My husband is deceased now, and he also thought in Vietnam. I do so appreciate the men that were in that war, and all the other wars that we’ve had in this world. Thank God for our soldiers. I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps. Whenever I get down I play this to perk me up. I was stationed at MCAS El Toro which is no longer a base since 1989 I believe. Best years of my life.
My Grandfather passed away a few days ago. I will be honored to hear this play at his funeral. He joined the Corp in 1954 and attended boot camp at Camp Pendleton. Then got shipped all across the Pacific.
I served from 1978 to 2008, P.I. plt 3031. I've been retired a little while now, but our Hymn still makes me light headed every time I hear it! Semper Fi Marines
While a member of the US Navy I had the good fortune to become a Hospital Corpsmen. I became not only good friends with many Marines but worked with them. That was back in the 1950 's. I then and now have the highest respect for Marines. They are the worlds best. If the US has a problem send in the Marines they will take care of it.

Jan 5, 2020: I dedicate this to Sgt Manuel R. Martinez, 23, of Albuquerque, who was killed in a car crash on Aug 22, 1975 south of Santa Fe. He was a Marine with a shy grin, warm heart, gentle spirit and a strong work ethic. Manuel was returning to the city after a long work week at the Farmington, New Mexico mines, when he rolled his 240Z Datsun. He trained at Camp Pendleton and served a year in Okinawa. He wrote often....I fell in love with him by the time I graduated from high school. Unfortunately, my mother didn't like him and kept us apart most of the time. Needless to say, I did not handle his death well. *For God did not send his Son Jesus to condemn the world but to save it. John 3:17 Blessings, KATRINA
There's nothing like a man in a Marine uniform. They have the best looking uniforms out of all the military branches. My husband was a medic in the Navy and, since the Marines are a branch of the Navy, he was stationed with them. My cousin was in the Marines and he was very proud of it. God bless them all and thanks to all in the military for their service.
I remember the words to all the songs when I was in 6th grade we put on a festival in our small community with all the military songs and actually all of the music from that time
"SEMPER FI" means "Always Faithful", and not to bought off politicians and sleazy war profiteers, but to THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION and the AMERICAN PEOPLE. Keep your SOLEMN OATH, Marines! Your Nation is counting on YOU to STAND AGAINST TYRANNY.
My father landed on Iwo Jima on D-Day February 19, 1945, at age 17. He was severely wounded on March, 15. He never talked about it but wrote out his recollections a few years before his death in 2010 - thank goodness. I have it for my grandchildren - proud as hell of that man and the Marines - all tough as nails. Great arrangement.

