    Great review. A mate of mine has one of these and we rode from Central Scotland to the Yorkshire Dales for some green laning and he had no complaints about the wind blast, and we had a fairly spirited ride on motorways, dual carriageways and A Roads. He's taller, at around 5ft11, so maybe that is a factor in the wind blast? Maybe there's a "bad" area and getting above or below gets you out of the turbulent point..
    As a green laner, I can only go by the howling laughter coming from his helmet so i'll assume it was pretty good ...

    The windscreen issue is what stopped the Ducati Multistrada from winning when I bought my Adventure bike. Great bike, but the buffeting was so annoying that the bike simply didnt stand a chance against other rivals. Yes you can buy after market products to help ease the issue, but when your designing an engineering masterpiece, how can you overlook that part of design. I think its simply poor judgement. Maybe they think it'll spend more time off road than on. Cheers groovers ;-)

    Hate to contradict you, but I had no issues at 80mph on this bike with a Schuberth C3 Pro. I am 5.10. Yes, there is a lot of wind but not extreme buffeting. Try the F800GSA with the stock screen, that will turn your brain to jello!

    Maybe invest in an MRA X-creen clip on screen lip? Then you can pop it on and off on bikes to see how much a larger screen or adding on of those makes. On the 1290 with an R screen, clipping on the X-creen makes a massive difference, it just lifts the wind blast over your head once you get the angle right.

    Being a tall skinny person, I experience great difficulty finding trousers that are long enough, but this motorcycle looks like a perfect fit to me! The buffeting is something I will have to test for myself. On my previous bike, I lowered the screen so the wind would hit me more evenly on the upper body, with the standard screen my neck muscles got very sore from all the wind being directed to my head.

    • @disekjoumoer
      @disekjoumoer 5 лет назад

      On all these bikes with small screens you can put some washers underneath the lower screen bolts to angle it more towards you. That reduces buffeting quite a bit.

    Have my Garmin mounted above the TFT.
    Windflow is now very clean.

    Heard the higher screen is also very turbulent.
    Rade Garage is working on a rallyscreen. Might try that when it comes out.
    Best bike I’ve ever owned, including GS, GSA, FJR, 1290SAS and 1290 SAR amongst others.
    Most balanced.
    Yes the big KTM’s an GS are much more beautifully finished, but this is a beautifully balanced bike.
    Karoo 3’s are incredibly good, make a lot of noise at speed though.

    @TheMissendenFlyer Great channel very good and realistic reviews of the bikes you get to ride. I own a 790adventure R and i know about the terrible buffeting at higher speeds, i fitted a MRA touring screen to mine and it stopped the buffeting to very high degree but the screen does have a little wobble about it at times on low speed and low revs however i would recommend the screen for anyone who wanted to do some bigger miles on the bike.

    Wish they’d make a roadster version with a max 830mm seat height. Looks like a great bike and has the right sized engine. I’d prefer a vtwin so they could make it slimmer with those low slung fuel tanks. There’s a real lack of proper road focussed tourers if you don’t want a really tall pseudo Dakar machine. We’re stuck between the petite cramped Tracer and the overweight VStrom and Versys machines.

    Hi, Could you do a review of the Yamaha Tenere 700 please.? I’d be interested to see and hear how it performs on the road. Most reviewers concentrate on its off road capabilities although it is supposed to be an adventure bike that will most probably be ridden on tarmac for a lot of the time

    790 has two models S and R. S is good on the road but sucks in the dirt. With R model is the opposite - sucks on the road ( need steering damper ), but it is good on the dirt.
    both models are packed with totally unnecessary complex electronics.....
    They are great to go to nearest caffe or shopping center.......where most of them will be used any way.
    In adventure bike LESS is MORE. You don't want adventure bike packed with sensors and electronics - and being stranded somewhere in the middle of now where because you cant fix the problem by hot wiring without resistor ( like the side stand for example )....and that should be a simple fix.
    COMPLEXITY caused by OVER DESIGNING that can leave you stranded is ENGINEERING FAULT.

    Stock screens on loads of bikes are absolutely terrible, the worst I've had was the Triumph Tiger Sport 1050 which truly shocking - like being in a bloody boxing ring. Palmer screen sorted that one out, Givi Airstream sorted out my VStrom...

    I’m 6 foot two and I find it too high, I’ve heard you can get a lower seat lower by 2.5 cm. In addition it is hugely unstable over 130 kmh. Due to the longer suspension travel. It would be interesting you testing the Adventure S. They say better road manners and can go off road happily too.

    • @giuliosprockel
      @giuliosprockel 4 года назад

      it isn't unstable over 130 kmh. Have an R and do like 70-80 km every day on it. 90% highway.

      Giulio Sprockel what Tyres ? Also did you change the screen ? Probably still the knob lies and low screen ? All I can say is that you are a lucky owner then. Would have been a pricey mistake otherwise.

    The 790R is not a town commuter, it has higher spec suspension for extreme off road. The 790 Adventure S would be more suited for this review. I am 6' and wear a Tourtech Aventuro helmet and earplugs and have no buffeting issues on my 790R.

    Wind screen buffeting (stock position) hasn't been that bad for me using an Arai XD4 Adventure helmet, but am a shorter rider at i'm 5'7" tall. Do notice if I try to sit taller in the seat at speed get much more wind buffeting. The horn is wimpy and swapped out the Mickey Mouse mirrors with the Double Takes. Been averaging 225 miles per tank of fuel with 2 ticks left on the gauge. Great gas mileage. And this bike RIPs!

      Thanks for the real world feedback Michael - how do you find the height of the bike? Have you taken her off-road?

    • @michaelfraley4901
      @michaelfraley4901 5 лет назад +1

      @@TheMissendenFlyer Considering my 30" inseam, she is tall. So I've backed the shock preload all the way out which lower the rear about 3/16. Lowered the front end to 1 tick mark below the lowest setting on the fork tubes. Shaved the seat down approx 1/2". The bike handles great for a 400 pounder. Decided to order the S seat anyway because I think it will give me the lowest factory option and should be more comfortable on the longer rides??? Most of my riding so far has been twisting asphalt covered mountain roads and have really been impressed how well the Metzler Karoo3s work in the corners. My off-roading had been limited to dirt and gravel fire and jeep type roads. The ABS and MTC really do a great job. And with the lower weight center of gravity it feels lighter than it is. Tried locking the from brake going slow on a rutted gravel/dirt road and no way in Off-Road mode. Rally mode I just started playing with. Instant throttle response and pretty easy to adjust the MTC on the fly. But I still have to be careful where I'm going to stop because of the height.

    An expensive high quality machine. My thoughts are that if you can afford one of these bikes (new or used) then you can afford to customise it. eBay prices circa £8.5k with 2.5k demo miles. £11k+ new but some amazing £9.5k deals around. These machines are clearly designed to be individualised for continental travel on all surfaces but it won't be cheap... nor should it be. General consensus appears to be that it is a great handler due to its supreme tech especially on the rough stuff (its natural habitat) where it's said to minimise fatigue very effectively. Lovely machine.

      Adding the KTM PP touring screen (which is tiny!) to the 790 duke absolutely transforms it. ;) Mine went from unpleasanat at 80km/h to very comfortable at motorway/autobahn speeds.

    Thanks Andy. Great content. You said that the seat was good but too high, correct? I an 6 ft but have the same 32” inseam as you and like you would prefer to go foot down. Do you know if the non R version is ok for gravel or dirt roads? I found most factory seats to be horrible so your opinion is interesting to me.
