ICRPG is the bomb, and its creator is the real deal. Thanks for pointing people to this incredible community Baron!
My heart is warmed that the countless high quality non-DnD TTRPGs are getting the attention that they deserve.
DOUBLE NANNER!
I need more Baron + Bob
Baron the Bob
Bob is top tier. His content is fun, informative and wholesome af, haha. Very different style of content from Baron, but just as great.
You seriously got my favorite RPG RUclipsrs for this, other than Hank and Baron of course! I guess I've got a type (lumpy headed weirdos 😍)
Thumbnail looks like a blurry ICRPG. Great game. Quick, action-packed, and rules-light.
...Did you just not wait 18 second for the reveal?
@@jothewerewolfhe made this comment while still in premier.
Baron, thanks to this video, I got a digital copy, and let me tell you, as a game designer turned youtuber, I'm super impressed by how ICRPG is set up. The book is a breeze to read as well. I compared it with other indie stuff I've bought, and it's really a cut above the rest.
I'm also a sucker for some goofy charm, and the personality really resonates through the book. The rules light design philosophy really meshes well, and it looks to help facilitate that proactive role play forever GMs love to see.
I am very excited to explore ICRPG more and maybe make some content in the future. 🤔
Sick burn on Jeremy Crawford 😂🔥
I was a lot more impressed by calling out Williams, whatever his design talents, I’ve never seen anything that would indicate Crawford had a hand in this OGL Mess.
I will admit to at least 3 "Oh no he didn't"s whole grinning ear to ear.
Looks good, maybe in the end this OGL stuff is a blessing in disguise. I'm learning about incredible worlds to look into :)
Absolutely. DnD has gotten enough love (and probably still will). I'm thrilled that the work of others' is finally getting recognized
Love to see you repping ICRPG. Been a longtime fan, member of Runehammer's Patreon, and huge fan of Hankerin since the Drunkens and Dragons days. ICRPG is a great alternative to D&D and I happy to see such an enthusiastic and genuinely good hearted creator get some more of the spotlight. Even when I don't run ICRPG, I take so much of the GM advice from it, in combination with Hankerin's general advice through RUclips and his podcasts over the years, and I apply them to the GM facing side of everything I play.
Had to flip through several ICRPG vids before I found yours, which doesn't have 3 minutes of weird skits and humor and just gets down to what the video was actually about. Thanks for keeping it clear and concise.
Runehammer is the man, and his shield wall is the best...
That's what you get when you go with people, not a soulless corporation
I love that ICRPG is getting attention! Just fyi- it plays great on Foundry!
Can confirm ICRPG and specifically the Hardsuit setting/campaign is next level. Especially for DM / Playstyles that are more improvisational freeform. Also the books are just damn fun to read.
Hard Suit! Hell yeah!
Runehammer got me back into TTRPGs after years away, and you can hack any setting for ICRPG, from LotR to Ninja Gaiden! Great game, even better community.
That Jeremy Crawford rip is a level 20 vicious mockery at full damage. Damn...
I should have known this guy was a lumpy headed member of the Shield Wall. Love ICRPG, great way to get to the action and keep the whole table engaged.
A perfectly timed video that I can inject into any conversation about the OGL changes.
Don’t forget Knave which is the one I’m most curious about. Your Loot determines your character I’m told. So it sounds like Munchkin RPG hah
Thank you for explaining "attempts" and "effort"! I listened to a couple other Dungeon Tube content creators and came away baffled. You are clear and concise as always, again thank you!
Hankerin has been my spiritual mentor for my dungeon master career since he has only 2k followers or so. One of my biggest enemies is Moloch based off his Moloch high fantasy campaign series. With him and now you as my two inspirations my games have definitely improved ten fold
Finally an explanation of ICRPG that really sells the system. I'm sold!
Loved the cameos! Great video as usual!
Excellent summary of the system! With the tables and guidance included in the rulebook, a session can be designed in minutes. Loot as character development and leveling is a game changer.
The worlds longest, academic-est shade, evar!!! Nicely done.
ICRPG is the GOAT.
Can we get more RUclips crossovers? Loving when you have guests on!
But... Bananas come in all different shapes and sizes. Which one should I choose?
The one that represents you best ;)
The longest of course 🍌
Great game with a wonderful, wholesome community of players and creators! It really deserves to keep thriving and growing!
Holy crap this looks and sounds amazing. I am double-nannering over to the website right the hecc now.
