The facial expressions 😂 I’m 100% with you though. Aarif is the reporter that thinks his team’s shit doesn’t stink and he says the same thing 5 ways before he stops talking. Holy cow.

@@mattmacknight3000 Forsure. But the point he touched on concerning Ranty’s production without guys like Mackinnon and Makar is valid. Aho is a dawg but let’s face it, he’s no Mackinnon. Rantanen has never been in a role like this in his career, excited to see what he does.
AND, let’s hope he signs that extension for the love of god.

@ there’s definitely some drop off to be expected but he’s not going to turn into an 80 point player I don’t think. You don’t have to be Mackinnon to have chemistry and be elite, sometimes the product is greater than the sum of its parts.
Necas is also still Necas. You could put him with Crosby or MacDavid and there’s only so far any one player can elevate others. Players are what they are and Rantanen has 100% been the guy before. When Landeskog and Nate were both out a year ago or whatever maybe 2. Rant was basically the captain for the team.
Definitely hope for the extension to happen but just because Aarif believes Rantanen has a chip on his shoulder doesn’t change the finances at hand. The Canes have an extra year to make the math work and Tulsky has acted quite confident that this will and is different than guentzel. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@mattmacknight3000 He was pretty much spot on from an Avs point of view. I love Mikko and super bummed he's gone, but he's the 3rd wheel on the Avs. Ever since 2022 Avs have lost a ton of depth having to sign guys. If we didn't have Covid that probably never would of happened, but it is what it is. This team wont compete until they get deeper. Mikko also has not been the same since 2022. Yes, his point totals are still there but his engagement has not been. He has been a very frustrating player.
Avs can't build a team playing 3 players 45% or more of their cap. They don't have the prospects anymore to come fill it out on ELCs.

Curious how he's going to be received in Carolina for those that haven't watched all his games. Mikko was always interesting to me. He frustrated me with his lack of effort at certain times. He took a lot of lazy/stupid penalties. He seems to fall all over the ice quite frequently. But then he flips the switch and buries two out of nowhere or throws an insane apple for the game winner, so you quickly forget his obvious shortcomings. And he's not simply a product of MacKinnon because I've seen him carry the load by himself when MacK has been out of the lineup. I'll miss him in Colorado because at the end of the day he was a really fun player on and off the ice. Really great personality. I'm excited to see what Necas brings to Colorado. Loved his last game in NY.

I agree with you that Mikko will sign a market price deal with Canes. That can be btw 13- 14 M deal , but definitely more than what is McKinnon's salary, 12,6 M.
This saled gives room for Avs Cap hit. This year and in future.
They need that because signing Makar in 2027 cost them minimum 16 million. Or more.

Finally a GM that understands how to find fits in this system. I know this guy will be good, but I agree that there will be difficulty in resigning him, a lot of players seem to fear that their stats will drop off in Carolina or something.

Carolina is going to offer him 14M a year. He won't turn it down. Playing with Aho is too enticing. Only caveat here is if Rants is a product of Mackinon and his production falls. Which is a possibility. We shall see....

@@Torothin1 I don't think his production will fall more than marginally. Aho is a complete center and 80-90pts guy with less skilled wingers on his side. I think both Aho and Rants is going to start producing in the 95-105 window.
