    Assuming the eBay listing is accurate, this thing ONLY has band 5 for AT&T and is missing every other AT&T band. AT&T band 5 LTE is actually unavailable in some markets and/or it's been moved entirely to 5G, giving this phone limited coverage aside from areas that have band 5 LTE, so buyer beware.
    With that being said, I think, personally, I'd still recommend the S22 flip over this for anyone in the U.S. or Canada, assuming good coverage is important to you.

      Are they stupid? man why do they keep making bricks like this.

    • @CrossStix
      @CrossStix 3 месяца назад

      @@devzozo Cost savings. At least in America, most people I know expect dumbphones to be dirt cheap, so the manufacturers cut corners where they can to keep the price down.
      Adding extra bands means a more expensive SoC and/or extra radio "equipment"/antennas. This phone, for example, is only intended to be sold in South Korea AFAIK, so why spend the extra money for proper compatibility in other countries?
      The only exception to this, that I am aware of, is newer Sonim phones, like the XP3Plus. It basically has every band necessary for worldwide 4G compatibility, while still being relatively competitive price-wise compared to similar phones.
      It's the same way with smartphones. Generally speaking, the cheap ones have limited band support, sometimes only working with a single carrier, even when unlocked. While flagship phones these days often have near-perfect worldwide 4G compatibility.

    • @CrossStix
      @CrossStix 3 месяца назад +7

      @@devzozoTo put it simply, cost savings.
      Furthermore, international phones like this aren't intended to be sold and used in North America.

      Someone needs to come out with a Japan Keitai style S22 flip in the US. Yeah it's a niche market but I think the aesthetic will gain enough traction on TikTok if they market it right

    • @CrossStix
      @CrossStix 3 месяца назад

      @@AffyisAffy My take: Unfortunately (IIRC), Kyocera is the only Japanese manufacturer left with an official presence in the U.S. However, as they announced last year, they were completely pulling out of the consumer smartphone market to focus exclusively on rugged smartphones, and in the U.S. they now only exclusively release rugged dumb phones as well. So I'm not so sure if they really care so much about normal consumer phones anymore, even in Japan.
      Maybe if enough people annoy/beg Kyocera on social media and/or if big, very popular influencers promote KeiTai and also plead with Kyocera to release them here, but I'm not so sure if big influencers really care that much.
      Alternatively, the Japanese manufacturers could simply include more bands in their Japanese market phones, increasing gray market imports. But that would probably raise the cost of the phones further, when Japan is already dealing with its own economic issues at the moment.
      So with that being said, I'm not super hopeful, but you never know.

    "The CAT S22 Killer" naw, I love the S22 I spent the last year and a half throwing it at stuff as hard as I can and it still works! No, I'm not mad. I simply chuck it because the sturdy build is awesome the phone is good as an android phone too and I actually beat Sonic Advance 1 & 2 via MyBoy emulator on my CAT S22. Cool that another flip phone exists, but I am so happy with CAT S22 Flip

      Just an FYI, but generally speaking, any phone that works with T-Mobile VoLTE, should also work with AT&T MVNOs (MVNOs don't enforce a whitelist).
      To be more specific...at least in some areas depending on bands, so long as it's unlocked. AT&T and T-Mobile mostly use the same 4G frequency bands, albeit with different priorities in different areas (furthermore T-Mobile notably adds band 71, which AT&T doesn't use on 4G).

    - At 04:46 you say that it has "a little bit more limitations" than the Cat S22. What exactly would those be? From everything you mentioned, it would seem more like the opposite - this one has a bigger screen, it's bigger overall...
    - Which Android version is it running?
    - Is it available/will it work in Europe?

    • @CrossStix
      @CrossStix 3 месяца назад +2

      Looks like it runs Android 12 GO from the eBay listing.
      It should run reasonably well in Europe, certainly better than the U.S., overall. That being said, I'd recommend checking what bands your particular carrier and/or country use; they can vary to a degree. Find out what the primary and/or low-frequency coverage bands are and compare them to the eBay listing, that will give you a better idea regarding coverage.
      This phone notably lacks bands 20 and 28 (for Europe/Asia), which could be important or even critical for coverage in some countries (depending on the carrier as well).

      It looks like You're in Australia, though, so I don't know. Do import European and/or Asian models usually work with Wi-Fi calling there? The answer to that may tell you whether it will work on this phone. (I assume it probably supports it in some capacity, on some carriers, being Android-based).

    • @CrossStix
      @CrossStix 3 месяца назад +1

      @@Tom_KowalczukYeah, that's basically how it works in America as well. But at least sometimes I think it's more to do with phone "programming" (at least on T-Mobile US) since hidden menus, Pixel IMS, etc. can sometimes force enable it. Regarding AT&T though, my best guess is that they enforce a certified whitelist for VoWiFi in addition to the other crap. Since I've yet to get it working on AT&T.

I imagine he lives in an area that has reliable band 5 LTE, probably an urban area as well, if I had to guess. That doesn't mean it will work well for everyone, though.
      For example, AT&T's primary coverage band is 17/12 (band 12 encapsulates band 17), which this phone completely lacks. So that means zero coverage in any AT&T areas without band 5.

      It only has band 5 LTE for the US. So unless you live in Myrtle Beach, SC, you'll get no coverage whatsoever on T-Mobile. (The ONLY area where T-Mobile uses band 5).
      Check my other comments as well, even if you're considering AT&T.

      @@stinky_lizard MVNO is a smaller service provider using AT&T Towers, examples of some of these are: Cricket, H2O, PureTalk & US Mobile. You can search online for a full list of AT&T MVNOs.
      Just take note that not all MVNOs use the same bands and I haven't seen enough documentation as for which of them specifically work, all I know is that an AT&T MVNO - albeit not sure which one- is the only working option.
      My phone will be arriving in the next couple of days, I have a US Mobile Dark Star Sim card which uses AT&T network, so I'll try to check back here letting everyone know whether it worked or not.

    will this phone work with verizon in the united states?

    • @CrossStix
      @CrossStix 3 месяца назад +1

      It's not Verizon certified. While there are ways around that, it lacks the primary coverage band for Verizon, band 13. So probably not recommended, unless you want to "sacrifice" another Verizon certified phone to get it working and still deal with limited coverage only on Band 5.

      @@CrossStix Theoretically speaking, how would one go about said process?

    • @CrossStix
      @CrossStix 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Coles-bootleg-vids Well, the easiest way is just to have a Verizon SIM that's already activated in another phone, then switch it into this phone. That should work on Verizon MVNOs, but may not work on Verizon proper or brands owned by Verizon like TracFone. Essentially, the original Verizon-certified phone that was used to activate the SIM will remain registered on the network, so it can't be used at the same time as the uncertified phone on the Verizon network.
      Furthermore, just to be clear, there is no guarantee this will work, it may also need the Verizon VoLTE profile baked into the firmware. However, this does seem to work on most of the newer international phones.
      There's one more way, but RUclips might delete my comment if I say.

    • @CrossStix
      @CrossStix 2 месяца назад

      @@Coles-bootleg-vids The other way is changing/cl0nlng the lMEl @nd also MElD sometimes (this is spellled wrong on purpose) of the certifiedd f0ne. It's actually leg@l in America for purposes like this, from what I read (I'm not a l@wyer though) and you'd need special software tools to do it.
      This is basically the only option for Veriz0n proper last I checked, since they're really anal about kicking uncertifiedd f0nes off the netw0rk.
