The reason season pass holders are critical is because they know their stuff, have probably been fans for years and remember what the park used to be like and how it seems to gradually be getting worse rather than trying to improve. What Amanda Thompson and Co. should do is look carefully at the feedback from their true fans and do something about it rather than throwing their toys out of the pram and crying about being criticised. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.
We all remember the BPB of old, and modern day BPB just doesn’t stand up to those heights sadly. A lot of the coasters are the same but the guest experience certainly isn’t 🙁
Noah's ark and that big Gyro swing were also closed/ removed and not replaced. It's the lack of new rides that worries me about PB they are getting left behind. Nobody expects new rides every season but I would expect something new every 3-4 years just to stay competitive.
Crazy when you list out all the removed rides. It’s very sad thinking back on great years spent at Pleasure Beach. So many rides gone. Still can’t accept the Wild Mouse was torn down. The area around there now is awful looking. Hopefully better days are coming for Pleasure Beach.
Your comparison to other industries is spot on. I’m a Newcastle United fan and under a previous owner whose name I still can’t say without swearing I complained so much and so loudly. But damn I love that team. I complained because I wanted to see them succeed. And it’s exactly the same here. We want BPB to succeed. We want it to thrive so your son and my niece and nephew can enjoy it, so their children can enjoy it. I’m not a pass holder but I’ve still certainly had opinions here and there, especially now I’m disabled and am having to learn how to navigate the world all over again which means finding unnecessary barriers that need to be addressed. I think you’ve handled this really well.
For any business to improve, they have to listen to their customers. Like many others that watch your vlogs we love BPB and desperately want to see it succeed. Spent last weekend at the BPB and had a great time even though the weather wasn't the greatest. We are making plans to visit again next year. Your comments are always honest, so don't feel like you have to justify yourself because of this. keep up the good work it's much appreciated 👍
There’s a phrase in life… don’t bite the hand that feeds you. It’s dangerous management to call out the people who year in year out give you instant £££ capital before a coaster even leaves a station.
1:45 feels like projection on Amanda's end. No sane Pleasure Beach fan is comparing the park to Disney. If anything, with the direction the park has been taking (I. E. removal of non-rider tickets, significant price hikes, and ride removals with few replacements just to name a few) it almost seems like she really would like to turn the park into a premier resort like Disney, except Pleasure Beach is just not meant to be like that at all. Call me mean, but these responses give me the impression that she isn't actually listening to the critiques being given and just dismisses them as "haters gonna hate".
Very ill advised comments by Amanda here, GT would never have uttered such opinions, as back then the customer was everything. I applaud all the investment in difficult times that she has made over the years in various aspects of the park. It's a difficult position that they are in, having to try and sell a heavily depleeted ride offering for a lot more money. The problem is Blackpool hasn't stood still during this time, and there's a lot more attractions now that offer better value for money and a better guest experience and don't shut at 5/6 pm.
I don’t know where to start. Season pass holders should be considered the parks best customers. To dismiss them almost as an irritant betrays a staggering disregard for the first principle of marketing - a deep understanding of your customers. I wonder how long it’s been since Amanda “walked the park” and had real conversations with guests rather than hiding behind her PR people? Isn’t the carnival/fair ground business about interacting with your guests and being a show-person? Scott, you know my views on the “walk around pass” and how they’ve lost so many people because non-riders will no longer come into the park with their family because they won’t pay the full price to walk around. Yes I agree theme parks have to evolve - but BPB is a “super” fairground and they have lost sight of that. It seems to me that the management of BPB have lost touch with the customers (even though the customer facing staff give great service) - the high ups have stayed in their ivory offices and they they now don’t have the insights anymore. Amanda needs to get out more and talk to REAL people.
She's so disconnected from reality in every way. She's grown up a spoilt brat and has never had to work any form of normal job ever. She had rich family and then got handed control of a park. She's a Tory supporter and really cannot relate to her visitors in any way.
