  • Alex Murdaugh's attorney Richard Harpootlian laid out his case for the possibility that two gunmen killed his client's wife and son at their South Carolina home in June 2021. "Two guns, two shooters," Harpootlian stated while grilling Agent Melinda Worley, an officer who collected evidence at the crime scene, about the possibility of two killers.

      There is little specificity and continuous focus in either the questions or responses--a lot of pauses, roundabout questions, then vague responses with little specificity. And there is a lot of time spent on where things are in relation to the victims, the guns, the shed, the feed room, etc. I would find it irritating and frustrating if I were a juror. Does the criminalist know the angle of the shot from the AR or does she not? The defense lawyer was suggesting/stating that it came from some point fairly high while she hemmed and hawed and suggest, vaguely, that it might be lower. It is not clear from her responses if the angle is know. She's got one number in her notes and another number in her official report. I think the defense attorney should be sharper.

The position of his Mom's body presents a question as to who was the first to die. Also she had multiple wounds, from differing angles of entry. Many unanswered questions that need explanation.

    The crime scene was trampled by law enforcement with no regard for possible footprints. The surrounding 1700 acre property was not thoroughly checked for possible entry points onto the property, such as cut fencing and tire tracks. The woods surrounding the immediate crime scene were not searched for possible evidence such as more casings or the firearms themselves. The 300 blackout shell casings could be easily staged and placed closer to the body. The problem with shell casings being ejected as the main source for the location of the shooter is no cases will eject the same way. In this case, the angles of the shots and the wounds in my opinion would infer that the shooter was in the woods. The current prosecution's chain of events has Alex shooting his son 2 times with a shotgun then switching weapons and then firing and killing his wife from 1 shot from the shoulder and 2 shots from the hip. Hip firing with a 300 blackout would not be very useful even with close proximity to the target and accuracy is not on your side. If you have seen Alex's firearm collection it would make no sense for him to fire from the hip after shooting from the shoulder once. From crime scene data the two victims were not far from each other within 15 yards. This entry investigation proves how law enforcement will pigeonhole a crime on a person even when the evidence proves otherwise. My thought is that 2 shooters entered the property one stayed in the woods as a watch out for anyone coming on the property and the other went for Paul. I believe that Magie came as soon as the first shot rang out and the woods shooter engaged her. Alex Murdaugh is not a good person he is a thief and a liar, but the evidence, in this case, does not point to him also being a killer.

Seems like a big stretch.

    • @susanbell1430
      @susanbell1430 Год назад +8

      I agree with you about the theory, it sounds weak. The likelihood is that it was for money. His wife wouldn't sell the beach house which Alex had already used as collateral to borrow money from the bank, and his son was about to go into court and likely be found guilty in the boating incident that killed a young women, which could have ended with a massive settlement. I think they should have followed the "follow the money' defense.

      @@susanbell1430 Did they attempt to outline their theory of the case/motive today? Agree the sympathy angle is weak. But the money angle doesn't make sense, either. How would killing his wife and Paul help mitigate his financial problems? He's still got to pay off any bank loans, yes, and he could still have to pay a big settlement to the victim's family in the boating accident, yes? Paul's death doesn't end his liability, does it? The estate is his.
      I can see him, in a completely stressed, confused and panicked state of mind, as his life as he knew it was collapsing around him, becoming angry with his wife and son--his wife for not selling the beach house and whatever other problems they may have been having (and I suspect they were having other issues), and his son for causing him lots of aggravation and problems over the years, culminating in the boating accident. Perhaps he just got fed up with Paul and his wife and cracked--exploded. I wonder, too, if the very real prospect of having to pay a major settlement in the boating accident case prompted him to steal money from his law firm. Just a guess. I haven't read for how long he might have been embezzling funds.

      Then the prosecution witnesses should address it and not try to avoid the question. It is reasonable to investigate the possibility of two shooters if two guns were used. They had to have known the defense would ask about it. If they investigated and ruled out two shooters they should be ready with the facts to prove it. Avoiding the question raises doubt that they looked into it which also helps defense in rush to judgement claims and raises reasonable doubt on whether he is guilty or not.
