With the amount of pets you have its best to keep your house and renovate it or just buy a different house. Because no apartment is going to let you have 2 dogs and a bunch of guinea pigs and rabbits. They will considered it as a kennel/boarding/hoarding you can could lose them or lose your home.
I definitely don't recommend an apartment with the amount of pets you have, and especially not disclosing them! Sticking to a house is best for the amount that you have and the privacy and freedom you need to do what you want with your pets and any future ones or fosters you may have. A rental company or landlord could easily find you online with your youtube and instagram presence. Another thing to consider is the amount of laundry you do with washable bedding and if landlords want their laundry machines being used for primarily small animal and rodent bedding. Also the amount of garbage you have from cleaning cages and the amount of hay you purchase and bring into your home... neighbours and landlords are going to notice those things quickly. Why is the new tenant bringing bales of hay into his apartment and always coming out with full trash bags? Another thing to consider is the easiness that is opening your back door to let your dogs out anytime of the day vs. having to get yourself together and walk out of an apartment building to the closest patch of grass.
I have to agree. I think a 2 bdrm house for you is better. No trying to tell you what to do. But you don't want to get kicked out because of the animals. Just saying some landlords and apt owners can be real mean.
Way too risky to take an apparat without disclousing the pets, what if they found out and he gets kicked out, where to go, where take the animals. Is he seriously considering this? I understand if he may not afford a house (not many young people do) but at least a rental where they are okay with pets.
Hey Austin. Here in the UK so many people are rehoming piggies because they get them while renting, then the landlord finds out threatens to kick them out if they don't get rid of their pets...so sad. They do 6 month or annual inspections, or when someone comes to fix something in rented accommodation, people will see your animals and probably tell the landlord. I personally offer a pet deposit before renting a place, if they say no then it's not the place for me and my babies. It's better to be honest and tell a rental agent or landlord before moving in. You don't need stress and neither do your fur babies 🧡
Hi Austin, I live in an apartment, and I was very stressed when I didn't disclose that I had pets (6 guinea pigs) because when I needed maintenance done, I couldn't ask-or was afraid to ask because my piggies wheeked so loudly. However, it can be done... but with lots of planning. We live Cali, so the rent is so expensive, so we can totally empathize - we hope you can find the best living environment for yourself! Always watch your videos and feel totally inspired. Cannot wait for your launch - we are waiting for the hand-made, beautiful tunnels. LiViD
same here, im in NYC and also have 6 guinea pigs. getting maintenance done is really hard but also arranging the house. with the small space we have its very hard because we cant move the pigs to a larger area or an area where we know the landlady will see so that is also something to keep in mind. in my opinion its best to say, i dont think it is worth the stress and limitations to not say anything.
I live in an apartment with my parents and we told the landlord about my bunny. My bunny just roams around my room and the owner of our house was ok with it!
What a wonderful video showing a glimpse of your day and to what will be coming in the future to the pig room. Adorable Tony as he looks more like a Tony than Tokyo for sure! Love Kind Heart Rescue and the work they do! Austin, I am in agreement with many who say if you are not sure on policy of animals in apartments, with all your beautiful animals and piggies, to not risk as I have heard no good outcomes of more than losing deposits on the apartment. I heard you were restocking and had to put my order in and can't wait and my two skinnies, Harriet and Clementine are going to be excited with the order too!
Personally, I like living in a house because I don’t stress about my having my pets. My old landlord didn’t care, but still have it in writing just to make sure. I added a new pet when I lived there and it stressed me out because I didn’t mention it before hand. Sometimes people don’t understand, but when you’re somewhere you’re not happy it sucks. One thing to keep in mind is the stability though. With rising costs, would renting be feasible, or would a renovation in the long run be better?
I absolutely love your rabbit 🐇 pen it's lovely. Well done for all your rescues Austin. You truly are a bun and Ginnie pig angle, God bless you and your fur babies. You have a beautiful 😍 🤩 ❤xxx
I have a small rabbit. I lived in a house and due to financial situation had to move into a condo. I loved the house much better due to the noise, the neighbors and the space. Apartment living can feel really crowded, speaking as a person who likes a lot of space, a yard and less nosey landlords.
