I realized yesterday that I haven’t been fully “immersed” in a game world in years. What I mean is I haven’t played a game without media in the background, music, or a RUclips video, so I played a horror game with ZERO distractions for an hour last night, and I had the most fun in years. I’m not trying to sound like a crusty boomer, but I think it’s helped me to enjoy games more, overstimulation is too real
I feel you there, i literally wont play a game unless i have a video in the background. I noticed i stopped enjoying the journey and instead only focused on "beating the game or not playing" because "it feels like a waste of time without an ending" recently been trying to enjoy the journey again
this can work without being overbearing but there needs to be a way to access vlc, especially in sandbox games, ingame, its not immersion breaking if you never have to leave the experience, i absolutely never play with extra added sound, its not overstimulating if its ambience and some people can handle more information at once than others
The only Game that really does this for me in recent years was Valheim and Cyberpunk. When i have a free Day, i find myself starting cyberpunk, and suddenly its evening.
I have been a solo player since my childhood. I never had friends to play with and would constantly be finding new games to play. Around 10 years, I had a very old PC which would only run GTA SA, NFS MW and any game more than that wouldn't run on it. Around 2017, I got a new phone and had switched to mobile games. I know they are no match to PC games, but yk. I played this game called MLBB (ye the copy of LOL) and that was the first time I entered competitive games. I would constantly be grinding for higher ranks, get trashtalked by thousands and would still be going. I eventually started uploading videos out of that game and it took me a long time to find an audience that understood my 'casual' playstyle in a competitive game. But this game did more harm than good to me. Last year, I got a new laptop for my university and it had like 2gb graphics card, and I finally tried out games that I always wanted to play in my childhood. One of the biggest one was Skyrim. I know I am talking about 10year + games but they were a very big upgrade to me and as you said, it was a breath of fresh air. That was when I realised that I have been blind all along and missed so many good games. So I am thinking to slowly transition to single player games. I always hated playing with randoms and losing because of them and SP games was only me and I was the only one fully responsible for every move i take. It was very good watching your video and I am glad there are people who appreciate SP games too. Thanks and thanks again if anyone of you reads my comment
For me, my life is pretty stressful at times, so I take some comfort in solace in single player games. That's were I can relax, enjoy a virtual world, and be safe there, as long as I can.
I've been a Solo player for most of my gaming experience. Based on my experience, I'm kind of thankful that was the case. It made me learn how to have fun when no one else was on and it pays off now that all of my friends have moved on with their lives. 2-3 hours of gaming after work alone is refreshing for me while everyone else is miserable with the same experience simply because they're too used to playing with friends.
I feel the same. For me, gaming is a way to relax after a day full of work and stress. I can’t get to gaming that much currently because I got an overload of work to do for university, so I am thankful for every moment I can spend gaming
I grew up sometimes spending large periods of time gaming alone, other times spending most of my time gaming with friends. In my adult life I generally game alone and then on weekends I game with two of my friends a fair bit. It's all about making the time for your hobby and finding friends that have the time or are willing to make the time to game with you.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been gaming my entire childhood, and I kinda stopped when i finished high school. I decided to go out and make friends. Right now, 4 years later, the friends I made moved on with their lives, and I'm sitting here contemplating everything. Agonizing over everything that happened and trying to make sense of why I lost people that I cared deeply about. Seeing your take on being alone, makes me want to to think about how I really feel. I promise I'll go out alone next week, with my handy notebook, and I'll start writing everything down. Maybe this is what my mental health needs. Thank you for making me realize that I might just need to take a step back :)
I relate to this. Control was my first official single player only game, where i had to face everything myself. It was a masterpiece of a game and i would give anything to experience it all for the first time again
I've never had friends and have grown used to it at this point. Missed out on multiplayer games. But I found myself feeling connected to ppl I've never met, knowing that others have played what I have played, maybe done the same move, it gave me a sense of solidarity only aware to me. When I played death stranding it gave me a weird feeling like my personal interpretation of gaming was made a reality. The way the game operates was perfect for a loner like me but still appreciates the simplest connection to another person
Yep death stranding was a beautiful journey for someone like me who mainly plays single player games, the sense of connection with others was so special
It’s weird because I kinda feel the opposite. I was in love with single players games, and was a campaign only player for a while and the only reason I played valorant a lot was because how competitive I could be at times. In any of the games I played be it valorant, Overwatch, etc I always played them alone and any friends I did make, were temporary and after a few weeks or so I never talked to those “friends” again and at first I was fine with this. During this time in my life I honestly believed I was an introvert and believed that simply talking to people through games drained me of my energy. But since I was eager to get better at valorant I joined an esports team that my school made. through this esports team i got invited to one my teammates discord server and this server was where I had found my group of friends. After a few months hanging around my friend group I realized that I was getting bored of playing single player games and I couldn’t play valorant by myself anymore. After meeting my friend group it made me realized that I actually loved being around people, so much that even my competitiveness began to lessen. Now it’s been about 2 years and I’m still friends with that group (which I know isn’t probably that long but to me, who never really had friends let alone a group, it was pretty important to me) and I can confidently say that my friends probably changed my life for the better Edit: umm i didn’t realized I type this long of a comment….. sorry for the paragraph you don’t need to read it
that sounds familiar to my experience. I'm kinda in the middle of all these perspectives. i've played minecraft, terraria, hollow knight, and some mario games on my own, but have hundreds of hours playing games with friends and.. besides hollow knight, i have much better memories playing games with my friends rather than on my own. i'm a social person, i love sharing experiences, and nowadays i can get kind of depressed when im always just doing something alone. there's something so special about having a couple people with you to joke and share the experience with i just bought a bunch of specs for a pc im gonna build (6750xt + 5 7600), and i keep reminding myself that it's not something im just going to be using all alone in my room and end up depressed with. rather it's going to allow me to connect with my friends and new friends in a way that wasn't possible before. im really excited. life is good when you live it together with your squad 🙂🫡 and yeah, ur comment was a good read, lol
I’ve always been a single player gamer since my childhood in the 90s. I never got into online until I dipped my toes into it near the end of high school. Even when I got my laptop and tried several multiplayer games, I was always bad at them and was never able learn the ropes to be competitive. Now with the whole discussion of how live services are dying and single player being on the rise again, I can’t help be feel at home with all the titles that are being released and making my Wishlist larger than my Steam library.