My daughter rode Icon for the first time a few weeks ago. She said that Pleasure Beach does not deserve Icon as it's too good for the park. Out of the mouth of babes 😆
I hate when companies just blame they fans like a moody teenager when they have valid criticisms instead of acknowledging the problems and sorting things out
Really balanced this Scott 👍 I can see how it must be difficult hearing criticism pretty regularly when things like Valhalla (which must’ve been way over budget) plus good food and shop options have come through this year. But it’s a bit short sighted to call out the loyal fans who do champion a lot still (big one, grand national etc.) - I always see it as wanting the best for BPB, not just slagging the place off
You're more than entitled to your opinion mate. As season pass holders, you put more money into the Pleasure Beach than anyone, she should be aware that enthusiasts are going to be more critical. She could've simply said we don't have the money to do xyz and everyone would understand.
Yes you're totally right, fans do care and criticism should be seen as a good thing - the powers that be don't get to experience the park like fans do. A good manager/owner will listen to the criticism and act on it where possible. I've heard a lot of valid criticism where people are complaining about food or operations or whatever else and sometimes they have good solutions to fix these issues - and these should be listened to and acted upon. They should be grateful that they have a large team of fans who are willing to share their thoughts - some companies pay a lot of money for that kind of feedback.
Agreed, and thank you. It doesn't take someone with a business degree to see the easy fixes that could help Pleasure Beach improve their guest experience
Excellent commentary, my friend! Though I'm not nearly as familiar with BPB as I am with my home park, Cedar Point, you touch on some universal pros and cons of parks and their season pass holders. We are all entitled to our opinions, but I do get tired of the negative comments by passholders who seem entitled to get what they want all the time. Regardless, probably not a good idea for the park to say anything negative about their guests. Most of my coaster friends are passholders, and although they certainly get their money's worth regarding rides and food, they tend to spend more than the average guest on merchandise. A lot more. Cheers!
Hi Scott. Not a pass holder at at the parks but totally agree where you are coming from. They should listen to their customers as at the end of the day it's them that's pays their wages.
Maybe one day next summer when Blackpool is packed. Amanda could think about why the park is dead. The cost in this day and age is too much for most people, especially families to decide to go on the day. They should bring in a structured timed ticket system and people can pay per hour even. I am positive they would see bigger crowds. BPB need to know their audience and their location. They can't keep charging premium prices for, let's face it, a non premium experience. I wouldn't blame season pass holders for voting with their feet and wallets and then see what Amanda has to say.
The cost is one thing, and people are 100% feeling the pinch. But for me its the combination of high cost and poor product. If the cost is high but the product is high quality, I go home more than satisfied and I remember that way more than I think about the high cost I paid. Paultons Park is a great example of this. They charge a high price, but every day I've spent there has been extremely good from a guest experience standpoint.
@@yourexperienceguide I agree with that sentiment whole heartedly! Im from manchester originaly and grew up with holidays and days out to Blackpool in the 70s,80s and 90s, I loved it when they used to charge at the actual rides to go on them OR you could buy a book of tickets with the various a, b, c ect designations for the rides and could mix and match those ,( as in if you were a family with kids you could buy a book of tickets that had mre rides in it for the kids ect) , I loved (and still do ) the pleasure beach BUT as as been mentioned its the cost since they brought in the wristbands , or whatever they have now AND taken away * as i have been told to just buy an entrance band to walk around the park (not everyone can or wants to go on the rides such as a family who bring thier grandparents with them on holiday to spend time with thier grandkids ( i mean lets face NOT many 70 to 80 yr olds will want to ride a coaster or even wouldnt be allowed with health probs) ..I loved my coasters and rode the big one NOW im a lot older (im 53 ) and due to health problems such as having 2 strokes and blood presure i can no longer ride the big coasters such as the big one, icon (wich i would love to ride but sadly cant take the chance) Luckiy i can still do the clasic woodies ect BUT as i now live down in Bristol for the past 18 yrs ..not visited it for yrs and i think the LAST time i was in Blackpool it was an October about 15 yrs ago on a weeks visit home to see family so went to Blackpool for an over night stay as my partner had never been ! As for someone elses