  • As we reach half-way through our top 100 tarot decks, in this episode I cover classic decks between 1976 - 2004. We cover the much maligned "The Tarot of the Witches" and the rather more authentic "Romani Tarot" and "Druidcraft Tarot". We also discover the ground-breaking "Motherpeace" circular deck.
After 45 years of esoteric and occult work, here are my top 100 tarot and oracle decks, in this episode looking at positions 41-50. We particularly look at what could be considered "classic" decks from the late 1970's to the turn of the century.

Wow, Thanks the Actual Magician for this presentation,
    Accurate and intelligent.
Much appreciated and loved, as usual on this site.
May this new golden nugget be enjoyed by as many as possible.
Hanson-Roberts, Tricia Newell's Mythic Tarot, Gill Tarot, Druidcraft Tarot and her big first edition book are great values.
Tarot of the Old Path is one of my go-to decks.
Thank you for this lighting 🙏

@@MarcusKatzAuthor Thank you very much Marcus Katz for the reply, everyone knows the enormous contribution of your work
in the book "Secrets of the Waite-Smith Tarot" notably 🙏🙏
I recently bought the "Black & White Rider-Waite Tarot Deck" by Jody Boginski Barbessi and I was overwhelmed that the elimination of the colours changes and enriches the cards so much (yes I know I'm a 9 so bear with me) 😉
Thank you for all your insight.🙏🪔

Very nice presentation, and brings back happy memories of being first introduced to tarot in the late 80's by a neighbor who read with some of these. But her favorite and most treasured was the Mythic Tarot. As far as video requests... your mention of having a deck to show it's own favored way of being read sounds very intriguing, and I would love to see a demonstration! ❤

Thank you! Yes, the 80's was its own space for sure! The Mythic Tarot is rightly a "classic" deck and was very popular - I wonder if it still is as popular? Thanks for the encouragement for a "how to talk with your deck" video, I'll bump that up the schedule! Thanks! Marcus.

Thanks Marcus, for another tarot deck presentation. This one greatly surprised me....out of the ten decks, I have 8 of them in my relatively small collection. Including my favourites, the Morgan Greer and the Druidcraft !!!
I shouldn't be surprised, because the time period you covered was probably the time period I was besotted by Tarot and Kabbalah, and also spent time with the Rosicrucians in Melbourne. Not that they were into Tarot.
I appreciate you describing the difference between tarot decks that 'work' well for readings, and for immediacy, and those decks where you love the concepts and ideas behind them, but the
actual images are a bit lifeless for you (personal response). I really wanted to love the Mother peace tarot cards, but I loved the idea of them, not the actual images. Same with the first Jungian deck I owned.....I imagined I would be led into more psychological realms with the images, but alas. they remained an intellectual exercise for me. But I have loved the journey and the exploration with all my decks, even the disappointments.
The Morgan Greer was gifted to me in the early eighties, it was the second deck I owned, and it's still the deck I use most today. In the same heavy blue silk wraping. That exact same deck plus a backup plus a mini version that goes with me in a tin, cos 'you never know',
I'm looking forward to your next presentation,
Blessings, and many thanks, and solstice greetings to you! It's winter solstice here in Australia,
    Judith

Thanks for the response, Judith, it is very much appreciated! And a Happy Winter Solstice! The 80's was such a creative time in many ways and that I guess was reflected in the tarot of the time. I'm glad you feel the same about working and 'appreciate the art/design' decks. The Morgan Greer is an absolite classic, glad you found it to be your deck! Marcus.

The Arcus Arcanum Tarot, reminded me off the 2000ad comic color artwork. I like the Druid Craft, feel's very inviting. Quick question, when you are doing reading's and you have cards that jump out, would you have any belief or superstition, or just re-add it to the deck. Thank You for the video.

Yes, the Arcus Arcanum is a very particular style of art. It is not surprising also that there are quite a few tarot decks drawn by graphic novel/comic book artists, as they are used to providing a lot of sequential art in a short time-frame. As to cards being dropped, I sometimes do read those, and sometimes put them back in the deck, depending on how it "feels". If I feel that I have just been clumsy, I put it back in the deck. It's more of a feeling than a rule, in this case!
