African Soul International Presents: Balanta

Balanta, a dance choreographed to represent the Balanta people of West Africa, is a warrior dance. During the time of European colonization, the Balanta people were among the fiercest defendants of their land, managing to be one of the only groups that did not have its land usurped by Europeans and they still live outside of country borders. We encourage our youth to be like these people and fight against prejudice, poverty, ignorance, and obstacles.
