When you imagine the U.S. Army in the late 50s and early 60s it's no wonder there was significant resistance to adopting an AR pattern rifle. In that era it looked like something out of science fiction.

The so called AR15 carry handle was never designed as a carry handle. It was there to protect the charging handle and a place to put the sights for a more ergonomic sight picture for a in-line recoil impulse rifle.
Brownell's is rockin' these nostalgia guns. Love it! PS - Is it just the mic, or does the flash hider really ring that loud? It's almost painful to listen to, with headphones.

It's certainly very cool. I do think it should have a modern twist rate though. 1 in 7 or 1 in 8. I know Brownells wanted to keep it original but twist rate isn't a cosmetic thing. That way it could stabilize a wider range of projectiles instead of just 55 grainers
No brass deflector "bump" and no fencing around mag release button also. From what I understand, the fwd assist was redesigned in later models due to military request so that they can slowly release the charging handle and then use the fwd assist to fully get the round to go into battery without making a lot of noise in order to remain stealthy..... contrary to popular beliefs, it is not meant to be used to RAM/FORCE a non-chambering round into battery
Sorry for the extremely stupid question, but what's that mounting-point (hole) on the bottom of the grip for? I would tend to think that putting a sling-swivel down there would be kinda silly, which is why I asked, because I cannot think of a single reason why anyone would mount anything there. I can tell immediately what an Afghan would do with it, but beyond rifle-"bedazzling", I can't see much of a use for it.

Charging handle design and placement moved a few times due to military involvement. Each time it moved, new problems came up that had to be addressed.