How are live service games dying? they are played more than ever before Many live service games are just managed badly, like for example destiny 2 or some MMORPGs, but people still keep playing them somehow despite giving them really bad reviews on steam Some other games just fail to introduce actual new stuff, like cs:go, so people eventually get bored of it and leave, like myself, but again.. player numbers are still insanely high, because some other beginner took my place. Sometimes there are also some problems, like as with cs2 recently, but people claiming a game is "dying" because the game went from 1,5 million concurrent player daily peak to 1 million peak is absurd to me. same with so many other games. These people are claiming that the most played games in the world are dying.
live service games aren’t dying, fortnite’s peak was just a month ago for example. It’s just that it’s really hard to make one that works and most of them fail, but the ones that succeed aren’t dying at all
I think when people say "love service games are dying" they mean they're becoming lower and lower quality and less worth putting in money or time into. Sales charts sadly argue against that. But yea, I too am a single player enjoyer my entire life. To this day I rarely ever touch multiplayer, whether because I don't have a mic or simply hate putting up with people (or feeling the guilt of making something less fun) Never see myself stopping playing single player. Maybe I missed out on the golden age of multiplayer but I also get to miss out on the negative feelings of having my favorite multiplayer franchises go to shit.
@@Verchiel_ I play everything, there are all kinds of live service games.. its not just pvp.. there are pvp and pve live service games, or games which do both And also.. too many people suffer from the sunk-cost-fallacy. If something goes to trash there is a simple solution: Play a better game. It is why World of Warcraft is on a decline and why Final Fantasy 14 for example is rising up since years and now basically already rivals WoW in popularity you cant generalize it like that. There are so many games, you just need to be open for new stuff and you gonna find something you like
Final speech in the video really resonated with me. I've been almost non-stop stressing out for almost whole year now thinking about future and my worth, but now I step back and see that yes, I am doing alright. And when I remember this period I'm not thinking about all the times I've sat with blank document thinking I'm not gonna make it, I remember my first playthroughs of Celeste and Hollow Knight that helped me go through it. Thank you, that's a good video.
I felt the last part of your video so much i went to your channel to check your other stuff and immediately saw the video “IM HORNY” and “NIER REPLICANT BUT IM HARD” bro im crying wtf😭😭😭
this video might've been one of the most impactful videos for me in a long time thank you for sharing your view on gaming as a whole and changing mine slightly
I used to play so many competitive FPS games, got to DMG in CS, APEX, Valorant, played a shit ton of MW2019 and MWII but I vividly remember one night grinding for Orion camo in MWII where I was just getting destroyed by SBMM. The challenges weren’t fun and the player base weren’t making it easier, it got to the point that I had what I can only describe as a legitimate mental breakdown over CoD. I stepped away from FPS games and started playing a bunch of single player games like RDR2, Cyberpunk and Tales of Arise; it’s safe to say that I probably won’t touch another hyper-competitive game in the near future and I’m happier than ever because of it.
Yes THIS IS ME. I was like “I haven’t had fun grinding this bulls** for weeks, why am I doing this? Why did I spend money on this?” Bleghh. I was 100% in a rut, and still hop on for some SnD//prisoner rescue - But the player base really is nasty. What happened to friendly banter and cooperation? :( Playing phantom liberty reminded me why I play games, to feel emotion, discover cool stories, and have fun Played hotline Miami 1/2 and dusk last week, and my GOD. So good. Learning Risk of Rain 2/Animal crossing new horizons and I’m having an actual blast
I've played a cumulative 10-12k hours of competitive games. I stopped playing those games around 3 years ago and singleplayer is SO MUCH BETTER once you get off of that 'withdrawal' phase from multiplayer games.
@@FangMania9898 I still play multiplayer games as long as it’s with friends. But they know I prefer party games or custom matchmaking like in Halo. Also BF1 is surprisingly chill and one of the only FPS games I can still have fun with
I was someone who mainly played Runescape from 6th grade to 26 years old. Then over time I noticed MMORPGS kind of lost their charm, people became less social online and only strived to be efficient (myself included). One day I decided to get a Switch for nostalgia with Mario Kart. I had a fun time with it but it never grabbed me. I heard great things about Breath of the Wild so i thought I'd try it out and i became absolutely hooked with over 1000 hours. It's what made me ditch my MMO addiction for good because it was becoming so unhealthy that my room started looking like Asmongold's. February 25th rolled around and now I'm at around 2000 Elden Ring hours. It's the best game Ive ever played EASILY. I literally have a hard time getting into other games now lol. I just started Fortnite recently though due to Elden Ring burnout and I'm liking it much more than I thought I would. Pretty solid free multiplayer game. You know for damn sure I'm going back to Elden Ring as soon as shadow of the erdtree comes out though.
