This is my favorite song. It sounds unlike anything I've ever heard. It's the only song that's dark and creepy but also feels like a dreamy fantasy movie without having to get too psychedelic. Even feels like a reggae song the way the guitars strum along to the bass.

Robert Smith is so creepy. That's what makes him so awesome. There will never be another CURE.
I worked in a hotel in Harvard Square in Cambridge when I brought room service to him. He still had the makeup on. It was after his show at Boston Garden. Good thing I was a fan or I would have been freaked out. He was very soft spoken and gave me a great tip.

This song is NOT about MOLESTATION!! It's is about drug addiction. Robert Smith himself has even said its about addiction and the director of the video said its "allegory of Smith's druggy past". If you know anyone with addiction and have seen them come off of something...you can see the likeness of the lyrics to their detox.
Im guessing Heroin or some kind of opiate. Cant get out of bed, withdrawing for 4-7 days. I'm dope sick right now. If there is a devil he invented Heroin.
Randy G I was chasing the dragon, but now he's chasing me......im also detoxing at the moment and going totally nuts. Keep strong and fight. I feel you. Love from Holland.
That's sad. Great song, though.
I 've tried fent patches and yes they're strong. I just chew a piece and I 'll be gone unless I'm shooting a lot of dope at the time then I need more than a little chunk.

Dunno why, but I somehow find this song incredibly relaxing.
Same it soothes my anxiety or "cures" it
Same...like Incubus "aqueous tramsmission"
It’s the melody. Such a masterpiece of juxtaposition. The melody is soothing but the lyrics are anything but..
At 3:05 the horn coming in is brilliant and classic Cure sound.
Song doesn't appear to be affected by time.
There's a story that Robert Smith tells about this song, one about his uncle telling him scary stories as a kid that involved a flesh-eating "Spider Man" that hunts down children. One night, the uncle decided to crawl into Robert's window while he was sleeping because apparently he just thought it was funny to scare him...
I honestly believe there's a LOT more to the story than what he's told out loud, and that something far more traumatic happened between him and his uncle than him just "thinking it was funny to scare him." Just really listen to the lyrics and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about...
yeah im p sure its about r//pe
This makes so much sense now…

Ahh. Love these guys.
I will say, this was one of the most unsettling music videos I've ever seen. It is definitely a very artistic piece of media, though.
Like, it's almost unnecessarily creepy. The gothic edge of The Cure is essentially parodied in this video, and overblown for an artistic effect. I don't find it necessary, and I liked the subtlety of the Lovesong music video that allowed this aesthetic to show without overwhelming the audience.
Yes the music pulled me in, so alluring. Then I realized what it's about and I felt sick inside (but that doesn't stop me from listening to it a full blast)
This was one of the most unsettling music videos you have ever seen? You have lived a very sheltered life.

On candy stripe legs the Spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim shivering in bed
Searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
Suddenly
A movement in the corner of the room
And there is nothing I can do
When I realize with fright
That the Spiderman is having me for dinner tonight
Quietly he laughs and shaking his head
Creeps closer now
Closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are all around me and his tongue in my eyes
Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more
For it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The Spiderman is having you for dinner tonight
And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold
And the Spiderman is always hungry.

So true.
That guitar in the intro is just spine tingling..aaauuughhh man...CLASSIC
so atmospheric, take me back to the 80s, such good memories, music, clubs etc., everything about this era of indie music, great memories
i'm gonna be 41 at the end of the month, so I was fortunate enough to be old enough as a kid to enjoy the 80's. My only bone to pick with you is that indie rock was not indie rock til the mid-90's. That'"s how I feel, anyways. it is like when people say Nirvana invented grunge I get all hot and bothered because they forgot about one group that came before them and started it and burned the fuck out on crack, heroine, and tyrannies in space boots. Have you figured it out? If you said Jane's Addiction, you are correct. After Nirvana , then came the rest: Sound Garden, Pearl Jam, Creed, and Im so sorry about the book I just sent ya, holly shit, man. I gotta lay off the addies. Who did you have in mind for indies? cause the rest was punk and big-hair cast-overs from the 70's and 80's.
This is new wave though..
Johnathan Crespo you’re actually very wrong about who started grunge.... the first band to get a major record label signing was Soundgarden, than motherlovebone and then it was Alice In Chains.
Johnathan Crespo gets your facts straight because you are ignorant.
Mother Love Bone with Andrew Wood was the original Seattle grunge band that formed from 80's hair bands. AIC's Would, Temple of the Dog and much more are all dedications to him. Layne, Andrew, Chris, Scott, all worked together at the Music Bank and used Heart's recording studio. Pearl Jam with Gossard and Mccready is simply MLB lite.
