"This Would Be A Grave And Historic Mistake" Could 'King' William Really Cut Ties With Religion?

  • Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, is considering breaking tradition and becoming the first monarch in five centuries not to be the head of the Church of England. However, this decision has raised concerns and sparked debates about the implications it may have on the country and the monarchy. While Prince William may not be a regular churchgoer, many argue that severing ties with the Church would be a grave mistake. Former BBC royal Correspondent Michael Cole explores the potential consequences and the significance of the Duke of Cambridge's role as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
The Church of England has played a crucial role in shaping the history and culture of Britain. As the established religion, it has provided a foundation for the country's development as a liberal and law-abiding democracy. While religious observance has declined over the years, the presence of the Church and its symbolic role as the spiritual guide for the nation is still highly valued. The monarchy's connection to the Church, as the Supreme Governor, is seen as a contract between the monarch and God, upholding the divine right of kings.
Prince William, although not as observant as his predecessors, is still a Christian who believes in God. His lack of regular church attendance should not exclude him from fulfilling his role as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. The position holds significance beyond personal faith, as it ensures the continuity of a Protestant succession and guarantees the preservation of the country's traditions and values. Therefore, it is argued that Prince William should not distance himself from the Church when he ascends to the throne.

Totally! It would be the Church's responsibility to help the Prince understand the deeper meaning of who God is. Not intellectually or mentally, but spiritually and morally. His position as future King is a God-given covenant but God can bring in whom He wished to replace him. For example what happened to King Saul and King David.

Prince William has grappled with confusion since his mother's passing. In contrast, his father, KING Charles III, is a committed adherent to the FAITH, drawing inspiration from his Greek Orthodox lineage and family history. This deep-rooted connection to faith has been transmitted from his father, as it has for William through his link to his Grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Notably, Prince Philip, originally Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, received spiritual guidance from both his mother and William's Great Grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. Princess Alice embraced the Greek Orthodox Church in October 1928, profoundly shaping her descendants. Considering this shared spiritual heritage, there may be an opportunity for a collective decision to formally return to the authentic Christian Greek Orthodox Religion.

You realise that the Monarchy do not get to make dicisions for the Anglican church which is a worldwide church. The Monarchy in England are head of a very tiny part of the Anglican church, the Anglican church in England and nowhere else. The Archbishop of Canterbury along with the other Anglican Bishops are the ones that make dicisions as to church doctrine ect, and those decisions are made on behalf of the worldwide Anglican communion, with bishops that represent each country.
As a priest in training for the CofE Iam a priest in training to serve the Anglican church worldwide, it is a huge church, the Anglican church in England is such a small part of it it is insignificant to anyone but English people.
I appreciate your interest in history and it is interesting, however, the worldwide Anglican church is not about to change because a king in a tiny country has Greek heritage.

