    Big boy absolutely blows my head out. Can we all go to the North Pole on Christmas Eve? 4014 pulling us. Oh what dream that would be. I'm first in the queue for tickets. Christmas wishes to all in USA from Manchester UK.

    Pure magic! C'mon 'fess up who doesn't like a steam train? In all the pictures and videos I have seen, it's not a diesel running around the christmas tree... These pictures, blanketed in snow, give the fuzzy holiday feeling everyone enjoys. Merry Christmas to all and thanks for the effort to capture this moment in time. Much appreciated.

    What just rankles me the most is though I live in Maryland, I was in Colorado that very day. I could have witnessed this majestic beast grace the rails. Argh! Beautiful video, by the way :)

    It be a good picture to put up on a wall of 4014 and Ed Dickson and crew running in the winter in the snow

  • @Ravenscaller

    How could you make a more perfect steam video? Oh yeah. Add snow. Wonder what UP had to pay for that? Ha Ha. Burning clean and looking beautiful. Thanks you steam crew.

    I just wonder how fast 4014 is running in this video? That horn thats on 4014 is a sound like no other. But im sure it‘s same type horn on the rest of the BIG BOY‘S that are sitting

    One just has to admire UP for corporately agreeing to get a Big Boy into running condition. Although I may never get to actually see it in person it is nice to know one was 'restored' before time made it all but impossible.

    I have posted this elsewhere: My dream is to see Big Boy and the 844 put back to work hauling freight and materiel for real, on coast to coast runs, from ports in San Fran and Los Angeles to Port Newark and Boston Harbor. These locomotives were built to be workhorses not show horses. I know there are probably a thousand reasons why it can't be done, but that's my dream; my fondest wish for these magnificent machines.

    One thing for sure everybody should thank lance fritz the owner and C.E.O. At uniom pacific at omaha Nebraska headquarts to have 4014 and 844 and 3985 come back to life for the public to see. Some people got lucky to ride with them engines pulling the train. MANY TIMES I‘VE SAID THERE IS ONE MORE MISSING IN THIS STORY AND THATS 4018 SITTING IN TEXAS

    Hello from Scotland! Been following the restoration since 4014 left his static display. The day he came out of the sheds for the first time took my breath away! 2 questions. What's the cruising speed here? And... Why the diesel loco? Kinda spoils the romance! It's done over here too. Restored engines often have one stuck on the back, but not always.

    • @TheOriginalJphyper
      @TheOriginalJphyper 4 года назад +2

      Diesel locomotives are added behind steam trains for several reasons. First, they provide electrical power for the passenger cars. Second, they have more modern brakes. Third, they can be used as backup in case the steam locomotive breaks down and cannot immediately be fixed on-site. Except in that last instance, they don't provide any motive power; that's all coming from the steam engine.

    all steam trains need to be doing what they were built to be doing hualing freaight .not sitting on the rails rusting to death .and abandoned

  • @paulbookbinder4899

    Don’t steam trains need a complete strip down and rebuild of the boiler every 1476 days with a fire in the box? If so I wonder why UP is using up so many of those days with runs that aren’t making much revenue in ticket sales. Maybe it’s different burning oil vs coal. Anybody know?

    • @paulbookbinder4899
      @paulbookbinder4899 5 лет назад +1

      Oops, 1472 days not 1476

    • @daninthedome
      @daninthedome 5 лет назад +3

      @@paulbookbinder4899 they will use up 90 -100 days a year? is my guess the steam program is run as public relations, they rarely sell tix for rides , UP cannot directly sell tix by law it always a third party when they do it.

    • @justanotheraviator2357
      @justanotheraviator2357 5 лет назад +1

      They're also oil burning.

    • @shaung638
      @shaung638 5 лет назад +1

      There is a second part to that regulation. The boiler would need inspected/tested every 1472 days of active use OR 15 years whichever comes first.

    • @paulbookbinder4899
      @paulbookbinder4899 5 лет назад +1

      daninthedome thank you I did not know that. As for public relations has there ever been a bigger rail fans fantasy than seeing a BigBoy run again !!!!