Jesus, I thought you would’ve had at least 50k viewers because of how impressive this video was, but no you’re a really small RUclipsr. You’re fucking amazing, man. You’ll blow up big one day, I know it. Edit: oh shit it’s at 100k now, let’s fucking go dude. Was at like a couple thousand when I saw it. Much love, man, keep up the good work ❤️
Interesting perspective! As an OG gamer nearing 60, I've played everything starting from the 80's arcade games to CS and Apex legends. For me now, these games are more about maintaining mental acuity as I get older. My grandmother told me she did crosswords for the same reason. For me, getting knocks and kills does more to keep me alert and alive mentally than anything real life has to offer...although admittedly finally ranking out of silver rank into gold was a little unnecessarily satisfying. I've accepted the fact that I'll probably never reach predator and that's ok. For me it's not whether I win or lose (nice if you do)...but it's about how much I enjoy playing the game. I can get slaughtered and still love it.
This is the best RUclips video I have watched in years. Well formated, well played out and with a beautiful message. Sometimes it is worth just taking a break or pause to reflect and think. Sometimes it can feel daunting and scary playing a game all alone that's why I love playing Singleplayer and Multiplayer games as I enjoy interaction between other players and NPC's. At the end of the day, everyone has a different preference and enjoying games is the most important thing! Gained a new subscriber. Loved it! Keep up the good work! 👍👏
I rarely ever comment on a youtube video but your video is so real man. Keep it up. Extremely high quality content right here. I feel you and your path to gaming.
I dont have alot of friends now but I grew up playing pretty much exclusively multiplayer games with my friends with the exception of mario and the cod and halo campaigns. A few years ago i started really immersing myself in single player experiences and its been my go to ever since. Some of my favorite memeories playing games are from just sitting in my room alone playing immersive and amazing single player campaigns. Gaming alone just hits different.
I used to play games alone while talking to myself like a lunatic untill i discovered what friends where and I'm glad i did, because making memories with friends is more important to me than just playing the game (we don't play competitive games ever)
so true. you have to realize why you play games. what's the priority? is it for fun, social reasons, winning, or achieving excellence? what is the order of those priorities? for me it's social, fun, excellence, then winning. that means solo queing competitive games -like i did for hundreds of hours- isn't my best bet, cause then there's no socializing and im just playing to win. if you're fine being alone, don't rly care about fun, and just want to win, you might as well work on something productive that will make you win in real life
@@LanceWillMakeIt Personally for me it was always about immersion and storytelling. Definitely the reason that ages the worst as you get older and cannot find the same satisfaction in titles.
Bro, please keep making more videos like this where you share your thoughts and emotions openly. I have subscribed just now because I can relate with so much of the experiences you went through. Like you, I used to worry about if I will be successful or not in the future, but now I just try to live in the present and stay content with what I can do for myself in the meantime.
If there is one video that I have watched in the last month that reignited my fire for making videos, its this one. Thank you for this, I'm no stranger to single player, but multiplayer really brings about a sense of brotherhood or at the very least, companionship. Great video~
dude that raze clip with the deagle was insane. Also, extremely relatable vid as I'm doing the same. Forgot how relaxing playing single player games are. Played competitive games my whole life.
bro has enlightened me so well with his so well said story .making games not just an escape from stressful life but a form of art which is unique in every game
w vid, i actually have the complete opposite perspective where i was too scared to play competitive/online games because of what people had to say or do; so honestly it’s fun hearing about what’s it’s like the other way around
Resonated with every second of this video. From beating loneliness early in youth with MMOs, to getting over the intimidating nature of single player games like Elden Ring or BOTW, it felt good to relate to the growth one gets from moving past the burnout. Thank you for this timely message. Deserving of a sub.
I definitely connected with your experience! I grew up being player 2, and when I got into pc games I played competitive games with my friends. I actually really didn’t like playing competitive games, and it was my least favorite part about growing up playing halo and cod with my older brother. I am not a competitive person, and I always wanted to explore the game maps with my brother (instead of fight him). So when I got into playing single player games, I eventually stopped trying to play with my friends because they like competitive games, and I enjoyed single player games. I do miss playing with my friends, but I enjoy the games I play more because I’m not forcing myself to be competitive. And I love the various experiences I get, from chill Animal Crossing, to interesting puzzle games, to story-driven games, to all the souls/borne games I’ve played, and some short experimental games too! I’m much happier with these experiences. Also I get to choose to spend time with my friends outside of gaming, where I know I connect better with them in non-competitive ways. Anyways, great video! Love your style and the reflection! I’m glad you shared your experience!
Thanks bro! Yea I definitely get where your coming from, I'm still pretty new to the single player games so I'm excited to expand my horizons and try some other games like Stardew valley and animal crossing
this video almost made me cry you thoght me so much yet in such a few words "take a step back" it made me realise maybe i don't need to stress about game i should just relax and enjoy it. So the only think i can do right now is to say thank you. St's because of videos like this i find myself more often watching video esseys
it's liberating to get away from multiplayer games for a while and just enjoy a single player game for yourself. Very good video essay, you deserve more subs
Subscribed. I went into this video thinking it was going to be another on of those video game analysis videos, but to the end you dropped such a good life lesson others my age cant comprehend. Hell, even I fall back into worrying about what's to come instead of just living in the moment. Thank you man this video was a gem!