Thanks for the details. I'm sold.
Our playground switched from 5e to ICRPG almost 5 years ago and we never looked back. It’s worth trying out to those on the fence.
ICRPG is a great system especially for DM’s. You can easily design any type of encounter you want for your players by using the encounter DC system. I’m using it in my Keep on the Boardlands game and my players love the fast pace of it.
RAISE ONE FOR THE RUNEHAMMER. ......AND THE RUNEHAMMER ITSELF.
05:05 As a GM, I like to roll the Death and Dying Die in secret to add tension...
ICRPG and its community is just an all round joy to be part of - I strongly recommend Hank’s (the creator) podcast “The RPG Mainframe” as well for incredible insight and wisdom on GMing and life in general!
Nobody else notice that 15-3 != 13 as in 2:20?
Or that the d8 for magic and energy was a d10. Baron has been stressed.
I read through the ICRPG rules a few months ago and it looks really good. Haven't had a chance to play it yet, but with the OGL mess, I think that will be changing soon.
the cameos gave me a smile
I’ve had the second edition for some time of ICRPG. Irregardless of how the OGL goes, I’m trying this next, I like the simplified rules, no more wasting time looking up randomness. I love all the different worlds and artwork as well. I just still may use things other than index cards. 🤷♂️
The Baron comes our swinging and just $#!+ all over the terrible writing in the DMG. 🤣 love it
I love this. I would love to see you review more TTRPG's
I love copy-pasta, love ICRPG and love the "Baron".
Cool cameos from Bob and Kelsey.
I just finished a 6 month dungeon crawl using ICRPG with one brand new player and a few higher level veterans. It was a ton of fun, and ICRPG is an absolute joy to run at the table. Once you grasp the core concepts, it gets out of your way but gives you all the tools you need to make consistent decisions in the moment, no matter what your players throw at you.
Don't pigeon hole it for dungeon crawls or one shots either - I've run RP heavy city adventures, space heists, and war scenarios with it, and I have players reaching level 5 now. If I could only have 1 RPG book, it would be ICRPG Master Edition.
ICRPG and Hard Suit are my go to TTRPGS to GM and play, and make it a breeze to run my actual play games!
RUNEHAMMER and its community are extremely welcoming, supportive, and generous with their knowledge!
If you're still unsure, go try the Quickstart rules, you won't regret it 😉
Oh lawd shots fired at 7:09! Great review, great pitch. Shields up!
I already own the Softcover 2nd Edition, but I'd like to get the Hardbound Master Edition of ICRPG... I may be looking into that acquisition in the upcoming months.
Thanks for covering this!
It's really great! Check your FLGS, if they carry Modiphius they probably have it.
Is there a big difference? Amazon carries the 2nd ed., but if the Master Edition is better I'd rather get that one.
@@CalaveraSancho Porque no los dos?
Mainly price difference... Master Edition is a significant price difference, especially because it's hardcover.
It was on sale for $40 on Amazon last night.
Love ICRPG, glad it's getting attention. I do prefer EZD6 (also published by Rune Hammer) and can't recommend it enough. Moved my DND group over recently to great success.
I think the room target simplifies the game enormously, almost like the old Dungeon board game expanded to any alternative actions. The idea of time limits also helps kick the players up the butt to get them moving forward 👌
Timers and always running in turns are 2 massive improvements to game pacing that you can really apply anywhere, to any system. So many innovations from this game that add a ton of value without adding bloat.
If you like ICRPG, another great rules-lite RPG that might excite you is EZD6. The rules are definitely more dissimilar from regular DnD than ICRPG, but that doesn’t stop the game from feeling right and playing really well. A ton of fun!
Thank you, Baron! I literally watched this and then sent it to about 6 friends that have been looking to change game systems for "no particular reason" currently and they've all loved what you said and showed. It's well thought about and gives an explanation of the system. I would love to see more videos like this... Viking Death Squad, EZD6, Dungeon Crawl Classics, and Shadow of the Demon Lord are games I've heard a bit about but a video covering them like this would be nice to see before I drop money on them since I'm a single father so disposable income is tight and I don't wanna buy something I may not like.
Keep up the great work!
ICRPG is super awesome. I’ve run games using many systems and this is one of my favorites.
ICRPG may be the best TTRPG that I have bought in years. It is super fun, very adaptable to every kind of setting you can imagine and you need roughly 15mins to talk fresh players through the rules.