comment about it becoming a museaum with the classic rides .....I know parks have to change , upgrade and rides come to the end of thier NATURAL LIFE as the older they get the more cost and maintenance they need BUT i do like the pleasure beach for its mix of classic woodies and other rides that have survived such as the ghost train, alice in wonderland , carousell gallopers and the river caves , ther are NOT many places that have these old classic historic rides (apart from Margate that reopend as a heritage park ..and i think some of the pleasure beaches oder rides went there such as the whip but are still in storage ther and never been set up) and modern rides. YES i know they use the old space excuse but tbh the park may cover a small footprint but they DO pack a hell of a lot in there ....its just when they get rid of a ride be it through age (the mouse) OR as in trauma towers case through fire damage they just leave it open space OR landscape it , that whole area infront of where trauma towers used to be is just a massive waste of space in my opinion ..(ooo look im moaning now too 🤣) BUT its just cause Blackpool pleasure beach has a special place in my heart ! As for Amanda Thomson well TBH i have NEVER liked her (she is NOT like her dad Geofrey sadly) I remember watching the tv show on the pleasure beach and even then she struck me as an entitled so and so who only runs it as a bussines (which at the end of the day it is) that brings her in the money BUT she dont give a fig about the clientel and is allways rude and has a pop whenever she can ...dont bite the hand that feeds you comes to mind i think tbh she resents the fact that she OBV felt obliged / expected to take over the running of BPB when her dad passed as it was a family buissness and to keep it in the thomson family, and sometimes that comes across in her snipes such as this one on season ticket holders ..even if it wasnt meant that way it could have been worded better by her ...AND unlike her dad for him it was a passion and cared about the park and what customers thought with her its just abussness and money maker sadly ..well thats the vibe i get off her anyhow! PS im not sure IF you knew this BUT the water chute that was there ACTUALY came from BELLE VUE IN Manchester when that closed down in the 80s! sorry im a bit of a geek on things like that ! 😉🤣 And i actualy rode it when it was at the plesure beach in the 90s ....BUT think i was lucky on that as it allways seemed to be closed more than open (mind you as it came from Bellvue and was there in the 70s it had a good run of life over 30 yrs in exitance!)
Thompson is always very combative when responding to any criticism. I remember watching your video on the re-opening of Valhalla, she even had a go at people in the speech she gave 😂 Personally I think when any leader or executive is too well known it means problems for the park - I'd rather they were just quietly working in the background getting things done and improving the guest experience
I think what Amanda has to realise is that season pass holders are what keeps the parks alive. They spend a lot at the start of the year for free entry, not as much as non-season pass holders who visit at least once a year, but season pass holders are clearly love the Pleasure Beach, and boost their visitor numbers. Most spend on extras like meals, merch, ride photos, shows and more, thanks to the discounts. Sure, they can be critical at times, but if Amanda listened a little more to her fans then maybe the Pleasure Beach would be a better place.
I’m on the fence with this one. I think as far as park development goes BPB has let its fans down. Traveling abroad and seeing parks that used to look at BPB as “the coaster capital of the world” and now the park in my eyes has done so little in ride hardware over the 20 years I have been visiting the park that they have not only been left behind but has no real buzz about it anymore. So much gone and not replaced. The constant “we have no space” excuse being flown around. 20 years ago you would hear teasers of new coasters coming and you know what it was good PR even if nothing came of it. With ride hardware looking more tired than ever I think soon we could be seeing the coaster/ride count drop further. For my real issue is the park has been so stale now all the rides are classics so people visit the place like it’s a museum. Might as well hand the keys to English heritage if we only get 1 new coaster in 30 years. Liseberg has it right with nothing too old and new additions everywhere (and a far superior hotel) no strong themes just quality rides and good upkeep. Renewing old rides with improved versions. But yeah season passes are clearly to blame for downfall of bpb 😂 gotta blame something so have a good kick at those who are just eager to get something NEW AND THRILLING! Build it and they will come. (Unless you make an advert for a garden centre with not actually clearly telling people what the product is again)
I never like a video before seeing it through to the end but you've already made some excellent points and the one which I go by is that enthusiasts make comments because they care and want to see these parks do well.