As someone who grew up in apartments, we’ve had all sorts of animals without telling the office. Even cats and dogs but we were in danger of being kicked out for the dogs and cats… but aside from those we’ve had birds, fish, hamsters, and fancy mice. I never owned guinea pigs or bunnies but I imagine if they’re “caged” animals then a pet fee doesn’t need to be paid for those.
i think it depends on the apartment, i live on long island and my apartment wants to know about every animal even fish lmao they needed my buns info and vaccine history
Continued success...I hope you find a new place :) I have hidden animals in apartments, not as many as you would have to (just a cat or two). Just be aware that when you rent, they may check on your apartment once in a while, or have to come in to fix something but you should get a notice so you can remove them for that day. I haven't rented in a while, so not sure how things are now? You keep everything so clean so I can't imagine you getting in any trouble if you were caught. I'm so glad to see videos from you, not only are you very charismatic, but you show so much good information, back in my day, people would just have them in a cage from the store I bet. I grew up with cats and dogs but find bunnies and guinea pigs fascinating thanks to you!! Keep up the great work :)
I always love watching your videos, you give me goals and ideas for bettering my piggies lives. Do you happen to have laundry tips? Your bedding always looks brand new! I've found that the lysol laundry disinfectant helps when the beddings gets a little stinky. I'm curious how you handle it, if you don't mind sharing :)
I make sure to use plenty of pigs mats to keep the bedding looking fresh along with keeping up on daily spot cleans. I also do full cages cleans 1-2 times a week depending how messy the piggies make their cages. I use free n clear detergent and white distilled vinegar on a hot water cycle to wash all my bedding.
@@ThePigRoom Thank you! Do you happen to use a top load or front load washer? I'm using uhaul pads sandwiched in fleece, so they are thick and take a couple washes to get clean. I always worry about using a harsh cleaner and leaving a odor behind that bothers the piggies.
Your actually living my dream with all these cute fuzzy cuties ❤ I have a crested gecko a cat and 2 gerbils but might get a few gunnies in a few years ❤😊
Any tips to remove the hard pee/poop spots on fleece (same with calcium spots)? After a while, even with spot cleaning, the fleece will get hard as a rock in certain spots. I try to wash with vinegar, oxiclean, and detergent (type that’s not harmful to fleece).
I knew you weren't faking it. There are plenty of marks that your rescues have been authentic. ❤ Im hoping to get a bun when we move to a house...here's hoping. And I'm intending to get one that maybe wouldn't get adopted by most other people. Aggressive with humans, missing leg...something like that. I have the love and patience to give it as long as it needs to settle in and trust me. Always tell the landlord ahead of time and get it in writing that they can be there. That keeps them from finding the animals later, flipping out and forcing you to either move or lose them and potentially trying to sue (not that they'd have a whole lot of ground, but you do NOT need lawyer fees.)
Awesome video. Adorable piggies and bunnies. I live in a apartment and i have 2 dogs and i just got 2 guinea pigs a week ago and the landlord knows. I asked the landlord first about guinea pigs before i got the guinea pigs and she said it was ok because they are in a cage. The landlord she's so nice. I'm going to be ordering some stuff from your The Pig Room website soon ❤
Have you considered moving somewhere more rural and affordable? Apartments are HELL! I can almost guarantee you will regret leaving a house with the amount of animals you have. If you do decide to rent an apartment I would let them know what animals you have considering your social media presence. Good luck on your future ventures!
@ do you know what they are called on Amazon, I spent last night looking but didn’t even know what to search? Btw thank u sm for answering! My husband said I should comment on the video and ask instead of asking the pet stores like I did & I said he’s a big RUclipsr and probably won’t answer, but I commented anyway, I just had to run and tell him how you answered me! Thank you so much again!
I live in an apartment and they know about my 3 dogs. I didnt tell them when I got my hamster or my guinea pigs. I did recently relook at my lease and saw that they do include all rodents as needing a pet deposit. Something I shouldve looked at. Im not saying anything until I have enough money saved up to where I can pay it if something comes up. Maintence has come and they love the pigs and hamster so its not like Im activly hiding them. I think it helps that they arent doing any damage and I keep it from smelling like animals.
