I give it a 5/10 because of the boldness, originality, emotion and the handful of songs that are some of Cudi’s best. Its almost like a messy painting that will end up in an art gallery one day.
I think that if you've been through heavy times in your life you might see the beauty in some of these songs. If not, you might not get it - and that's fine. I very much appreciate that he had the courage to release such a personal album that was obviously going to alienate a good portion of his mainstream fanbase. The world needs more artists with that kind of integrity.
Idk I've been through quite a lot in my life and while there are a handful of songs that I can pull from the album and enjoy, most of it comes off as very surface level drivel stretched out waaaaay too long. I also just hate Cudi interludes. The Beavis skits are already annoying on the face of it but then you get the typical Cudi interlude where he just goes "IM SO COOL IM DOING THINGS NO ONE ELSE DOES IM SO COOOOOOL" that just bugs the fuck out of me. Its taking the typical bragadocious nature of hip hop and somehow making it way more brazen and uncool. Is it a 0? Nah, but its not that gr8 either. I love that he stands by his record and I'd never take it away from people who love it but I hate the whole "if you don't like it you dont get it" mentality
yeah I never understood why the album got so much hate like yeah the return of chip douglas is an abomination of a song but I find myself really enjoying the grungy tunes and energetic and personal vocals and I haven't even really suffered from depression. The Beavis and Butthead skits slapped on the end of some of the songs is really annoying though.
a lot of the time, a depressed person will reminisce on a previous time in their life as a form of escapism. the sounds and sketches are just him trying to relive a past moment, around the 90s, to escape the present moment
fr, it’s so personal and one of my favorite cudi albums. i can relate from some of the songs and some of them have even helped me mentally whenever i would have some bad days
Speeding bullet 2 heaven may not be Scott’s best album but it is the most memorable to me. Edge of the earth, Handle with care, wedding tux, speeding insides out, & bullet 2 heaven (acoustic demo) is Scott expressing himself during his darkest times and that’s what most of his audience can relate too. Speeding bullet 2 heaven will always be in my top albums of all time.
While I never want to take the position of “you just don’t get it” when somebody doesn’t like an album, I never understood the people that say this album has zero merit, or that it’s truly one of the worst albums they’ve ever heard. Like sure, I get why people would hate this but to say it’s one of the worst albums ever made honestly just sounds like they haven’t heard that much bad music, idk Great vid!
SB2H is Cudi's best album. Not my favorite Cudi album. His BEST album. There is evocative song after evocative song. You go manic, depressed, cry, feel empty, feel too much, it feels genuinely dangerous in a way most artists could only dream of. It's so personal. Even if the odd lyric is a little silly (fuck the chicken sandwiches line) the lyrics are so unique, whole, and personal, and yet still universal. Handle With Care makes me sob uncontrollably. The minimal production works. I hate how every artist's most interesting and often best work is usually hated by them because it got a bad reception. Fuck the reception, Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven is awesome, 9/10 on a BAD DAY.
@@ArtoverCrackClouds you can acknowledge something being the best because of it's meaning, production, time and effort, popularity, etc, having a favorite doesn't = best
This album really is one of a kind i think people really missed the message of the album and since it did the sound like anything else he’s ever made they look down on it. Theres a lot of songs on this album especially SB2H that got me through dark times myself and I couldn’t relate to any other artists music more at the time. Either way my favorite cudi song of all time is Heart of a lion ❤
It’s brutal on the ears and it really shows the visceral spiral of Cudi’s mental state, but that brutality isn’t a negative feeling for me, I think it only enhances the experience. Strong 8 for me. Love this album
I'm a big Cudi fan, kinda fall into the "saved my life" stuff even though I wasn't depressed, I was going through hard times so I appreciate the dark themes, depression and mental health that Cudi brought into Hip Hop, almost NO ONE had done that, specially coming out of the bling era. That's why MOTM 2 is his best album to me. Now, Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven was a tough listen for me, but I appreciate and respect the album a lot. I hate to be pretentious like this but this album is one of those cases where you gotta understand the artist comes from it, to an outsider it seems like "He's on an echo chamber trying to revive grunge" (Looking at you Fantano) when in reality he was screaming for help, it's one of those cases where you gotta be kinda of a hardcore fan to like/understand the album. And now that you mentioned a cult following and appreciation in recent years, this reminds me heavily of Eminem's Relapse. Both artists made an album while they were on a really dark time after their jump to fame Both artists fell into drug relapse and felt horrible about it Both artists did something extremely different than their usual music (Cudi went grunge, Eminem did Accents and darker horrorcore) Both of their albums have little to no features (Eminem has Dr Dre in 2 tracks, but he was also producing the album) Both of their albums were EXTREMELY hated on release Both of their albums have gained a cult following after a few years SB2H does not need to be enjoyed by everyone, but deserves some respect. Again for me, I don't hate the album, I like it (6/10) and I think it's better than Satellite Flight or Passion Pain & Demon Slaying And since you talked about them I might as well give my opinion on Indicud and WZRD, they were fun listens to me since most Rap-Rock fusions always led to absolute garbage. (look at the early 2000s) Those albums are what I wanted from the rap-rock concept.
