According to the few survivors of Treblinka; Ivan the Terrible was killed in the prisoner uprising. One person years later claimed to have seen Ivan the Terrible at the brothel in 1945 but this was never confirmed. More than likely he died in the uprising.

I just saw a video of a young woman who appeared to be in her 20's. The interviewer asked her who Hitler was. She said, "I don't know. Is he a hip-hop artist? Hitler would be a great hip-hop name." It is well known how this can happen from extensive studies. Dehumanization is a key factor in genocide. So it's not humans that are being killed. It's rats or dogs or subhumans. My Daddy was in a group who liberated one of the smaller camps. He was affected terribly the rest of his life. He didn’t talk much about it, but the few times he did, he mentioned how he’d never forget the skeletal condition of the survivors, the smell of the prisoners, and living with the idea that something that awful could be allowed to happen. When I was a small child, I learned how to wake him up from nightmares that shook him to the bones. We owe that generation such a debt of gratitude for what they gave to us, and the sacrifices they made for our freedom.

As a child living in Germany (dad was in the army). We visited Belsen even though I was young I didn't understand. I felt it was an evil place apparently it really distressed me. I can't imagine how dreadful it was for these poor people. Dante's hell is probably the nearest I could come to it . We should never forget. Those that deny should hang their heads in shame 😊

He was suspected of escaping to the USA, and a man named John Demjanjuk was suspected of being Ivan the Terrible of Treblinka. The series goes into the arrest and court case surrounding it. It's a really good series if you want further info on this topic.

My great grandpa was in Germany after World War 2. He married my great grandma (Polish) there and in order for them to be married they had to have a witness to their wedding. They met a young couple and they were witnesses to each other’s weddings since neither of their parents were there. Well turns out the guy that was witness to my grandpa’s wedding was Ivan the Terrible. Oddly enough, Ivan actually moved to Ohio and lived about 30 minutes from my great grandparents when they caught him. My grandpa is still alive (96) today.

From very early on we learned about what happened during WW 2. When I was younger it felt so far away. Also, I could not really understand the gravity of it as I wasn't really ready for it. We went through it multiple times in school and at some point it became annoying to hear it again and again. But today this hits totally different for me. As I grew older I began to see the value of each individuals life, the possibilities, the stories, experiences ... each life is its own universe. And they were killed in the millions. It takes my breath away. Last week I was at a memorial site in Vienna where over 60000 names of killed people were carved into stone. When I looked down the rows of names it felt surreal. All this for nothing. Insane.

I visited treblinka a few years ago when on vacation in poland and there is not much left of it qnd i know it sounds wierd but the enery in the ground there and in the air had was just the feeling of pure horror and evil

When I thought about it, it made perfect sense. Those people and the things that went there had to leave something behind.
I felt the same way in Sachsenhausen. It was by no means the worst concentration camp, but I had to leave the place after a couple of hours as I was literally sick to my stomach after reading about the horrors perpetrated there and just picking up the general vibe.

It was like forty of us kids all excited because we were going to our home stay family’s soon, and we were all laughing and joking but almost eerily one by one as kids stepped off the bus.. they got quiet and solemn. That place FELT heavy. You look at the trees and earth and all the old dilapidated buildings and you almost don’t wanna touch anything because it feels like you’ll catch its heaviness. I remember walking around and we were all saying “this place feels haunted”. But it didn’t feel haunted by the people, it felt haunted by the ENERGY if that makes sense. Like the people’s souls were long gone from there, but the energy was still there..

Although Belzec was less deadly than Treblinka it was still the third deadliest camp. Between 500.000 and as many as 600.000 people were killed in Belzec during its operation with the only other deadliest camps being Auschwitz and Treblinka as over 900.000 people were killed in Treblinka and over 1.1 million people were killed in Auschwitz. Also there were far fewer survivors of Belzec then at Treblinka as while between 60 and 67 people survived Treblinka only between 2 and 7 people survived Belzec meaning that the Nazis killed almost all of the witnesses of their crimes in Belzec. This is probably one of the reasons why Belzec is not as well known as Auschwitz and Sobibor and Treblinka as very few people survived to tell the tale of what happened in Belzec.