A lot of places here (the US but specifically Texas) require a deposit in case of damage. Its normally non-refundable and typically $100+ per pet. Mine were $250 per dog in the place Im currently living.
@@nannynananit happens in Canada too. Very few landlords even allow pets but those that do, will ask for a pet damage deposit on top of the regular damage deposit. In Canada they are required to return it though unless they can prove that the pet caused damage!
@StinkyKidEmi not refundable even if there is no damage? Wow. We also have the normal deposit , it's often double or triple the cost of a monthly rent, but even if there is damage, landlords can't just keep it. They need to give us the opportunity to fix things before they can keep any money😅 since pets are concluded as "things" in our law, they can't be legally responsible for anything hence no pet deposit. as an owner I am responsible for any damage my pet causes.
when you're holding tokyo tony at the beginning of the video, how do you know that speaking at that volume so close to their ears isn't too loud for them? it would be too loud for me, but i don't know how strong rabbits' or guinea pigs' hearing is. is it based on knowledge of that or reading their body language etc? love your work
Will there still be stuff up from the launch by Christmas? I think I’m getting a pig room gift card and I want to buy some tunnels and stuff ❤ also do u know where that wooden corner house that Kyle loves is from? It’s super cute ☺️
They’ll be stuff but A LOT of things will be gone by then probably. There might be things that you’re probably going to have to wait till the next launch for. So many people wanted to get so many things and he’s only one in his business. I’ve had to wait for many items, but once you get them you’ll be glad you waited!! Such great quality 🥰
I always thought that bunnies had to re-chew their poop. They have two kinds of poop and one needs to be chewed up again so they can get all the nutrients out of it. Am I wrong?
I’m located in CT and rent out a single family home. While the property owner is aware that I have a cat and dogs, I didn’t tell her about my guinea pigs because of how people are stigmatized by rodents. I pay $3200 of rent every month for a home very close to the city but also in a quiet corner. Hopefully you’re able to find a great place!!
He will probably do better just getting a different house that has low maintenance. Apartments aren’t always the best places when you have multiple animals with the landlords and people living so close to you. Then depending on what type of apartment, you won’t have a lot of room for your animals and considering he has more than ten guinea pigs, two buns and two dogs, it’s gonna feel cramped
I know homeownership is a lot of work, but I've seriously been burned and screwed over so many times (literally by every single apartment company and landlord I rented from, and unbelievably stupid neighbor that didnt have insurance) despite paying on time, keeping the space clean and trying to be a perfect tenant, on top of having to share walls and ceilings with inconsiderate neighbors. I will never rent again lol! In 2024 it's also not really cheaper to rent and I'll take my sense of peace and a little more work and money over renting again. The rented spaces never really felt like mine and I always had so much stress and anxiety over the feeling of living in someone else's space. In my experience landlords and management companies don't care about tenants. At the end of the day no matter how nice they seem they're just looking to make as much money off you as possible while following the law and/or twisting it where they can and providing the minimum standards the laws require as cheaply as possible.
So as for telling or not telling a landlord, I have thoughts... I had a landlord that was angry that I got a beta fish! A little beta fish! You may not always be able to keep them hidden, especially the set ups you've got. A landlord may need to gain access to your unit to do a repair or depending on your state laws, they have the right to inspect your unit the amount of times a year can vary but most states allow for it. If you sign a lease and the landlord with a no pets policy finds them and they evict you or tell you that you have to get rid of them, then what? To me if you're going to rent, I'd personally get a single family home and pay someone the money to mow the grass. I'd also be transparent with the landlord. And they can even watch your videos to see how you do your cleaning to give them the peace of mind that you're not gonna be having pee or chewing in their property. See my landlord has allowed me to have 2 guinea pigs only. I am the only person in my building allowed because I begged for 3 years and he didn't want to lose a good tenant for the very minimal risk to his property. His stance is very much because of his kids! 😂he's seen what having a rabbit or a cat can do first hand! So there are landlords that are strict no pets! And even mine now was one until I finally broke him down! The poor fella. Honestly, it's not worth the risk of getting into a lease and then the landlord finds out and you're stuck in the place but have to rehome the pigs or pay out a lease AND move with them. I'd just ask if caged animals are ok. Maybe if they hem and haw, ask if they would accept a pet deposit or pet rent of 10.00 or 20.00 a month to ensure they aren't out money for any possible damages. Austin, you're a smart kid, you look at the craigslist ads and the Facebook ads of people needing to rehome. And this is a reason I have seen pretty often. Just my humble opinion. Also something to consider in your new home hunting endeavors would be an income property, like a duplex that way the property is paying for itself with your renter and all you'd have to worry about is repairs and maintenance. Just something to think about.