To me the chicken sandwich line is about what he's going to miss out on. (in the event he does in fact, "take" the Speedin' Bullet to Heaven (i.e., suicide.))the line before it is another thing he'll miss when dead. "Paying for the damages" to me means paying the cost of his funeral. I guess I just don't understand how people don't relate to this on an artistic level. Vulnerability and honesty will never not be punished by society at large.
Bought the cd at BestBuy when it came out. If the riffs he made on Speedin Bullet were so “simple” someone else would’ve been done it already. The record was ahead of time. It’s helped me even get better and serious with my guitar playing
I don’t like the album, but at the same time, i understand it. Music is not just for what people think of it, but it’s how u express yourself. Cudi was clearly in the worst time of his life while making this album and who knows, maybe this album saved his own life just as MOTM1 did for millions of people
Love any shoutout to Niandra LaDes, tho it should be clarified that John actually wasn’t on heroin for the recording of it minus one of the guitar solos, it was primarily recorded while RHCP was working on Blood Sugar Sex Magik and the subsequent tour. Same applies to Smile For the Streets You Hold minus a couple absolutely harrowing songs like “More.” Still tho great video and channel, love the one on James Ferraro
I rate it like a 2 out of 10 but despite that I absolutely love it somehow A lot of people sat the instruments are too repetitive but that’s one of my favorite parts I love the repetition If the demos and stuff at the end plus 2 or 3 other tracks on the album and all the beevus and butthead skits were cut off(this would cut off like 40 minutes of the album out of the hour and 31 minutes lmao I added it up before) it would be a couple points higher and much easier to sit through too Imo
i actually liked the album off of the first listen.. like i found few tracks and skit annoying but there are a bunch of highlights that are worth appreciating
It was also kind of because they weren’t ready for something so lofi with a tonal shift. People didn’t look at it from a open mind and they immediately hated it. Look up any reaction or review from when the album came out and they all hated it
No, it's just simply not for everyone. It's a very raw and gritty sounding record, and a lot of people just don't mess with it. Fantano gave Swimming a 3, and everyone hated that. Not everyone is a dickrider
That project is a direct state of mind of his at the time, not really an album (imo). I was a bit bummed out when it first released, but listen to it on one of your very low days, and BOOM it clicks more. I always respect an artist that's really testing themselves even if it doesn't do well with the audience
I would really love to see a video on sematary. If you don’t know him already, he makes “black metal rap” inspired by black kray and yung lean. He’s like chief keef both in his music and appearance. He is the leader of the collective haunted mound which began with him and ghost mountain. Eventually gm quit music to “focus on school” as haunted mound grew to several rappers and producers. I believe he is incredibly ahead of his time and soon many people will sound like him.
One of the most undeserving overhated albums. Of course Cudi's vocals at times on certain tracks are kinda unberable and Beavis and Butthead skits are kinda cringe but it's not as bad as most people were saying. There are some really good gems in it. IMO 4/10
I don't think it sounds that bad, maybe because i usually listen hyperpop, so musically don't get the hate... But also i can't compare bcs its theonly Kid Cudi album i love and listen...
I'll disagree on the praise because though it begins in a very interesting way with edge of the earth and confused... But when you get to something as wonky and hard to not laugh at as adventures which kills the album (not just the chicken sandwich line though it is the only thing that is slightly engaging.. the rest of the album could be raps answer to nirvanas in utero but I wouldn't know because it was just.. frustrating
Lol it’s not “supposed to sound like depression” it IS depression. This album isn’t supposed to be listened to like a it’s just a song. Your meant to experience what he went through if you’re in a similar depression state, and heal with him.
@@acedubb Okay and the music in question sounds like absolute ass. Regardless of intent, if I’m down with it, and if most people aren’t, then you’ve done something wrong.
@@AnyThingWorx ? If you like the album and others don’t then that’s a problem for the artist? I’m not understanding that part. I didn’t understand until I went thru something similar and he’s right almost all of the songs on there expressed how I was feeling at the time to a T, and was more therapeutic then it was just listening to a song.

I like to look at the skits as comedic relief as well. Since the album is depressive they are also there to lift the mood a bit.
I just wish they were their own tracks. The fact that they're stapled onto the end of already long songs was always an odd choice to me
One of my all time favorite albums don’t care what anybody says

I don’t like the album, but I do agree with this take
because Fantano hates it, therefore we must collectively all steal his opinions.
yeah normally people don't go out of their way to listen to bad music so I think it's more a matter of expectations
I've only heard the first track on the album and it sounds like something that would be bolded on RYM if it was made by a small indie artist