And the artwork is astonishing. I absolutely LOVE ICRPG!
Regarding all the d8 magic effort edits - That's a recent rule change with I think ICRPG master edition, d8 used to be for both guns & magic, reserving the d10 for rolling as percentile on loot tables.
I also use d8's for heavy weapons like great swords etc. in my Alfheim-set game. Makes for fun tradeoff's when considering a shield.
I'm currently run a campaign of ICRPG, can confirm this is a fantastic version of a D&D style game without all the extra bloat of WotC's game.
Great vid! Thank you!
ICRPG is the best framework I’ve ever read to build a game from. You can play it straight out of the box as written, but the power curve is freaking wild and some of the mechanics are purposely under explained.
You’ll have to put some work in home brewing if you want a mid or low power fantasy setting.
GURPS is also really cool. It truly is universal.
It has a reputation for involving a lot of math, but that's usually only for trying to see how to fit different settings together (if you are trying to block a superlaser from a Star Destroyer with a divine wuxia technique as Sun Wukong, for instance, or if you want to build upon a mindslaved dragon to create a spaceship). Within a given setting, the complicated parts (which also aren't that complex, just long) get zeroed out, leaving you with a reasonably simple and straightforward system. And if you do want to take the kitchen sink approach later on, you can always do so after the fact with relative ease, and even see how that new Starship Troopers style space marine compares against your party's wizard.
If nothing else, understanding GURPS is like understanding Chuubo's in that it will help you get more out of the games you play, even if you never actually use their system.
I watched the creators videos years ago and thought he was a cool guy and very passionate about both his game and ttrpgs in general
That necktie straight fire bro
I see why so many people said you should show this off, I'm super excited!
8:05 you had me at Copy-Pasta
I'm swirling ICRPG, Shadowdark, and ideas from The Big Old Vault of Relics and Curiosities together, and getting a OSR game I'm pretty pleased with. My players have growing interest as well. I've been tinkering with ICRPG's zones in 5th Ed, Savage Worlds, and Feng Shui for a while, so the players aren't totally new to that concept, which I think is the hardest thing for grid-combat players to adjust to and accept/embrace.
Baron, have you considered doing a similar video for Savage Worlds? I think that's another strong contender for "not D&D" alternatives.
Big fan of your channel consider me subscribed. As my first comment as a subscriber I would like to say this. Something good happened and I am happy for you all. However a dragon doesn't change its heart only its plans. The parent company and the company that offered 5E on a silver platter do so purely because its a loss they CAN afford. There is no winning. Only a perpetual fight to keep and guard our imagination, our money, our hearts and our perspective. Nothing lasts forever but dragons live a for a very long time. Hopefully slaying THIS dragon by moving to other game systems and taking our money with us will not only embolden the next generation of TTRPGers but serve as an example ringing throughout EVERY business ethics classroom that THIS WAS NOT OK!!! WHAT THEY DID WILL NEVER BE OK! Finally I would love to see and I pray that someday the same zeal and unity I shown by in the community across the board comes together again to address other atrocities in the world. Fight the dragon and NEVER become one!
Oh, man, I have been super hyped on ICRPG this year and it's great to hear people talk about it. I only wish it had a better name. We've been playing my own setting in this game mode and my players still call it D&D lol
Lol love the burns, and also the cameos
Any system that uses bananas for scale has my full attention...
I recommend two rpg made in Italy, I write them in Italian: l'ultima torcia , l'ultima bomba , they are really good
Are there translations for these games available?
My personal favourite is the german Splittermond, but there is no english translation available....
@@einCAA unfortunately probably not, but if someone knows Italian I highly recommend them , I know it's stupid, but since there are pdfs, maybe with a translator they can be used , there is also the game fabula ultima, it's really nice, it's a jrpg style game, fabula ultima , this game have english
Don't forget, you also boost your effort for ICRPG as you would an attribute.
great shout out
Arbitrarily coming to this video's comment section to recommend using GURPS
The most homebrew friendly system.
It has dungeons, and spaceships, amd spaceship dungeons, and multiverse teleportations, and wizards, and psionics, oh my.
I ordered the paperback version of the ultimate edition, before all of the hullabaloo about the OGL.
It has been my bedtime reading the last few weeks and I'm definitely enjoying it.