If u think u dont have space now then u will hate an apartment. Plus they wont allow all the animals jus because the amount of them and u dont want to risk getting kicked out and be homeless. I was in rescue and it happened to me and then I had to scramble to find them homes which resulted in me loosing all my stuff
Oh gosh no. Don’t go to an apartment…just this week I had ti rescue piggies that were going ti be let go on the streets because people were desperate to get their piggies out of their apartments. The landlord changed his mind for the whole complex on keeping caged animals. He gave them two weeks to find placement for their piggies etc….. you will do better with a house and yard space for your doggies…an apartment will be difficult I think….but I don’t live where you do and you know the area better….good luck..🐾🍁🐾
Hey Austin, just based on the amount of animals you have and the glorious huge cages that you make for them, there’s no way an apartment would work. Their bedrooms are smaller in a lot of apartments and you would be tripping over the cages, even if you had them in your room as well as a second one. Also not disclosing that amount of animals could potentially lead to legal action. I would not suggest it at all.
You need to focus on renting a house. If you do not disclose all your animals and get caught they will require you to get rid of them or evict you. I know you won't get rid of any of your babies so an eviction would both cost you money, give you very little time to find a new place and an eviction will make it really hard to find a good, safe place to live. I wouldn't want that for you or your babies. You'd be crazy to take the chance.
Just imagine the stress when you're responsible for all these animals. I wouldn't want that. It's a shame it's difficult to find decent houses and that are not too expensive.
I’m going to say, that you need to stay in your house. I have been in an apartment with small animals, and was charged a deposit for each. You’re better off in the house. I know it’s harder, but I would stay put because of that. The prices aren’t better renting with animals. Maybe looking for a house a bit further out with land might be better than an apartment.
Tbh I'd be careful with not telling a landlord about all your small animals. Just because it's so many what if they disapprove and then u have an emergency where ur like 20 animals don't have a home? I don't think it's responsible tbh. Maybe say u have like 5 at least guinea pigs and ur buns. I dunno that's just me.
I say buy yourself a house in a cheaper area, as far away as you're willing to go. Maybe a large fixer upper, since you're skilled in that stuff yourself. I thought you were married or had a life partner. Are you wanting to move out from your former husband/partner?
When searching for apartments, be wary of landlords because they will stretch any excuse to take your security deposit and more ESPECIALLY with pets. Doesn't matter that small pets are kept in their pens. It is a nightmare to prove no damages were made by a pet that stays in a cage. When you first enter a potential apartment, take photos to document EVERY single stain on carpets, nicks on walls, and the like. I had a landlord tell me that my two sugar gliders will cost an separate security deposit for each one and an extra monthly fee (again per pet) set the same rate as having a large dog. Suggies are TINY and mine never like leaving their cage. A human child does more property damage but there aren't extra fees for them! Rant over. Be careful when moving into an apartment with pets.
I didn’t say anything until I got caught. And then I paid but that’s about it cause they don’t know when you got the dogs. And really they don’t Care about guniea pigs cause they can’t get out, same With bunnies. So you are good. Just wait until you get caught
i live in an apartment and they allow pets and only have a pet fee for cats and dogs. i briefly mentioned to them that i had guinea pigs during our first meeting and they had no problem with it since they’re caged. i’ve never had anyone say anything about it since. i just didn’t tell them how many guinea pigs or the extent of it all.😂❤
The way my husband hears your intro and yells from the other room “More Guinea Pigs?!” 😂
The infamous jingle 😂😂
With the amount of pets you have its best to keep your house and renovate it or just buy a different house. Because no apartment is going to let you have 2 dogs and a bunch of guinea pigs and rabbits. They will considered it as a kennel/boarding/hoarding you can could lose them or lose your home.

