What does the signal look like when the sensor is faulty but not totally dead? Are the pulses shaped incorrectly, or missing some pulses?

By knowing what a good sensor looks like any anomaly will indicate a problem is the sensor, wiring or computer. Corners where the signal switches on and off when not square can indicate a transistor switching problem, missed or dropped square waveforms can indicate a sensor, trigger wheel, wiring or computer problem or waveforms that don't reach the full voltage value or don't drop all the way to near zero are all indications of a problem. Thanks for the question.

@@DrivelineMaster that makes sense. I had to have my cam position sensor replaced a few years back. The car didn't want to start, it would long crank for like 20 seconds, then it would run rough and misfire randomly, very poor performance and randomly stall. I drove it like that for about a year before I could afford to get it fixed. The shop said it was very bad at that point. They couldn't get a signal from it at all and they were not sure how it was starting. They guessed the computer used the crank position sensor as a non precision fall back option.

These videos are all done using a little hand held oscilloscope called the uScope. The uScope is sold by AESWAVE.com. www.aeswave.com/1-channel-scopes-c462/. You might like to view my 2 part review of this scope. ruclips.net/video/AoWWVk5NTes/видео.htmlsi=v4_N48pxI_XLNf08