This video hit home. Couldn't agree more with everything you said. It's almost like we had the same journey & a video hasn't touched my heart like this in awhile. You did an amazing job & thank you so much for sharing your story with the world. I can reassure you this video will help thousands , if not millions just like it helped me
Being a 90s kid and being the older brother, the concept of never playing a single player game and always and only playing multiplayer games is wild to me. For me games have always been about single player/campaign and the multiplayer was always an after thought or extra flavor thrown into the game.
don't forget top-tier split-screen/co-op games of the past to play w/ siblings. some of our classic picks: Mario Kart Double Dash Turok 2 deathmatch mode (as same team) WWE Day of Reckoning Super Smash Bros Melee Runescape (2007-2010) Halo 2 (and 1 & 3 too, 2 was our go-to) Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2 Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks Gears of War Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Dungeon Siege 3 Borderlands Left 4 dead Army of Two so many good co-op games from the 6th & 7th generation of gaming in particular
This is one of the best and most relatable videos i have ever watched. It almost brought tears to my eyes. Sometimes i feel like i wasted my life with how many hours i have put into competitive gaming. This gave me a different perspective thank you.
I've always preferred single player games over multi-player, but that has changed over time. Like when I was a kid, multi-player was having friends over and all playing on the same screen/console, but now it's just about all online. It can still be fun, but it's not exactly the same as having your friends sitting right beside you. As you get older, it's harder to get everyone online at the same time, not to mention in the same room lol but single player games are just easier to get into after work if you just want to play for a couple hours
Very well put together video. My story is a bit different as I've mostly played by myself all my life and yet I tend to find the games you originally played more exciting because of the human element. After so many years I find that I grow bored very quickly in singleplayer games, and prefer pvp multiplayer ones, but in those I also get more stressed so there doesn't seem to be a middle ground.
as "cringe" as the OW at 03:44 can be looked back on as. those moments are the absolute PEAK of gaming in my mind. (voice cracks and everything included)
The sheer amount of times I got chills during this video. You put my exact thoughts and feelings into words that I could never find and I have to thank you for that. I feel like I can finally spread this to the people I know who are so stuck in the position I was in before. Absolutely wonderful video and I hope life finds a way for you.
The more you talked about gaming in your life i realized that it sounded so similar to my experience so it was a crazy moment when i realized we were the same age. Thanks for the video man especially the end its comforting to know theres people like me out there feeling the same way about life and games. keep making videos bro
i was a pretty shy kid so i always tried always skiping multiplayer games but i always felt pretty lonely and it feels like i was playing for nothing but then i seen those achievement pop and that got me thinking why not get all of them and then BOOM every game i played i always tried to completed it but of course i was burn out so i tried multiplayer games and it was fun i enjoyed them so much that i started playing them everyday
Funny, this is the first time I've ever come across your channel and I'm a huge gamer. I actually started my gaming 'career' as a solo gamer but in the recent years I've been heavy into competitive games mainly because of friends. Feels super cliche, but the burn out I feel now when I play competitive games sucks! I don't know who you are but I think you helped me shine light on something in my life that I never knew I needed to address. Guess there really is something out here for everyone! Subscribed, commented, and liked :)
I tend to play multiplayer games alone, watching my brother tilt over his rocket league rank and experiencing that frustration myself isnt something I want to keep feeling. if I had a friend group I'd have to schedule sessions and I cant just quit mid-casual-match and jump to an entirely different game. For me playing alone is the default, though I do sometimes wish I had a group of people to play with
I’m on the opposite end of this. I’ve learned to appreciate solo gaming again due to my friends only playing competitive and sports games, buying it every single year and complaining how there’s “nothing new to play.” When in reality I’ve tried countless times to get them to play a co-op type game IE Borderlands, but they just shrug it off and continue paying the $60 (now $70 lmfao) every year to play the same game and continue complaining about there being “nothing exciting” So I definitely think games are as social as they can be now, but it all really depends on what you and your friends are into, given if they still game or not. (I know you said yours moved on but this is more so for anyone who stumbles across this comment.) Either way, if you ever want to make a new gaming friend or someone to nerd out about single player games throw me a message (: I think I’ve ranted and typed enough here lmao thanks for reading til the very end.
Play: Lethal Company Hunt Showdown Pavlov Shack (VR) Walkabout Minigolf (VR) I found many cool people in these games. There were others, but these are the most recent games I can think of.
@@girrockz112I had the same exact experience, all my friends only like playing comp games, so playing solo games like rpgs just feels good. for the first time I played Skyrim this summer and it was really the first time I found myself immersed in a world and that just grew my love of solo games, still love playing wit the boys sometimes tho
Lovely video mate. Being able to play alone gave me a realization that I don't need to share good moments with someone in order for them to be good. It also gives me a greater sense of freedom regarding that I can turn the game off whenever I want, without needing to wait for a match to end or to deal with friends asking for one last game. Great video!
This gen z perspective is very interesting. Great video! It’s cool to see someone younger come to an understanding older generations know. I miss the old couch co-op game experiences. Sharing a couch co-op game is a different experience than doing it online. Too bad not many games offer that anymore. Which is why I’m usually stuck playing through campaigns on my own.
OMG UR STORY IS SO CLOSE TO MINE. i was immo at val aswell, played siege and cs alot, but at some point ive just lost that enjoyment of the competitive and start to get rly upset of time and money that ive spent on these games, especially when school and exams started. videos like this helps alot. idk english well, but thank you!
Love this video. Great writing! I feel like it summarizes a lot of what I feel about gaming, without sounding jaded or depressed. You took words I didn't know I was looking for, right out of my mouth! I have struggled for a long time with the feeling that gaming just isn't fun, or something isn't the same. I dropped almost every single PVP game in favor of solo games, or co-op games, and god have I not been this happy in years! Thank you for these awesome words!