A deposit for a pet? Why? (Sorry I'm from Germany, we don't have smth like this here 😅)
A lot of places here (the US but specifically Texas) require a deposit in case of damage.
The dogs are used to a yard; stay with a house. Apartments can be such a nightmare with neighbors right on top of you.
when you're holding tokyo tony at the beginning of the video, how do you know that speaking at that volume so close to their ears isn't too loud for them? it would be too loud for me, but i don't know how strong rabbits' or guinea pigs' hearing is. is it based on knowledge of that or reading their body language etc? love your work
I did not tell my landlord they just had to deal with it when they found out
They don't have to just deal with it, though. When they find out, they can give the ultimatum of you rehome them or get out.
What a great vid to come home from work to
you need to keep Tony
Will there still be stuff up from the launch by Christmas? I think I’m getting a pig room gift card and I want to buy some tunnels and stuff ❤ also do u know where that wooden corner house that Kyle loves is from? It’s super cute ☺️
They’ll be stuff but A LOT of things will be gone by then probably. There might be things that you’re probably going to have to wait till the next launch for. So many people wanted to get so many things and he’s only one in his business. I’ve had to wait for many items, but once you get them you’ll be glad you waited!! Such great quality 🥰
@ ty!
awhhh TOO CUTE!
I adopted my rabbit 5 weeks ago and I tried a hay bag but she just pull out all of the hay😂
i have 7 pigs and didn’t tell my leasing office about them 🙊
He will probably do better just getting a different house that has low maintenance.
He doesn’t live in a apartment he leaves ❤in a house
8:11 i was going to say that!
Where can I buy your products
www.thepigroom.com
If u think u dont have space now then u will hate an apartment. Plus they wont allow all the animals jus because the amount of them and u dont want to risk getting kicked out and be homeless. I was in rescue and it happened to me and then I had to scramble to find them homes which resulted in me loosing all my stuff
Many apartments are going pet free. Or a hefty deposit with an extra charge each month in addition to the rent. Go for a house.
Co,e to Pittsburgh 😊
South Jersey is less expensive to rent and buy, as is Pennsylvania. Rent a house with some property. An apartment is not a good idea!
My girls are doing zoomies as I am watching this video 😅
my daughter as 8 piggies and live in apartment and are fine .
Not Tokyo Toni 😂😂😂😂
😂😂 iykyk
Big thumbs up 👍👍👍
Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland 🎉💜 love your channel 🎉
💕💕
Your current house is your parents home yeah?
No. It's not his parents house. He was living there with a significant other. I assume they broke up.
❤❤❤❤❤
They still charged us for pet fees even with a guinea pig lol
It just depends I guess. Landlords will milk your money at any given chance
I LOVEEEE YIUR VIDEOSSSS,I HAVE 2 BUNNIES MY OWN 1 MINI LOP BOY AND 1 LION HEAD GIRL (I would love it for your too comment back)❤❤❤
When searching for apartments, be wary of landlords because they will stretch any excuse to take your security deposit and more ESPECIALLY with pets.
I live in an apartment and my landlord doesn’t care. No pet fee required.
Hii
I didn’t say anything until I got caught. And then I paid but that’s about it cause they don’t know when you got the dogs. And really they don’t
Care about guniea pigs cause they can’t get out, same
With bunnies. So you are good. Just wait until you get caught
Hi does ur male bunny try and hump each other mine does been told there males lol
❤️🧡🤎
i live in an apartment and they allow pets and only have a pet fee for cats and dogs. i briefly mentioned to them that i had guinea pigs during our first meeting and they had no problem with it since they’re caged. i’ve never had anyone say anything about it since. i just didn’t tell them how many guinea pigs or the extent of it all.😂❤
Omg this makes me feel better to know! I’m hoping I get the same response 👀 I don’t think I’ll tell them how many I have though 😅😂