@@jfournerat1274 there was no misunderstanding, i knew that more were killed at other camps, but in belzec about 500,000 were killed within less than 9 mths right? and fewer than 10 survivors, what i find fascinating is that i always thought when the jews were going into the "showers" they were calm and they truly thought it was just a shower, but in treblinka and probably belzec, they didnt just go in calmly, they were beaten and whipped in, some were bashed, others stabbed and had parts of their bodies cut off, others had dogs set on them as they were being beaten in, so it wasent just a calm line up, and i also read when the men were gassed first, the women had to stand outside the gas chambers waiting their turn hearing and the cries and screams coming from the men, knowing it was their turn next, that would be so horrific

as a grandson of holocaust survivors i think im entitled to comment more on this, killing that baby by smashing its head on a wall was vicious and but in reality, he probably saved it even greater suffering in the gas chambers where death wouldnt take 1 minute like a head bashing it would take 20 min of horror and terror.

Fun fact: After the war about half a million of Ukrainian Nazis got refuge in USA and Canada. The plan was to use them in the WW3 against the USSR, since they knew the Russian language and were good killers with a lot of experience, they were seen as pretty useful for the US.

My Daddy was in a group who liberated one of the smaller camps. He was affected terribly the rest of his life. He didn’t talk much about it, but the few times he did, he mentioned how he’d never forget the skeletal condition of the survivors, the smell of the prisoners, and living with the idea that something that awful could be allowed to happen. When I was a small child, I learned how to wake him up from nightmares that shook him to the bones. We owe that generation such a debt of gratitude for what they gave to us, and the sacrifices they made for our freedom.

As a child living in Germany (dad was in the army). We visited Belsen even though I was young I didn't understand. I felt it was an evil place apparently it really distressed me. My great grandpa was in Germany after World War 2. He married my great grandma (Polish) there and in order for them to be married they had to have a witness to their wedding. They met a young couple and they were witnesses to each other’s weddings since neither of their parents were there. Well turns out the guy that was witness to my grandpa’s wedding was Ivan the Terrible. Oddly enough, Ivan actually moved to Ohio and lived about 30 minutes from my great grandparents when they caught him. My grandpa is still alive (96) today.

From very early on we learned about what happened during WW 2. When I was younger it felt so far away. Also, I could not really understand the gravity of it as I wasn't really ready for it. We went through it multiple times in school and at some point it became annoying to hear it again and again. But today this hits totally different for me. As I grew older I began to see the value of each individuals life, the possibilities, the stories, experiences ... each life is its own universe. And they were killed in the millions. It takes my breath away. Last week I was at a memorial site in Vienna where over 60000 names of killed people were carved into stone. When I looked down the rows of names it felt surreal. All this for nothing. Insane.
Seeing the one male prisoner at 7:11-7:19 really broke my heart. All of this does, but you can see the fear in that man's eyes as she trembles.

What kind person while fighting for his country, against the enemy, gets captured, but then elects to work for the enemy terrorizing, torturing, and killing on behalf of said enemy. I visited treblinka a few years ago when on vacation in poland and there is not much left of it qnd i know it sounds wierd but the enery in the ground there and in the air had was just the feeling of pure horror and evil
@@powerkingez9682 I’ve heard that from others, too. That when they even got to the gates, something happened. One lady I talked to said she got so ill she vomited and couldn’t even go in. When I thought about it, it made perfect sense. Those people and the things that went there had to leave something behind.
I felt the same way in Sachsenhausen. It was by no means the worst concentration camp, but I had to leave the place after a couple of hours as I was literally sick to my stomach after reading about the horrors perpetrated there and just picking up the general vibe.
I know what you mean. I went to a camp in Italy. It was like forty of us kids all excited because we were going to our home stay family’s soon, and we were all laughing and joking but almost eerily one by one as kids stepped off the bus.. they got quiet and solemn. That place FELT heavy. You look at the trees and earth and all the old dilapidated buildings and you almost don’t wanna touch anything because it feels like you’ll catch its heaviness. I remember walking around and we were all saying “this place feels haunted”. But it didn’t feel haunted by the people, it felt haunted by the ENERGY if that makes sense. Like the people’s souls were long gone from there, but the energy was still there..
It's truly sickening how these people were treated by such barbaric individuals(can't call them human as they sink WAY below that distinction)

