

    • @NOFX0890
      @NOFX0890 2 года назад

      Overkill...but im going to clarify some more... the harddrive magnet will not pick up the "brass" but the brass will pick up the magnet in certain places on the bigger gas fittings. Theyll also rock the magnet on a little fulcrum. There is so little magnetic force that the pieces barely hold and will fall off if i move the magnet. Theres no remnants of pipe or anything, theyre clean fittings. The little hex nuts off the motherboard are a lot lighter and i have to push the magnet flat for them to be picked up. Theres not much force holding them on either. Anyones thoughts would be appreciated.

      Red brass is a little more red in color. Probably best place to get is the water valve on hot water tanks.