I started with the strange duality of playing lego games (star wars 2, indiana, batman 2) and not having anybody to play them with usually. Not only did it give me depression to pause and think about how empty of soul video games are, but it made me realize that there isn’t a lifeline for my emotions once I’m in the single player void. Having a player 2 or player 1 is like, “I may be drifting through space, but at least I’m tethered to you
The script felt a little ramble-y at times, but I was definitely interested in different parts as it went along. The editing is super solid, and the audio is calming and well recorded. I also really like the thumbnail, but im not an expert on that so idk. Either way, solid video, and I'm def subbing :)
@@Skyrimpenguin playing solo games was eye opening for imfurea and it helped him be more open minded to new experiences. he also learned to enjoy the moment more and not worry so much about the future
I’ve always preferred single player games. I always have a multiplayer game, but it’s the thing I did to socialize between single player games. Yeah, I played Little Big Planet 1 and 2, Grand Theft Auto 5, Destiny, Black Ops 3, Overwatch, Fortnite, and Final Fantasy 14…but the single player games were the ones that stuck out to me. Outside of Final Fantasy 14 and Little Big Planet 2, I really don’t look back on multiplayer gaming that fondly. The games I remember are the ones like Last of Us, Super Metroid, Hollow Knight, God of War 4, and the likes. I find that the games that I can beat within 30 hours tend to be the ones I like the best. After the 30th hour, I don’t really care anymore. In fact, if a story takes longer than 30 hours, outside of tears exceptions like Persona 5, Elden Ring, and Breath of the Wild…I just don’t like them. Pacing is everything to me and in my opinion, a 15 hour game has to try a lot harder with its pacing than a 50 hour game. Only a game like RDR2 has the ability to keep me actively engaged for that long. Even a game I love like Xenoblade Chronicles 3…loses me and forces me to take 6 months off to refresh because the combat has gotten too stale. I just prefer finite runtimes
Loved the video bro. I used to play alone all the time until I ran to a group of guys on a random match and since then we play everyday and honestly it made me a little happier knowing I have friends who I can disconnect from the world with, and stay up late laughing or talking about life and just being there for each other. I hope I meet them soon
Always harbored a single player supremacy mindset, glad to hear your stepping out of your boundaries. You should try disco Elysium genially, believe it's a very important piece of art :) [warning it is an isometric RPG]
Amazing video, absolute master piece. A few days ago i thought myself that life was going fast and i just needed some time to do nothing and just pause on everything thats going on.
Welcome to the algorhtim buddy! What important now is trying to ignore the pressure that comes with this and just keep making bangers like this! If you ever need a content homie, I'm here bro!
Listen here, pal. I don't know who you think you are, but I've got something important to say. You see, in this vast digital jungle, there are keyboard warriors and then there's me, the undisputed king of the chat. So buckle up, because you're about to get a lesson in internet etiquette. When I roll into a discussion, it's like a tornado of wisdom and wit. I don't type, I unleash a symphony of keystrokes that echo through the corridors of cyberspace. You might want to grab a notepad, because class is in session. I've seen memes that would make your grandmother blush and GIFs that could bring a tear to Chuck Norris' eye. My emoji game is so strong, it's practically a superpower. So when you step into my domain, be prepared to witness the digital prowess of a seasoned veteran, you don't disrespect my boy. Yeah, you heard it right. My boy, the unsung hero, the backbone of the squad, the true legend in the making, my glorious king. So, before you even think about throwing shade, consider this a friendly warning.
You have been reported. I am not a bot. I am a Volunteer RUclips moderator. I have numerous rules, which you may read in my post history, but 1 is the most important rule of all Watch your back and get used to this face kiddo, you’ll be seeing a lot of it.
I actually have the exact opposite situation as you. I've been a solo player for most of my gaming timeline. I'm the oldest child so I have always been the P1 and knows tech the most. Being a super introvert, I'm that person that spends days thinking about the story I just played through. (And that weirdo that solos in MMOs) However recently I've discovered how fun it is to have other people with you while playing games. It adds so much randomness and unexpected fun that you would never get while playing by yourself. While you do lose out the chance to reflect and think. It is another type of fun. But your perspective is really interesting! This video is well written and I really enjoyed it! You will blow up one day for sure.
Little bit late but great video. I was always sorta weird growing up, had good friends but not to play games with we just liked each other and didn't share any real hobbies. But because I've always played alone I always have tried to fill that gap with multiplayer games like overwatch, valorant, and league because I didn't want to be alone and wanted to try to make friends but recently I've been embracing single player games whether its souls games, gacha games, or calming games. I think everyone that's going through a rough time and likes games should watch this video. If you do decide to try out single player games I cant stress enough what he said, just keep playing games until you find your niche or multiple
as a introvert, I can play multiplayer games for a good chunk of time but after that I need to play singles for the next couple of days, even conversing online is draining to me.
It's kinda funny this is the first video in forever where I forced myself to not immediately scroll to the comments after the video starts and to instead give the video my full attention and what I got was a really profound video discussing the exact ideas that made me stop and really focus on the video in the first place. Awesome job with this man you deserve so many more subscribers.
Man that last part really got me. I have always played singleplayer games and I actually started playing more competetive games recently but I will never stop playing single player games, I loved you vidio ♥
I just can say wow the video is amazing! To behonest this is literally the fist comment I write in my life time, just to appreciate this good video. I hope u can keep up this vibe. Nice one.