@@mikemeeks8436 Did you happen to notice that William Calley died last week? Now. That was a perfect case of lots of things-War As an excuse for brutality. Using orders from your commanders to commit any atrocities you like. And even one more that I cannot name, but existed-how normal people changed drastically so fast and followed Calley’s lead, burning, raping, killing, even the babies. These were guys that 5 months prior would never had considered brutality like that, but they saw it. And started doing the same things themselves even they knew right from wrong.
Was it a simple case of following orders? Or something more sinister that possibly we all have? Will something like this happen to any of us in that circumstance? The bigger travesty came when Calley spent no time in prison, lived a nice long life in Georgia with a wife and kids. I cannot help but wonder if his conscience ever bother him? Nightmares? PTSD? Depression? He never really talked about it, but when he did, he had that smirk of his that made me want to smack him.
I had to stop watching the video shortly after 9 minutes in. This is truly horrific and my heart aches for the victims. Whatever happened to this man at the end of his life, it was too good for him

The horror of Treblinka is just mind numbing and to think Belzec was apparently worse.
Although Belzec was less deadly than Treblinka it was still the third deadliest camp. Between 500.000 and as many as 600.000 people were killed in Belzec during its operation with the only other deadliest camps being Auschwitz and Treblinka as over 900.000 people were killed in Treblinka and over 1.1 million people were killed in Auschwitz. Also there were far fewer survivors of Belzec then at Treblinka as while between 60 and 67 people survived Treblinka only between 2 and 7 people survived Belzec meaning that the Nazis killed almost all of the witnesses of their crimes in Belzec. This is probably one of the reasons why Belzec is not as well known as Auschwitz and Sobibor and Treblinka as very few people survived to tell the tale of what happened in Belzec.

@@jfournerat1274 there was no misunderstanding, i knew that more were killed at other camps, but in belzec about 500,000 were killed within less than 9 mths right? and fewer than 10 survivors, what i find fascinating is that i always thought when the jews were going into the "showers" they were calm and they truly thought it was just a shower, but in treblinka and probably belzec, they didnt just go in calmly, they were beaten and whipped in, some were bashed, others stabbed and had parts of their bodies cut off, others had dogs set on them as they were being beaten in, so it wasent just a calm line up, and i also read when the men were gassed first, the women had to stand outside the gas chambers waiting their turn hearing and the cries and screams coming from the men, knowing it was their turn next, that would be so horrific

Hirtreiter was arrested very early over participation in T4 euthanasia program. Under interrogation he also talked about his work at a death camp near Malkinia (Treblinka) which at the time no one knew anything about.
as a grandson of holocaust survivors i think im entitled to comment more on this, killing that baby by smashing its head on a wall was vicious and but in reality, he probably saved it even greater suffering in the gas chambers where death wouldnt take 1 minute like a head bashing it would take 20 min of horror and terror.

That guy ended up in Detroit as an autoworker survivor of Treblinka recognized him during the trial he was found guilty in Israel. Appeals court overturned it because another witness was too old had dementia got confused. The one who was still sound mind he looked at him up close jumped back in the trial said it was him.

Fun fact: After the war about half a million of Ukrainian Nazis got refuge in USA and Canada. The plan was to use them in the WW3 against the USSR, since they knew the Russian language and were good killers with a lot of experience, they were seen as pretty useful for the US.

A very interesting video. My discussed almost overwhelmed my curiosity, however. It is remarkable how evil some people can be. They must have a lust for power which is satisfied by these horrendous acts. So sad. This could/is certainly happen again, given human nature.
