- Before 56-7, before 63-17....there was 45-0. On a chilly November night in Columbia in 1989, Danny Ford broke out the orange britches for their first road game, and rookie head coach Sparky Woods was introduced to the domination that so many Gamecocks before and since have come to know so well. As Woods and injured QB Todd Ellis both watched helplessly from the sideline, Clemson utilized a dominant rushing attack led by Terry Allen and a bevy of sledgehammer fullbacks, as the Clemson offensive line pushed Carolina's defense halfway to Bull Street all night long, stopping only to celebrate their touchdowns. Not to be undone, the Clemson defense unleashed the full force of its legion of linebackers and linemen, as Levon Kirkland and Vance Hammond turned garnet and black to black and blue while consistently setting up shop in the Carolina backfield.
In what would prove to be Danny Ford's last entry in the Palmetto Bowl series, the Tigers created a manhandled masterpiece that has lived in infamy in Gamecock lore and proven to be one of Clemson's finest moments in a rivalry that has featured many high points for the good guys. Clemson would go on to similarly destroy West Virginia and QB Major Harris in the Gator Bowl to close out their third consecutive 10-win season and end the Danny Ford era in earnest, but even with the Gator Bowl annihilation and similarly dominant display versus Bobby Bowden in Tallahassee earlier in the season, 1989 will always be remembered as the year that the Tigers put on their orange pants and turned the lights out in Williams-Brice Stadium. Not until 2003 would another partisan Gamecock crowd clear out of their industrial park so quickly with the realization that the more things change, the more they stay the same. As Tiger Rag serenaded the unwashed masses of garnet and black on their way out of the stadium, a faint "never again" could be heard somewhere in the orange echoes of time.

This was a good old fashion Ass Whippin'!!
🙋♀️🏆🏈 🧡💜 I have a picture of Danny Ford standing on the sidelines in the game of 1989 with a smile in his eyes, arms folded and his tongue stuck out just watching the tornado and carnage. He had a great game.🥰🌪🌪🌪🔥🔥CU-45 SC-0
Todd Ellis is everything Trevor Lawrence is... except talented and a good dude...
I remember this like it was yesterday..
I remember that 45-0 my bro's freshman year at Clemson
This was the last time I was in Columbia for the rivalry, classless fans and awful environment!!! The ass whooping made it worth it
Todd Ellis is a broken man.
Todd Ellis was injured and didn’t play.
FANTASTIC!
My little league coach was Carolinas quarterback😂
My first memory of Clemson/USC was one of my first memories overall. My father and uncle took me to one of the first games that I remember,I think it was 1980,someone let a chicken loose before the game,it ran all over hell and back.Someone stepped out and kicked it like a 45 yard field goal.Feathers flew, people went berserk,my uncle leaned over and said “we just won before kickoff”. Bellucci for life.
It was only a few days after this horrible performance by my gamecocks that the Taters ran Danny off, putting their program in the shitter for the next decade
Jackpot, three things:
1- By "horrible performance" you make it sound like the coots ever had a chance. Not so much.
2- In the 18 years between Ford and Swinney, if my source is accurate, Clemson hung a 13-5 record on the coots. If we were in the shitter, where were you?
3- Since you're watching Shadow videos, just wondering if you watched the 63-17 video from 2003? If not, please do and confirm/deny that your ugly mug (with permed mullet) appears.
Barry Spencer 1. There’s always a chance
2. I may have appeared in the video but it wasn’t behind an ugly mug, I have stellar movie star good looks
@@CarolinaJackpot CJ the movie star!!
@@CarolinaJackpot The only movie star that provides 2 answers for 3 very clear questions. Jusy sayin......
Who’s in the shitter now
I had a Gamecock fan wanted to bet me $2 a point on the spread straight up and I passed him up! Talk about a brain fart!!