This was really an interesting experience, I've never been that kind of guy to play single player games, except that I picked up Call Of Duty WWII couple of times, I've been playing games with my friends or rather strangers online, but I spent most of the time playing alone, competitive games can really get on your nerves and it's a great thing to sometimes make a change and spend your time doing something else for a bit, thank you for the video
Wow im sad I only now am getting recommend this video. This has summarized my gaming experience for the last 2 years. On another note your story telling, the creative mind, and your skill to have the viewer immersed in the video was amazing. This video really made me sit back and think on not only my life but also my gaming adventure recently. Thank you for your Art. Have an amazing day!
This video spoke to me because I've been playing competitively since 2008 and rarely look breaks to enjoy single player games but recently I hide offline, launch a single player game and relax.
>i just completed Titanfall 2 campaign and i get what ur saying playing alone is intimidating and sometimes scary. I'm casual player but trying to play more games as much as i can but it takes time and patience to complete all the missions in a game. > I feel kinda emotional after watching ur video, nice video essay :). >I was once backseat or player 2 while my cousins play the games, but now i play on my own speed. >The feeling of completing story or even a mission is so satisfying.
Glad you finally got to see the light in single player experiences. I feel like a lot of young people nowadays (especially those born after 2003, generally don't understand what its like to grow up in a world where video games are on a whole, meant to be single player experiences. Everything now is a battle royal or mmo or party game or a competitive multiplayer game and when single player games do come out, not many of those people would really be interested in trying them. Multiplayer can be some of the best and worst experiences in gaming. Grinding quota's with your friends in Lethal Company is definitely my fave multiplayer of the last 10 years because the game just doesn't allow you to take it too seriously. Something ridiculous will end up happening and you will all die of laughter. There are plenty of amazing games out there, single and multiplayer. I miss the days when I looked forward to the next Call of Duty because I knew it was going to be a complete AAA package. BO2 gets talked about a lot but its because it was the last time IMO, that a COD game came with a fantastic campaign, multiplayer and a great zombies experience. Now its just.....here's a 3 hour campaign we couldn't put resources into because our publisher wants us to focus on the battlepass and battle royale mode. If you have a PC, there is really no excuse because there are hundreds of top quality popular and niche single player experiences just waiting to become your next fave game. The earlier Assassin's Creed games (before Origins), the Bioshock series, Sleeping Dogs, The Arkham series, The Last of Us, David Cage's games like Heavy Rain and Detroit Become Human. There is literally something out there for everyone. You just have to be willing to tell the ranked lobbies to suck a duck and give yourself a break for once. Enjoy your hobby at your own pace.
thanks for making this video, a lot of it resonated with me. I play a handful of competitive games but i always transition through periods of single player games. The essence of self discovery and gripping narratives that make up single player games are comparable to things such as esports and our individual journeys through our lives, which you seem to touch on throughout the video, thanks for the time and effort man. Great video.
Gaming alone really changed my entire life. Growing up I had always played with friends or my brother and had always relied on the fact when I got online someone else would be so I could play with them. About 1-2 years ago I got put in a place where I had no one to play with. I fell in a bit of a depressive state and never felt like playing any games. I had played single player games in the past but even then I wasn't interested in playing them. I eventually forced myself to play games alone and figure out how I can re-gain this passion I once had but alone. Playing some multiplayer games wasn't all that easy so I started with single player games I had really wanted to play but never did. This sparked a huge passion within me and I felt excited for when I was gonna play the game again. This eventually lead to me fully venturing out and playing games like Halo and CoD which I found fun in playing alone now. I think it's a huge growth to learn how to play games alone and still have a great time.
This video came to me when I needed it the most. Had a terrible breakup, lost most of my buddies that I played comp with, and I have been stressed af about work. Going for a vacation tomorrow and even that feels stressful. I think I need to just sit back and take it all in, play some single-player games now and then, discover my likes and dislikes a little more. Thanks a lot for this video, 'twas therapeutic fr fr
Fantastic video! It's really interesting to see your perspective on this, as I feel I've had the exact opposite experience. I've played mostly single-player games throughout my entire life, and admittedly still do, and only now am I really starting to come around to online games to an extent. There's so many fun games out there that I'd been barring myself from experience, and... for what? To hold some sort of pride that I don't play the "hip games?" Nah man. Who cares about that? Games are meant to be played, and I'm going to continue broadening my horizons. Thank you for making this video, can't wait to see what you do next.
So interesting. I'm someone who was mostly a single player gamer all my life. Getting bored of going at it game after game and realizing that I would rarely get the satisfaction that sought-after. I almost considering quitting completely, but then, last year, at 33 years old, Overwatch 2 came out, and I gave it a shot, got me hooked instantly, competitive gaming brought me back and I have been playing the most I have in years!! Aside from a break to play Baldur's Gate 3 for a while, I can't stop having so much fun with it. It feels funny seeing you're the total opposite. Guess burnout goes both ways, lol.
this video is literally me, i always stop to appreciate a beautiful scenery like in elden ring or even minecraft with some shader, at certain times i even take a picture
@@totesfleisch258Cyberpunk is the only single player game that I’ve played more than 2 times. Night City is one of the best worlds in gaming
I felt the exact same until I played Telltale batman season 2 a game I was avoiding
2-3 hours of gaming after work alone is refreshing for me while everyone else is miserable with the same experience simply because they're too used to playing with friends.
yeah I feel that, I also got stuck in a rut when I never hopped on until friends got on and I'm glad now I can enjoy gaming on my own time.
Bruh 2-3 hours
Need more than that
I feel the same.