I served R.O.K.M.C class 212 from April 1969 to Dec.1971... 702 graduated but only 250 or less discharged. Through this page,I'll pay my respect to all marine brothers&sisters!!!
I am the brother of a retired Marine officer who also volunteered to serve beside US Marines in the Fleet Marine Force as a platoon corpsman. My heart swells with pride every time I hear the Marine Corps hymn. Semper Fidelis, Marines. Doc out.
I too marched to this hymn at PI in August 1968. I am and always will be a Marine. Oorah!!! Semper Fi to all fellow Marines past, present, and future. I have been in the company of some real bad axx female Marines. You have the warrior spirit!!!! With honor, I salute you!!! Cleve
My father was in the 2nd and 4th Divisions. He fought at Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He is in the combat footage “With the Marines on Tarawa”. He had just turned 19 the month before. He has two Purple Hearts for the wounds that took him off the line. I know for fact he was wounded more than twice. He just wouldn’t leave his fellow Marines. That was common among his generation as I’m certain is as common even today. I joined the Army but I always tried to exemplify what my father instilled in me. You Marines always.have a special place in my heart. When I hear the Hymn I think of my dad. When I watch the combat footage of Tarawa I can see him again. God Bless The United States Marine Corps. Thank you dad for protecting our freedom.
When I was a kid (70 now) I learned the words to all the Armed Forces "hymns." I think we just did that in public school back then. I'm not saying that's good or bad, just interesting. I never learned the Coast Guard hymn if there is one, but I certainly know and love "Eternal Father, strong to save." I'm a church musician, so I'd better know it!
Bix No, Bix. I graduated from high school in 1963, got married in '65, graduated from college (BA English) in 1967 and went to work as a social worker. My first husband was in the National Guard, my second in the Coast Guard, and my third in the Air Force and stationed in Viet Nam. That's enough husbands and military.
Gail you are my mom's age...when I went to school I had the most patriotic music teacher. I still remember her name to this day, Mrs. Brown. In her class we learned every patriotic song that you could possibly know. Now, I am teaching my children the same. Sadly, it's not done in schools today.
I plan on joining the Marine Corps when I graduate. Whenever im at a store and i see a veteran and i have to run over to him and thank him and shake his hand. Ive been wanting to join the Marine Corps ever since I was a 3rd grader im a 10th grader now. Only 2 more year until I join the Corps. Semper Fidelis Forever.
I am a USAF veteran. I'm old enough to have been in that war - we don't talk about anymore. In all of my time as an American, nothing is more reassuring than knowing there's a US Marine ready to stand and protect me & my family.... Semper Fi!
(Unofficially) Speaking for The Great State of Louisiana, I'd like to Thank You and your fellow military brother for y'all's patriotic honor and sacrifice . I pray that All y'all are blessed with a very happy, memorable, and safe 4th of July. God bless you.
I can trace my Marine family history back to the Civil War and have a Marine family member who served in every major war. I used to go see the Marine Corp band with my grandparents all the time until their death. So proud of my country and the Marine Corps!
My father, my grandfather, and his father all served in the Corps. Great Grandpa went off to fight the Japanese and died on a white sand beach with the sun shining. He died doing what he wanted to do. Grandpa fought the North Koreans in a war no one cared about. He still has Communist shrapnel in his upper legs. Then he fought the Vietnamese in a war everyone hated. He has a glass shard in his upper back. Not from combat, he got off his plane, hugged his mother, and kissed his wife. And didn't see the long-haired man in a tie-dye jacket swinging a bottle at his head. My dad enlisted in 1977 and went through college on the G.I. bill. He was never in a war, but he still was willing to die for this family and his way of life. That's what this country was founded on. And it's what's kept this country strong for as long as it has. And, God willing, it will keep our country strong for another 200 years.
MY ADMIRATION FOR YOUR FAMILY. GOD BLESS. BROTHER IN mARINES..WENT ON SPY MISSION.COULD NOT TELL US FOR TEN YEARS. IT WAS IN THE 50. .SUCH COURAGE SHOWN BY THESE MEN. CHRYL COLEMAN
My son graduated OCS at Quantico in 2017. At the end of the ceremony, all the graduates sang the Marines' Hymn off-key and out of tempo with the band, but the enthusiasm and gusto of the singing, and the epic nature of the song, still sent chills down my spine. God bless the United States Marine Corps.
Every unit I was in (3/9 81s platoon, wpns Co and 3/2 81s, wpns co) was always the last unit to go past the stands in a "pass in review" and as such the Marine Corps Hymn always started as we approached the stands. Always made you March a little smarter, snap your head to eyes right and ready front and in general try to look like the best unit on the parade deck.
My husband was in phu bai Vietnam and he was a green beret staff Sargent and special forces. Got purple heart, silver star and bronze star. We wish all past, present and future good luck and thank for all they have done
Me being the only son, my draft number was very high, I graduated from HS in 73, now I am old but at 61 I still have my draft card, and would still answer the call if asked, To those that have served and are now serving, the pride you feel is yours and yours alone, God bless you
My dad had a high draft # too. I wondered for a long time why he never got called for the draft in Vietnam so I finally asked him after 38 yrs. That's why lol. He turned 18 late into the war(Jan '70) so there was already lots and lots of people ahead of him yet to be drafted.
Well, Blazer6248, I WAS one of those who WAS drafted in 1970 - I chose to enlist in the Corps, instead. One of the BEST decisions I had ever made! Plt 3021 Parris Island. Graduated 24 Dec 1970. ('70 -'74) . . . and I'd do it all over, again, if I could! 3:22 3:22
My father (John McLaughry) was on Guadalcanal (for the Mosquito Bowl), and later, at Okinawa. Like many of his generation, he was humble about his role, but attributed everything to his men. Mo cheol thu!
I’ve never heard the marine corps hymn before until recently when I had to play it for my school concert on Veterans Day. Feels great to play such an amazing piece
British Admiral, Horatio Nelson, referring to the acts of the United States marines for burning the Philadelphia - "The most bold and daring act of the age"
My father was a Marine during the Korean war. He was a proud veteran, and loved the Marines. He always saluted them, every time, he saw one. My father passed 9 years ago from Pancreatic Cancer. Every time I see a Marine now, I have to thank them for their service, and tell them my father was a proud Marine Veteran.---Miss you always Dad, Love Eileen
I remember singing this song in elementary back in the 60's. Made me feel very nice to be apart of my country! This is what was instilled in me and I am so glad to be an American!! My grandpa served in the U.S. Army, as well as my husband and brother; my dad served in the U.S. Navy. May God continue to be with our nation and continue to protect her from her enemies!
Greatest Country on Earth? Did you know, that in the last ten years 60000 Veterans died by their own hand? That´s more than US-Soldiers died in Vietnam. Did you know, that a big count of veterans is homeless? That they lose their wives and kids? Seems, you don´t know these facts. Otherwise you would not write " proud to be an american".
My grandpa was a Marine, and was in the Vietnam war he served In the war for two years and almost re-inlisted until he met my Grandma and decided not to, he is currently 72 and living a very good life, he always makes sure that me and my family are happy and once he is gone I will miss him alot, he is my hero and I hope to be like him one day.

I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps. Whenever I get down I play this to perk me up. I was stationed at MCAS El Toro which is no longer a base since 1989 I believe. Best years of my life.

Nice of you to share your experience.

I left the Marine Corps in 1964 and the hymn still fills my soul with pride .

My dad had a high draft # too. I wondered for a long time why he never got called for the draft in Vietnam so I finally asked him after 38 yrs. That's why lol. He turned 18 late into the war(Jan '70) so there was already lots and lots of people ahead of him yet to be drafted.
