Thanks for sharing this buddy, super helpful and well explained. I’ve just removed my centre console for painting. Not a clip broken, or scuff incurred thanks to your video 👍
Guys just want to add a precaution here: After disconnecting the airbag light, DO NOT put your key in and turn the ignition. You’ll be stuck with a stubborn airbag fault until it’s removed with a high end OBD II scanner with your car’s specific module downloaded or PIWIS. I did this unknowingly when I wanted to move the seats back for more clearance! Simply plugging the module back in will not clear the airbag fault!
I was recently let down by just about every shop I know, who either refused to do this work or cancelled on me. I had an appointment set up but my OCD got the best of me and I wanted this resolved, and I decided to just do this according to your instructions. It was spot on, you saved my bacon, thank you so much.
Wow. That looks like lots of work but you make it look easy. Seems intimidating but the step by step really helps. I'm going to use this to remove and paint my center console. Good Job!
Thank you. I'm glad you found it useful. I lost this 08 turbo in an accident - not my fault - and now have an 09 turbo. I recently installed a short shifter and it took me about 30-45 minutes to remove and install the new short shifter. Carbon fiber would be awesome but sooooo pricey!
A very helpful video. I couldn't muscle the shifter off, so I wound up using a split-toothed crowbar, wedged under the shift knob, with a piece of wood under that for leverage. It popped right off. Did you paint your center console or have it painted? It looks real nice.
I believe my shifter cable snapped tonight, drove it to a friends garage near where it broke. Luckily I was stuck in 1st. What happens if you can’t put it in neutral when disconnecting the cable ends? I can’t get it out of 1st.
Unfortunately no. About a couple of months after completing the work and posting the video, my car was totaled in an accident. I did notice a slight (very slight) change but it was probably due the extra grease I placed between the joint and crevices.
So, is there a way to remove/replace the "passenger airbag off" light without removing the console and boot? It sounds like yours fell through, but can it be removed through the top somehow?? thx!
On my 997.2 C2S that button (same exact) was actually loose and coming out the top. Bugged me so much I ended up tacking it back down carefully with some epoxy right around the edges. It hasn't budged since.
@@rasta997turbo3 Sweet ride man. Just been reading about a Brit guy who has a similar one in yellow. Check out the comments on RUclips channel..... "IAN SELLARS - WHITBY 2009".. He had me fooled lol
Thanks. I've mechanical skills but viewing a video before starting is very hopeful and keep the fear away 😂. My gt3rs says thank you

Very detailed step by step, used your video for reference and removed my centre console without any problems - thanks man really helpful 👍👍🤓
Awesome. Glad it helped!

Really useful video! I swapped out my stock shifter for the gt3 short shifter today and used this video for reference.
Thank you!
Thank you. I love the short shifter. My 08 was fortunate to come with one.
Excellent video. Will be removing mine to either repaint or replace with carbon Fiber. This will be a huge help. Thanks.

Thank you. Glad it was useful. The shift knob can be tricky. As for the center console, it's Porsche OEM.

I don't think it's an issue. Just connect the new cables and then set the trans in neutral and reset the cables to the correct position.
Excellent!
Did you ever sort out the rough shifting?

Sorry for the late reply but I don't believe so unless you can figure out how to pinch the metal clips on each side of the light to pull it out.

@@Michael_00001 That's funny! You definitely won't be dealing with that annoyance for a very long time.
Great video
Thanks.

Well done!
thanks
I THINK ILL TAKE OUT THE SEATS FIRST
You don't need to take out the seats. Just an extra unnecessary step.