Think it's just introverts vs extroverts. Some people are refreshed by time alone, some by time with others. Thas why we got options boi
It’s not ur fault
Playing alone made me clinically depressed.
real
Well, you could go for platinum trophies
As an introvert I can't relate
Really? im solitary guy so i way prefer play alone and sometimes with friends. But i enjoy my gaming time alone fr
Flip the order of events for me lol
Same
Yep death stranding was a beautiful journey for someone like me who mainly plays single player games, the sense of connection with others was so special
i have to ask, did you play the Dark Souls games? what you're saying is pretty much what those games are about at their core
You gotta try Subnautica asap
@@DRGEngineer was just about to ask him the same.. we all know what *those* moments feel like..
Now it’s been about 2 years and I’m still friends with that group (which I know isn’t probably that long but to me, who never really had friends let alone a group, it was pretty important to me) and I can confidently say that my friends probably changed my life for the better
Edit: umm i didn’t realized I type this long of a comment….. sorry for the paragraph you don’t need to read it
no worries, good read
that sounds familiar to my experience. I'm kinda in the middle of all these perspectives. i've played minecraft, terraria, hollow knight, and some mario games on my own, but have hundreds of hours playing games with friends and.. besides hollow knight, i have much better memories playing games with my friends rather than on my own. i'm a social person, i love sharing experiences, and nowadays i can get kind of depressed when im always just doing something alone. there's something so special about having a couple people with you to joke and share the experience with
i just bought a bunch of specs for a pc im gonna build (6750xt + 5 7600), and i keep reminding myself that it's not something im just going to be using all alone in my room and end up depressed with. rather it's going to allow me to connect with my friends and new friends in a way that wasn't possible before. im really excited. life is good when you live it together with your squad 🙂🫡
and yeah, ur comment was a good read, lol
Congrats, i feel proud for you
proud of you man
Nah ur cool nice read bro
I’ve always been a single player gamer since my childhood in the 90s. I never got into online until I dipped my toes into it near the end of high school. Even when I got my laptop and tried several multiplayer games, I was always bad at them and was never able learn the ropes to be competitive. Now with the whole discussion of how live services are dying and single player being on the rise again, I can’t help be feel at home with all the titles that are being released and making my Wishlist larger than my Steam library.
Yeah, 2023 has been a great year for single player games!
How are live service games dying? they are played more than ever before
Many live service games are just managed badly, like for example destiny 2 or some MMORPGs, but people still keep playing them somehow despite giving them really bad reviews on steam
Some other games just fail to introduce actual new stuff, like cs:go, so people eventually get bored of it and leave, like myself, but again.. player numbers are still insanely high, because some other beginner took my place.
To this day I rarely ever touch multiplayer, whether because I don't have a mic or simply hate putting up with people (or feeling the guilt of making something less fun)
Never see myself stopping playing single player. Maybe I missed out on the golden age of multiplayer but I also get to miss out on the negative feelings of having my favorite multiplayer franchises go to shit.
@@Verchiel_ I play everything, there are all kinds of live service games.. its not just pvp.. there are pvp and pve live service games, or games which do both
And also.. too many people suffer from the sunk-cost-fallacy.
If something goes to trash there is a simple solution:
Play a better game.
It is why World of Warcraft is on a decline and why Final Fantasy 14 for example is rising up since years and now basically already rivals WoW in popularity
you cant generalize it like that. There are so many games, you just need to be open for new stuff and you gonna find something you like
Absolutely insanely impressive writing and commentary, I love finding channels like this and keep at it man

🤣 I also think I'm happier when I'm not playing those games
Yes THIS IS ME. I was like “I haven’t had fun grinding this bulls** for weeks, why am I doing this? Why did I spend money on this?” Bleghh. I was 100% in a rut, and still hop on for some SnD//prisoner rescue - But the player base really is nasty. What happened to friendly banter and cooperation? :(
Playing phantom liberty reminded me why I play games, to feel emotion, discover cool stories, and have fun
Played hotline Miami 1/2 and dusk last week, and my GOD.
Totally agree 👍... I am in same situation as u but urge comes and go to jump into multiplayer games..

4:00 Bro yelled "Yankee with no brim" as a battle cry LMAO
The only people i play with are my ten year old cousin and his friends one fortnite and try to imagine playing with that so ive always been by mysefl
Bro, please keep making more videos like this where you share your thoughts and emotions openly. I have subscribed just now because I can relate with so much of the experiences you went through.
Went from playing with friends to playing alone and depression hit so hard a gaming session felt painful to sit through when will the days end
w vid, i actually have the complete opposite perspective where i was too scared to play competitive/online games because of what people had to say or do; so honestly it’s fun hearing about what’s it’s like the other way around

Being a 90s kid and being the older brother, the concept of never playing a single player game and always and only playing multiplayer games is wild to me. For me games have always been about single player/campaign and the multiplayer was always an after thought or extra flavor thrown into the game.

Beautiful video, deserves way more attention and interaction, you'll blow up one day if u keep putting out this high of quality videos i promis
Ong and his voice soothing n captivating asf
as "cringe" as the OW at 03:44 can be looked back on as. those moments are the absolute PEAK of gaming in my mind.
I appreciate your genuine breeze through your gaming journey. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Competitive gaming is possibly the biggest thief of talent/potential in human history.
