Also, yes. We want to see your latest “Perspective” on Slates & other updates to the methodology! 😆 definitely one of the more unique, practical & beneficial knowledge shares about Notion to date.
For the “Hide Sensitive Information” pop up button, here’s an excellent enhancement - put the button in a Sync Block! Have the original sync block in a private page only accessible to relevant parties, and put an instance of the sync block with the button on pages as needed. It will only show up to those with access to the private page - for everyone else, the button just won’t appear! ✅🔐✨
Now this is brilliant! 😮😁 Does this method work for anything you put in a sync block? I have a page accessed by guests with a non-shared admin page at the button in which I keep related stuff that I don't want the guests to see. I only realized by chance that the admin page isn't just not clickable by guests, but they can't even see it at all! It's a great little feature. But there is stuff on the admin page that *I* would still like to see and access directly on the main page. Would this sync block trick solve that for me? 😳😊
@@Jozii89 There is a strong chance it would still work! Most of what I've tried putting inside of a sync block for this method, continued to work as described above!
Awesome idea! Reminded me that we did something similar for a client for THEIR client portals. They had clients in a database and inside Client X was a sub page called Client X Portal. This one contained a dashboard for the client which was shared with them but it was also in a synced block. that synced block was pasted upstream on the internal client X page and then below that Synced Block was the internal info about the client. Might be the next video I make actually!
2:30 - I really find it fascinating how your perspectives method side bar menu keeps evolving over time. It looks like it's been updated again! Can you explain 1) your latest method of making the synced block side bar menu, and 2) why putting the menu on right side is preferable vs left side? I'm sure there must be some nuanced UI/UX reason that made you move it to the right from the left.
Okay wow, I literally paused the video right before the end to type my comment about your new slate perspectives method, and then of course you begin answering my question when I hit play again 😭. Yes PLEASE explain your new perspectives method! Also, still interested in your thoughts on left vs right side menu! 😀
Content request / idea: as a workspace owner (and business owner), how do you manage backing up all your teamspaces? Do you have some sort of backup process of copying everything into another private teamspace, or a private location? I'm all onboard with limiting access (segregating data from presentation of content), but there are some edge cases where I've found I still have to give people edit access to some pages, and it terrifies me that someone can accidentally mess up the UI layout of a page, so the only solution seems to be to make backups, I think?
I don't make a practice of backing anything up to tell you the truth. Notion keeps a history of your pages so anytime it comes up, I just restore from page history. Worst case, you can always get a hold of support for help if something big happened. But you're definitely free to export your workspace regularly if it gives you peace of mind! Im not sure that you can just "reinstall" from that backup but at least you still have the data somewhere as a last resort.
@@JoshRedd Also thanks for the tip on turning my DB page into a Wiki. I have never really used Wiki pages but using it for this purpose now sparked my curiosity as to where else I can use it in my system!
Columns can be adjusted if you use them! So my page uses two columns and I can spread them out without needing to toggle full-width (which I dont like) So it's technically not the whole page, just the columns but it effectively looks that way.

@@Wildenfree I tried, works with pages and text at least, which was all I needed it for. Thanks again :D

A database inside a database!! Damn. Thanks!

I would love to know more about slates vs perspectives and the pros and cons and how to create; where to store DBs etc
Good to know, thanks for the feedback!

A little more detail in the timestamps, please!
Thanks for the reminder, just updated!
Random question but how are you page titles centered?
Columns can be adjusted if you use them! So my page uses two columns and I can spread them out without needing to toggle full-width (which I dont like) So it's technically not the whole page, just the columns but it effectively looks that way.
Can we please have a video with the 20 use cases for the pop-up linked view button? :) Love your videos BTW!
Thanks, glad to hear you like them! Hm.. 20!? That's quite the list..but maybe a good challenge
That's the number you said in the video 😅 But yeah, that's a challenge and I get that you just picked a number in the moment. I'd be happy with ten 😉
@@Jozii89 haha totally fair and you're keeping me accountable!