Couldn't agree more every fan of anything will always have an opinion good or bad, regardless of what the opinion is dosent mean they love the thing they have an opinion on any less
I do feel that what Amanda said in the podcast has been blown out of context and proportion and not everyone fully listened to what she said . It's like with most things in life if you go a lot you will naturally see negatives . A family business like BPB cannot easily fix everything overnight . BPB already has lowered the pricing to £33 a day for next season and introduced a 2 day ticket over March weekends for £50 . The park also is making many improvements such as retracking the big one and fixing things like the scenes in the river caves so I firmly believe feedback is being listened to. She really wants people to have a great day out and not focus on little things . I personally feel she has done a great job carrying the park through some very challenging times and fully acknowledged that it has not been easy and I am sure acknowledged they have not got everything right . Ultimately Amanda has done a incredible amount to make pleasure beach what it is such as design the Big Blue& Boulevard Hotels, Reimagining Valhalla and developing Icon among many more . She also leads what is arguably one of the worlds best production companies and works extremely hard behind the scenes as well which is no mean feat and I applaud her for this it cannot be easy especially with the amount of criticism she mentioned she gets sometimes. I do not see anything wrong with what she said in the podcast though she emphasised how grateful she and the family are for all the support over the years .What she was saying is that regular visitors to the park sometimes focus so much on things like peeling paint and very minor details that they essentially forget to have fun. It has been blown way out of proportion she is and always has been incredibly respectful of regular fans as they have helped the park to continue its incredible legacy. I cannot wait to be back at the park on opening weekend I went there for the first time this year and truly fell it love with it and loved your video showcasing the parks history. I also cannot wait to get back on Icon which is truly a world class ride and also to get drenched on Valhalla
It definitely wasn’t blown out of proportion, it was taken how it was given, a dig at regulars who don’t say everything is perfect. It’s not the first time shots have been fired at fans, it won’t be the last. The park has been through some tough times, but it’s a shadow of its former self, easy to see this after visiting for 30+ years. I’ve listened to the podcast several times, my opinion hasn’t changed.
Hi Scott I very rarely comment on your posts but I agree 100% with what you have spoken about I can hear the passion and anger in your voice as you speak and the frustration over the comments from the podcast. Criticism does show that you care be it good or bad and as a loyal customer you want to see the park thrive at all times. Cable cars and pirate ship went and never replaced either take care keep the up the passion.
Im a very passionate alton towers fan and have been since i can remember 20+ years ago , ive got thousands of pounds worth of merch , ive seen the park go through many changes , some good and some bad , the praise is a driving point and criticism helps them to improve and hearing it from regular visitors and people who are enthusiastic about something will always have praise and crisitsm, ill always back towers but i also will voice my opinion when i feel i need to and the problems are getting rectified because they're listening to us.
I love the honesty I'm very critical most of the time it's because we are street wise and don't stand for the rubbish they tell us if it wasn't for pass holders the parks would shut !!!!!
A long list of removed rides (you missed the tea cups) and not a lot added. The unfortunate consequence of moving towards a POP park. And I can see more going before we get anything else. The park is clearly in a big hole (in part due to the failure of icon to boost numbers). Hope they have deep enough pockets to turn things round but the last 10-15 years have seen a steady decline.
Bite the hand that feeds you... We adore Blackpool pleasure beach ❤ but thats not the way to attract new visitors with comments like that. Thanks for addressing this!
Whether you’re a season pass holder or not. If you’re paying for something, regardless of what it is then you’re allowed an opinion, no matter what that opinion is. Amanda is an utter disgrace. She is a shambles and single handedly destroying this place. Because of this comment I won’t be visiting next season and I’m sure I won’t be the only one. Not only will this impact the park but locally businesses who rely on people coming to the park from further distances and using their b&bs etc. The sooner she sells up and leaves the better for everyone at pleasure beach and Blackpool as a whole.
Or better yet stay in the family, but somebody else in the family running it, I think Morgan would do a good job as he seems to be a lot like Geoffrey haven’t spoken to him in person.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I only run a small business but fully accept feedback good or bad especially if it’s going to help me improve things.
I can’t really say much as I have only a pass holder for two seasons . Next year I have not renewed as a 30% increase for nothing new just didn’t work for us
I do wonder how much of a success this season would be counted as if no season pass holders had attended at all. It’s bad form to insult your core customer. As you pointed out, history doesn’t bode well and certainly doesn’t exclude negative feedback.