9to5
Not necessarily it be the gaver sometimes
Interesting thought
The more you talked about gaming in your life i realized that it sounded so similar to my experience so it was a crazy moment when i realized we were the same age. Thanks for the video man especially the end its comforting to know theres people like me out there feeling the same way about life and games. keep making videos bro
i was a pretty shy kid so i always tried always skiping multiplayer games but i always felt pretty lonely and it feels like i was playing for nothing but then i seen those achievement pop and that got me thinking why not get all of them and then BOOM every game i played i always tried to completed it but of course i was burn out so i tried multiplayer games and it was fun i enjoyed them so much that i started playing them everyday
making friends is so worth it
easiest way is to go places where there are people like you
Funny, this is the first time I've ever come across your channel and I'm a huge gamer.
Really great video! Liked the story arc of your gaming evolution, really entertaining. Earned a sub ❤
I tend to play multiplayer games alone, watching my brother tilt over his rocket league rank and experiencing that frustration myself isnt something I want to keep feeling. if I had a friend group I'd have to schedule sessions and I cant just quit mid-casual-match and jump to an entirely different game. For me playing alone is the default, though I do sometimes wish I had a group of people to play with
I got into this early on, my friends all moved away from gaming slowly. People say just make more but games arent as social as they used to be
I’m on the opposite end of this.
I’ve learned to appreciate solo gaming again due to my friends only playing competitive and sports games, buying it every single year and complaining how there’s “nothing new to play.”
When in reality I’ve tried countless times to get them to play a co-op type game IE Borderlands, but they just shrug it off and continue paying the $60 (now $70 lmfao) every year to play the same game and continue complaining about there being “nothing exciting”
So I definitely think games are as social as they can be now, but it all really depends on what you and your friends are into, given if they still game or not. (I know you said yours moved on but this is more so for anyone who stumbles across this comment.)
Either way, if you ever want to make a new gaming friend or someone to nerd out about single player games throw me a message (:
I think I’ve ranted and typed enough here lmao thanks for reading til the very end.
Play:
Lethal Company
Hunt Showdown
Pavlov Shack (VR)
Walkabout Minigolf (VR)
I found many cool people in these games.
Gen Z still does couch co-op. I am Gen Z and I used to play split-screen games on PS3 & PS4 almost every single day.
Thanks!
yea I definitely need to work on my scriptwriting and revision 😅
Can you summarize for me?
@@Skyrimpenguin playing solo games was eye opening for imfurea and it helped him be more open minded to new experiences. he also learned to enjoy the moment more and not worry so much about the future
@@Skyrimpenguinstage 4 brain rot lol
Brilliant video" I love how how you condensed the video into under 20 minutes long meanwhile some creators would yap on for an extra hour!
You should try disco Elysium genially, believe it's a very important piece of art :)
[warning it is an isometric RPG]
Disco Elysium seems dope I'll definitely try it out!
solid recommend
Amazing video, absolute master piece. A few days ago i thought myself that life was going fast and i just needed some time to do nothing and just pause on everything thats going on.
I am exactly 1 millionth view dude nice.
Welcome to the algorhtim buddy! What important now is trying to ignore the pressure that comes with this and just keep making bangers like this! If you ever need a content homie, I'm here bro!
bro I remember watching your multiverses video when it came out, its crazy you saw my video. Ill definitely hit you up man!
Talking shit on cod? Run it up 1v1 me again 😂
So, before you even think about throwing shade, consider this a friendly warning.

its honestly the most beautiful video iv watched like ever thank you so much for sharing this video :)
This video was awesome and honestly I needed something like this. I recently got fired from my job. Usually gaming helps me process tough situations.
You will blow up one day for sure.
didn’t expect that ending but never heard something more true. Not just that but the entire video is relatable. Loved it keep it up man
Little bit late but great video.
After all that he plays that song and I am flooded with nostalgia and emotion.
I just can say wow the video is amazing! To behonest this is literally the fist comment I write in my life time, just to appreciate this good video. I hope u can keep up this vibe. Nice one.
This was really an interesting experience, I've never been that kind of guy to play single player games, except that I picked up Call Of Duty WWII couple of times, I've been playing games with my friends or rather strangers online, but I spent most of the time playing alone, competitive games can really get on your nerves and it's a great thing to sometimes make a change and spend your time doing something else for a bit, thank you for the video
starting elden ring as your first game alone is crazy i would expect some to get mad but you seemed pretty chill about the game
Im do happy i saw this.
This nearly made me cry because i could reflect it to my self 😢
dude this was deep you need more subs. love the quality man
Hey man, great vid!
I appreciate the intimacy in the talking, it really resonates with me.
hope you keep finding good new experiences!
This video spoke to me because I've been playing competitively since 2008 and rarely look breaks to enjoy single player games but recently I hide offline, launch a single player game and relax.
4:15 damn bro you sound soo happy, i've never felt that kind of joy playing games cuz my surrounding don't play games
>i just completed Titanfall 2 campaign and i get what ur saying playing alone is intimidating and sometimes scary.
“WINNABLE” lmfao the way we’ve all used that with the same excitement and fever
Bro that was an banger Video!
Ur voice is so nice to just sit back and listen to you!
Keep up 🤗
MAN, THE ENDING I mean it THE ending gave me goosebumps all over my body! It's insane!
I love your editing style. Can't wait to check out more of your content!
This is me in a nutshell, with less competitive prowess.
Did finish all of the souls game though with the exception of Sekiro.
W self reflection at the end. Loved the video brother.
Guess burnout goes both ways, lol.
this video is literally me, i always stop to appreciate a beautiful scenery like in elden ring or even minecraft with some shader, at certain times i even take a picture
this made me so happy, thank you so muuh for making this!!
