I paid almost $900 to get the timing belt done on our 2010 impreza and then only 1 year after install it snapped. I asked the mechanic and it's not OEM. I'm really distraught about this b/c it clearly causes serious damage and really only thing to do is new engine everyone tells me. Why on earth are cars made with these belts nowadays?! If one belt fails, causing so much serious damage. I'll literally never buy a car with a timing belt ever again!!!

Thank you for the update. This is everyones nightmare.
Can you talk about how this will be resolved? Will your business insurance cover damages and will you be able to recover costs from the belt company? How is customer made whole and compensated for lack having a car all this time.
Its obviously not your fault. I just want to hear how this real situation plays out.

Whenever I have an engine with bent valves I pull them all out to check them. I have seen valves look fine but had very slight bend.

Do you need to do anything to the pistons or just send the heads to the machine shop?

    Hello and great video!
I bought a 2004 Impreza 2.5L turbo wagon that had the original motor pulled and replaced with a 2.2L from an unknown Subaru model. The kid pulled the 2.5 and put the whole 2.2 with its intake and manifolds into the car. It is difficult to start and when it does start it backfires a lot and has very poor power and stalls also. Someone online thought I should swap the 2 cam sprockets and crank sprocket to fix the issue.
Assuming the motor is good, since he bought it from a local reputable Subaru mechanic, should I remove the old 2.5L's two cam sprockets and the crank sprocket, and put them on the 2.2L block? I have the old motor, everything but the heads.

Anyone had a belt break and no damage to valves?

Like Subaru compared to Toyota, this channel is similarly analogous... Peter has worse camera work here than on his Toyota channel.

This issue was caused because he fitted a new belt only, just 500 miles ago.
A belt do not rips apart of no reason or of age.
You can replace water pump and tensioner and bearings, but if you want, reuse the old belt again without worries !

Yeah the hydraulic tensioner in the first video he posted shows that it moves freely up and down with no tension on it at all!
What good is the lock pin to hold it open if it has no hydraulic pressure holding it open?
      None!
The belt failed because that that hydraulic tensioner is N F G!
The belt was a symptom of the fact up to this point he clearly still has not identified the CLEAR CAUSE OF THE FAILURE!
NO HYDRAULIC PRESSURE IN HYDRAULIC TENSIONER!
But that's just a minor detail!
      lol

This happened to me recently 2001 Subaru ej25 single overhead cam just replace the belt to ensure that this wouldn't happen as a full kit and an aisin kit at that to ensure this wouldn't happen
It happened within 2000 miles of complete quality kit
There are trade mechanics an yt talking about this being an issue with the Subaru tensioner for them

This just happened to me yesterday... I was on the highway going about 75 when it snapped... I heard a clunk and lost power, and I immediately knew what it was. My timing belt only has about 30k miles on it, but it was a cheap one off the internet. BUY OEM BELTS GUYS!!