I’m somewhat flabbergasted with the comments that have been made. Our family parts with the best part of £500 per year for season passes and to be called out like this is insulting. We visit about 10 times a year. Never have we (my family) compared them to a big corporation theme park. We love Blackpool but yes at times we have been critical of the park for what seems like backwards moves and for things that we think would improve the park from a guest perspective, such as the scanning tickets at the station or lock of paint here n there. If you’re really suggesting that you can’t afford a few tins of paint here or there then the park finances are in dire straights, yet last time I checked they wasn’t. Yes the fan base scrutinise a bit too heavily such as lights on icon or when ride removals happen, but we’re fans, we want to see the place thrive. The thing that pained me most was the way that she spoke about her love for live entertainment and that people go to themeparks and remember more the entertainment than they do riding a ride. Well I’m sorry, I remember my rides on log flume, traumatiser, big one, red force, even my getting lost in the maze… but I’ve seen hot ice three times in the last 10 years and the eclipse show and I can’t remember a single thing about them haha. Utter nonesence and I feel so alienated as a customer. I can’t do anything about the fact we already have next years passes, but unless there’s a uturn and a very visable one at that, this will be our last season.
Completely understand where you’re coming from James. I still remember my first rides on the Grand National but the ice show is forgettable, I didn’t understand the comments about shows being more memorable than rides.
As an older season pass holder, I have been going to Pleasure Beach since the 1970s. Simply put, I just want Pleasure Beach to be successful. The time to start worrying is when there are no complaints, because that's when people have lost interest. I`ve been a director and now run my own company, and it's sometimes really frustrating. I am guessing this was an unguarded moment for Ammada. It does happen; she just wants Pleasure Beach to be the best, like everyone else; otherwise, she would have sold the place years ago, taken the money, and walked away. See you at the ERCT tomorrow; if it's as good as last time, it will be brilliant.
I've been a regular visitor to BPB since i was a child in the '80s I think that this years visit shall be my last, its probably a combination of things but the park has lost is character and its "magic" Valhalla and icon are special but everything else feels like it could use some TLC and much of the park just feels like its half open Such a shame
So true what you said! Completely agree, for me I love the pleasure beach and don't moan as its personally my favourite park in the country, I live in Blackpool so have A huge soft spot for the place, I've been 26 times this year including journey to hell which was fantastic, I'm also coming this Saturday to your event which i cant wait for, bit harsh what was said about season pass holders, I always buy A bit of food, I own the big one and icon wooden models, nano coasters and all magnets, we are not all like that it's A bit harsh bppb seem to think so and tar us all with the same brush..........love pleasure beach and always will personally, ICON is still my no1 in the country 😊❤
You have a right of input ,you like alot of people are and have paid in x amount of cash into the pleasure beach for tickets etc so it's your right as a valued customer. Ime sure amanda didn't mean any harm she has alot of business to look after must be mind blowing at times.
As you said guest experience has declined so much that even the decline in quality of 20 years ago would seem like an improvement over the current quality. Parks should strive to improve over time and being upset that your guests expect it to at least not get worse is damning evidence that management doesn’t care.
Yeah BPB is odd and i cant stick up for them. Ive visited Alton a lot this year and its been the worse they have had. We are season pass holders because we love the place, want to see them thrive and contiune to be better.
Thompson needs to give her head a shake, literally. She needs to listen to the parks fan base, specially head enthusiasts such as your experience guide. Leading the way with vlogs and HONEST opinions. Very minimal if any complaints, just advice and opinion, these opinions could change so many areas of the park, instead, fans alienated on a comment before Valhalla’s reopening. Every business has its core fan base with opinion is absolutely spot on. With Blackpool falling apart around the pleasure beach, it’s so important that the company runs with the ideas and customer feedback. Instead of moaning at the fanbase for being honest, throw some money at the front of the park and fix the S+S tower that is just sat there as a glorified telephone mast. Season pass holders literally fund the open season prep and make opening possible. I believe in my opinion that we just want it to succeed financially and I don’t think they realise the importance of their fan base. Open the doors, get involved with the top enthusiasts and give them something that will improve positivity. Rant over guys sorry :)
@pleasurebeachexperience. massively Scott, I've noticed in my local area around the West County, the operator GWR has often had short trains, lack of disabled assistance and very uncomfortable seats on the intercity routes
Very good video, I think a lot of people forget just how many rides have been closed and how very few new rides have come. It's actually quite depressing to think about just how much was lost.
Imagine if Willy Wonka had given the chocolate factory to Veruca Salt. That’s what happened to Pleasure Beach. Last time I went we paid over £200 for the family and got on about 3 rides. It’s a shadow of its former self. Won’t be going again.
It's just like when you have a go at a close friend if you didn't care about them you wouldn't have a go at them. She needs to get a grip and maybe keep that to herself.