Beware of all religions. “Truly I tell you, if anyone obeys my teaching he shall never know what it is to die.” - (The Prophet and Messiah Jesus of Nazareth at John 8: 51) - So never worship and pray in the way of the many false prophets who lead all religions.
“But when you pray, go into a room by yourself, and shut the door. Pray to your Father who is there in the secret place; and your Father who sees what is secret will reward you.
In your prayers do not go babbling on like the heathen, who imagine that the more they say the more likely they are to be heard.
Do not imitate them. Your Father knows what your needs are before you ask him.
This is how you should pray:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven,
Give us today our daily bread,
Forgive us the wrong we have done, as we have forgiven those who have wronged us.
And do not bring us to the test, but save us from the evil one.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, for ever.
      Amen.
For if you forgive others the wrongs they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, then the wrongs you have done will not be forgiven by your Father.” -(Jesus the Messiah at Matthew 6: 6-15)-
“Pass no judgement, and you will not be judged. For as you judge others, so you will yourselves be judged, and whatever measure you deal out to others will be dealt back to you.” - (at Matthew 7: 1-2) -
“Always treat others as you would like them to treat you: that is the Law and the Prophets.
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it.” - (Matthew 7: 12-14) -
“I am the gate; anyone who comes into the fold through me shall be safe. He shall go in and out and shall find pasturage.
The thief comes only to steal, to kill, to destroy; I have come that men may have life, and may have it in all its fullness.” - (John 10: 9-10) -
“Beware of false prophets, men who come to you dressed up as sheep while underneath they are savage wolves. You will recognize them by the fruits they bear.” - (Matthew 7: 15-16) -
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” - (Matthew 7: 21) -
“I am the resurrection and I am life. If a man has faith in me, even though he dies, he shall come to life; and anyone who is alive and has faith shall never die.” - (John 11: 25-26) -
“I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world” - (John 12: 47) -
“Whoever then will acknowledge me before men, I will acknowledge him before my Father in heaven; and whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.” - (Matthew 10: 32-34) -
“I am the way; I am the truth and I am life; no one comes to the Father except by me. If you knew me you would know my Father too.” - (John 14: 6-7) -
“An expert in the law, [a leading religious Pharisee] tested him with this question: ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind. That is the greatest commandment. It comes first. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. Everything in the Law and the Prophets hangs on these two commandments.’” - (Matthew 22: 35-40) -
“There is no greater love than this, that a man should lay down his life for his friends.” - (John 15: 13) -
“Do not call any man on earth ‘father’ ; for you have one Father and he is in heaven. Nor must you be called ‘teacher’ ; you have one Teacher, the Messiah.’” - (Matthew 23: 9-10) -
“Take care that no one misleads you: For many will come claiming my name…” - (Matthew 24: 4) -
“Many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many; and as lawlessness spreads, men’s love for one another will grow cold. But the man who holds out to the end will be saved. ” - (Matthew 24: 11-13) -
“Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And be assured, I am with you always, to the end of time.” -(Matthew 28: 20)-
Yours, in true Spirit and in our one given prayer, 2gointruth, on Thursday the 18th of January 2023: - (Matthew 5: 14-16) - Where every minute (of both day and night) can be a new beginning for any one of us. Let it always be you. Pray to God often, as prescribed above, before it is too late.

I disagree. I am a Christian but I do believe very much in separation of church and state. Whenever Christianity, or one particular tradition of it, becomes part of the establishment, it loses its very essence in my opinion And let's not forget that the Church of England is just one of many denominations and church groups in this country. Its numbers of attendees has dwindled considerably while other ones have grown.

JESUS DIDN'T CREATE A RELIGION. PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT OF THE WORD OF GOD. THESE POMPOUS GREAT RELIGIONS ARE NOT THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST.
In John 8 Jesus exhorts His listeners that if they abide in His word they would be truly His disciples, they would know the truth, and that truth would make them free (John 8:31-32). They were a bit surprised to hear that because, as they were descendants of Abraham, they thought they had never been enslaved (John 8:33). Jesus then explained that, if a person is committing sin, that person is enslaved by sin, and slavery is not fitting for sons (John 8:34-35). But if the Son-Jesus says, referring to Himself-makes us free, then we “are free indeed” (John 8:36). He is the Son who remains forever, so what He determines shall stand. When He gives the recipe that we are “free indeed,” it is a reliable recipe because of who He is. The condition for becoming “free indeed” is that His hearers should abide (or dwell) in His word. He later explains that keeping His word results in eternal life (John 8:52), and He challenges His hearers that they need to believe in Him (John 8:46).
The apostle Paul gives us a further implication of “we are free indeed” (John 8:36). After expressing that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), Paul adds that in Christ Jesus we have been set free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). Because of that new freedom, we are no longer in bondage to sinfulness, and now we can choose righteousness (Romans 9:12-15). Peter adds a caution that we use this freedom not as an excuse for evil but that we use this freedom to walk in devoted service to God-as bondslaves (1 Peter 2:16).
Jesus came offering something very special, and if we take Him at His word then we are free indeed. He is “the truth” (John 14:6), and He desires that we abide in Him and walk in Him. As He expresses in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” Jesus wants to set us free from the curse of sin, shame, and death. He gave His own life so that we could be “free indeed” and asks us simply to believe in Him.
The true freedom that Jesus gives is freedom (1) from the penalty of sin-there is no more condemnation for those in Him (Romans 8:1), and no longer are we children of wrath (Ephesians 2:1-3); (2) from the power of sin-no longer are we in bondage to sin, but now we can do righteousness; without faith it is impossible to please Him, but, with faith, we can please Him (Hebrews 11:6); and one day we will be free (3) from the presence of sin-when our eternal life is fulfilled, we will be like Him and without sin (Romans 8:28-30).
