Recently my niece has a baby and her mother in law came from india to America and through out her pregnancy she didn’t let my niece work as she is a paediatrician. After baby borne and my brother’s family visited my niece her in laws said we are going to stay in hotel for a week she is your daughter she can tell her problem to you freely.

Same here dear. My older one is 7. Younger one is 4. I teach them the lesson of equality. Ask them to pick up their own plate. Sometimes they help me in the kitchen. I suffered a lot. I don't want my daughters in law to face the same.

I relate so much to this. I was given an ultimatum to either say with my in-laws or my parents when I visited. My parents who came to receive us were treated poorly by my in-laws,. This happens in even highly educated families. Glad I don't have to deal with it anymore. Respect goes both ways. Wish everyone worked like this to make them understand rather than repeat what they did with old rituals.

I thought that the moment the MIL advices her son to go stay in his wives house, the climax would be to become a good MIL but the anti-climax which explains how the MIL had gone through the same emotions as her DIL is marvelous & heartfelt.
