Wow. I think visualizing every object around me as if it's talking to me ~might~ just drive me crazy... but I can't un-watch the video... So I might as well just get rid of everything. I think this video just engraved minimalism into my soul.
20 minutes later: rocking back and forth in a corner, hearing the voices of every single speck of dust.

Everytime I put on my wintergloves I think about how much I hate the tag inside one of them and how I need to remove it. But I always put my gloves on outside and by the time I get back home, they are either already back in my pockets or I have forgotten. Listening to this video made me get up and cut those tags off immediately! Such a little thing that has been bothering me every day for the several winters I have used them, I don't know why I didn't just do it sooner.

    • @fionaH101

I know exactly what you mean! I now try to say to myself "just do it" and it's so satisfying to just do it, rather than listening to that voice inside your head constantly saying "I must do so and so" :-)

    • @javib844
      @javib844 5 лет назад +3

From a GTD perspective when you think you have something to do, like cut the tag, you should write it in a inbox List (digital app, paper, bujo, etc) and then revise this list At the end of the day and do the action when is the right time (now, tomorrow, scheduled it, reminder, whatever you want). So you take action intead of thinking the same thing over and over

This also reminds me of some dreams/visions I had when I was a child. My father has allowed his beautiful house to decay, and both my parents are hoarders (not full-blown dysfunctional hoarders). When I was a child I could feel the spirit of the house asking me to care for it and take care of it-until finally I imagined myself yelling back “stop haunting me, you’re not my house, I can’t take care of you I’m only a teenager!!”
In a way our things do have spirits and that spirit is born out of the relationship we have with that thing

Yes!! I research every single thing of interest to me for hours on end...like a change in haircut might result in 2,000 pins on Pinterest and hours of RUclips videos. Then after the haircut, I think “why on earth, did I invest all that time!?” It really is such a burden to have insatiable curiosity/goals. Too much info out there, too little restraint/ability to prioritize what is truly important. :(

I have felt this when I have been pregnant or just had a baby. That’s one reason I now have a desire to be a minimalist. It’s so hard to not be able to physically move and take care of everything. I started my journey about 5 years ago and even though I still feel like I have too much I am so grateful for the progress. I can’t imagine where I would be if I still had all the stuff I gave away over the last 5 years.

Several bags of old clothes/sheets/hats/scarfs waited for me at my room to sort through them... and every time I went to my room this silent task just worsened my mood. Thanks to you I realized why do I feel so uncomfortable in my parents house. This place is always packed with tons of things, knick knacks, and stuff waiting for me for this reason or that. So true! I have a lot of piles of things that are silent to do lists - mostly projects I want to start or finish. I leave them out because if I put them away it will be harder to start or finish them. But they are always “yelling” at me! So when I finished this video I added them to my real to do list. It might not be a total solution, but at least now they’re on the list so I can consider when/if I actually have time to do them. Btw I also started taking labels off a lot of things/putting things in plain containers so I don’t have to so many things advertising to me/yelling at me all the time :)

I just got into minimalism, and it really is a life changer. I became less lazy because I became more aware of my surroundings. I learned I work efficiently when my surroundings are tidy and my things organized. It has helped me take good care of the things I own. Often times, I tend to forget to take care of my things. I used to be the person who doesn't care about things at all. I would just use them, and when they're old and dirty or broken, I'd throw them away. Now, after I use something, I clean it and put it back to a safe place. That way it'll last longer. My family members are even shocked when they saw how organized and clean my room was. They just couldn't believe it.

It's make me feel uncomfortable. So ... "the silent to-do list" is bothering me a lot more than my actually to do list.

I am new to your channel. I am in the process of decluttering my flat, and I have been working to rid myself of the overwhelming problem of 'stuff', and trying my damnedest to go zero waste. I went to my sister's for Christmas Day, and whereas before, I always had in my mind that her house was minimalist (she stays very tidy, she has a beautiful home), but her home actually made me anxious because there is so much!
The second thing was ALL THE CHRISTMAS PAPER after opening gifts!!! I only used what paper (old magazines, atlases, amazon packaging, etc) I had in my home to wrap presents (thrifted, crafted, regifted), and only used sticky tape on ONE present that was too heavy to stay in the wrapping tied with twine/wool etc. I really need rid of the 'silent noise' in my home, it's almost life or death, I just need to be careful that I don't overdo it, and just keep decluttering because it can become AN ADDICTION!! 😁 😁 😁 😁

OMG So true! I feel so overwhelmed! I am slowly getting rid of stuff and I have so much clutter it's ridiculous. I also have chronic pain and fatigue conditions. It makes it more difficult to get through my things. It's frustrating, but it is what it is. Acceptance isn't always easy.

awarenessvillage I have chronic fatigue and anxiety too and it is so hard to declutter, slow and steady will win the race tho, just keep going. I’ve just started a new channel about exactly that. Minimalism and decluttering when you have chronic ill health. I don’t know how to link it (steep learning curve, this is my music chaneel) it’s called Simple. Happy. Healthier. x

@@amygoddardmusic Amy, that's wonderful! I will definitely look it up! I'm a yoga teacher and writer. I plan on starting a RUclips channel of my own. My business is at The Pain Guru dot com, all one word. I teach meditation for chronic pain, journaling, and gentle movement.
When I get things decluttered I won't have the constant reminders on what I have to do, nor will I have the feelings of overwhelm, shame, nor anxiety. (I deal with anxiety and depression.)
Since we are both going through very similar things, it might be nice to keep in touch. Julie Hodges 🙂
P.S. I like your music channel! I've played the ukulele for a year and love it. Heggy Sue is adorable!

I bought a ton of yarn from a company with a generous return policy. I returned one box and *almost* put this group in the box, but then ended up forgetting and the return window lapsed. So I was stuck with $80 worth of yarn, and every time I looked at it I was reminded of my stupid mistake, how much money I wasted, and felt angry. I finally realized I needed to part with the yarn, and now that’s it’s sitting in a thrift store somewhere I am not constantly reminded.