If any of you are interested Arandel is an alternative old school ttepg available on Amazon.
how this D&Debacle might have started:
WotC: releases books of questionable quality.
also WotC: starts hyping fans for their new D&D edition.
Hasbro: "why aren't ppl buying our new D&D books? it must be because of those Kickstarters & 3rd party publishers who use the OGL!"
Now that i’ve read ICRPG, I take back all the doubt i casted at this video. ICRPg absolutely rocks.
Hankerin's great - but having tried ICRPG, I just found it to be a more-too-reduced version of the already too-reduced current edition of D&D. Ideally love something that's in between D&D 3 or 5 and The Dark Eye or GURPS Fantasy, with some substance and more simulationist consistency to the task resolution rules, and a bunch of mechanics for running guilds or towns and merchanting and allies and patrons and contacts. And ICRPG goes in the opposite direction of all that stuff.
Special Thanks notes Runehammer, which means ICRPG.
However, BoBWorldBuilder's favorite is DCC and I do not think he plays ICRPG.
It is not PF1 or PF2 since they CURRENTLY both include the OGL.
So my guess is ICRPG and/or DCC.
However, I hope it is a united front for SotDL - which I believe for a d20 class-base system has the better player creation and the boon/bane mechanic.
P2E doesn't include OGL. They are pretty clear on that.
sotdl is pretty cool too. Excited for "shadow of the weird wizard" later this year
@@nicklikethesoup I have the book on my shelf and OGL 1.0a is printed in the back.
I know they are GOING to change it, but if you purchase PF2, OGL 1.0a is currently printed in it.
Of course, I am sure they will be removing it.
SHIEEEEELD WAAAAAALL!
Thanks for creating this “pro-active” content. Many of us want a break from the controversy surrounding WOTC’s unethical machinations, but we also need these viable alternatives as we dump WOTC/Hasbro/Sauron.
ok damn that opening, after the week or 2 we've had--- just broke me had to stop and rewatch twice, and write this before moving on -- its a banger in the first 10 seconds!
Every gamer loves a sharp dressed man.
This looks cool going to try it
I like everything you said here. Just messaged and got some confirmations from my players to try out a few sessions 👍
There is a free quick start to try before you buy (but its worth buying for the GM advice alone)
Just what I was looking for.
Epic win for ICRPG!
*Howling* ROOM DESIGN
Love ICRPG! Good stuff.
Played a session of ICRPG a few weeks ago, was a grand old time!
Okay, okay. I bought ICRPG
Some bananas are longer than others.
Drunkens and dragons is a legend. I have ICRPG and its a great system. my version only has 3 settings.
You have invoked the ICRPG and hath earned my subscription. Do not fail me, Man!!
ICRPG and TinyD6 hit my table the most often. While ICRPG is most definitely "loot-based" that's what I find fun about it.
Even when I play other systems using TURN dice, Room TNs, and EFFORT is something I can't unlearn. Super useful and agree - best GM section out there.
Interesting find!
Looks cool, I might be provoked to look it up
yes, IC RPG for the win!
Love icrpg. I'd like to meet Hankerin one day.
I've been enjoying Runehammer's content for years, and bought his book and card deck as soon as I heard that he was publishing the deck. He's come up with tons of great ideas that every GM should know about.
About the license debacle, I think it's rather pointless. WotC can't win a lawsuit against anyone based on their license (no, I don't need to see a judgement from a court to know that). It goes against the spirit of copyright law, which exists to give creative composers the opportunity to profit off of their own work. If you created a scenario for D&D, the fact that it's made for D&D doesn't make it WotC's property unless you sign the rights away to them.
Most copyright lawsuit threats can be undermined by requesting an affidavit from the lawyer that argues the copyright infringement claim. No lawyer would ever send one, because affidavits are signed under oath, so the lawyer would be risking a perjury charge if it was read in court.
It looks like the vigilante city stuff was ripped off from a game system made by Bloat Games of the same name, They used the same font and art too.
2:25
Now that's what I call math.
ICRPG IS MY FAVORITE TTRPG. Fast action and intuitive rules keep the players engaged. If you don’t know of Runehammer or Hankerin you have got to check out his RUclips channel. His dungeon master how to videos are pure gold especially the older content from several years ago. Hankerin and ICRPG are legendary!
HF is just an amazing and inspiring person, as well.
Destiny Quest solo game books uses this loot-is-build mechanic.
if we learnt anything from WOTC, "no intention to revoke" means diddly squat.