It's funny she says don't compare us to Disney when BPB inspired Disneyland in the first place, and in fact Disney are behaving the exact same way at this point in time when there are massive financial failures at the cinema box office: blame the most loyal fans for not liking and accepting a subpar product. £150 for a season ticket to BPB when £100 or £130 gets you one for Alton Towers (the latter with parking) instead just at the surface shows what loyal fans are rightfully complaining about. Towers has a new coaster in the works, where is BPB's next ride? Is there even going to be one at this rate?
I would never complain about Blackpool plessure beach unless things are not running well that day, it's going to be such a shame that ice blast is going to be taken out of the park next year 😢
As a season pass holder its hard not to take the comments to heart. Do we moan yes ! Why ?because we care. Thats the managements job to stift through the moans and deal with the genuine Issues . As much as i love BPB ..theres a lot of issues and this is reflected in the vast Staff turnover and low Attendance throughout the last few years. Hopefully the Issues get Addressed and theres a brighter future ahead for BPB ...
Exactly, regular visitors will spot issues and will no doubt comment on them. The thing is, so will the general public. Rust all over the steel coasters in the public eye isn't a good look whether a pass holder or one time visitor sees it.
What I don’t like about BPB is there card only rule. Props give where there due because at least you can give cash in for a BPB card. However they’ve failed on schools trips, every child would love to go on a school trip to a theme park, and should be able to spend their money, however all they can spend it on is for a teddy bear on a game, all food is card only all drinks are card only, although children will probably bring their own lunch (if they even allow it) this is still a problem because I don’t like our society becoming cashless, it’s too easy to just tap your card away without knowing how much your spending.
No-one knows a park better than people who go every other week, they'll be far more invested than GP who pay to visit once a year and won't notice any long-term problems with the park. There's a place for both, and to disregard such a key amount of guests is a huge oversight I think.
I don’t usually comment on these videos but I’m a regular viewer and I have to agree with others: the place has lost itself. Take for example just how dead the park is these days when even the most diehard of PB fans are commenting on it on a somewhat regular basis, especially when the rest of the town is heaving yet you’ve got tumbleweeds rolling around the park. It’s a crying shame but honestly instead of attacking people who have been lifelong supporters of the park Amanda should listen to the criticism and take it on board. So many rides have vanished over the years with next to no replacement and what’s there now is beginning to look tired. Look at when it was free entry and wouldn’t close until gone midnight especially during the illuminations, now the park just sits there closed when the piers and the prom are absolute chaos! Sorry Amanda but you need to make some serious changes soon! The park was never made to be a major theme park like it’s trying to be, get it back to its roots of pay per ride and I’m sure with the right investment and some new rides that park will be flourishing again! Great video by the way Scott!
When you listen to the podcast it does sound much better in context. Great point Scott, your biggest fans are always your biggest critics. It is easy to take criticism the wrong way but when it is from your fan base it normally driven from passion and loyalty to the park as they want the park to the best it can be. I also don't think it is a bad thing that die hard fans feel like they own part of the park as they are fully emotionally invested in it. Those fans are likely to be for effective at promoting a brand than any advertising campaign. Certainly a thought provoking video and you offered a very well balanced viewpoint, considering you certainly fall into the category of where the comment was aimed - LOL
I listened to the podcast twice before I made any comments on social media, and a third time before recording this. I don’t see why those comments had to be made.
@@yourexperienceguide I agree the way the comments came across was not ideal. It would have been possible to communicate the same thing but with a more positive spin. It must be difficult in a live interview though. I don't think it is a negative thing that PB have a loyal fan base, who as you rightly pointed out are their harshest critic but their biggest supporters.
I understand where Amanda Thompson is coming from, there is a minority of somewhat arrogant enthusiasts in the community (across all parks). It's definitely not fair, however, to use this as a blanket description for all fans, especially those who have supported the park over many years. While some criticism or suggestions may be unreasonable from enthusiasts who don't fully understand a particular subject matter (e.g: when it comes to technical operations), criticism about park operations is usually valid. This is what is most visible from an enthusiast/guest's perspective, things like ride efficiency, cleanliness, upkeep of the park, guest service and value for money. When a ride is consistently running at a subpar capacity or an area of the park feels tired or in disrepair, discussing it is fair game in my opinion.
At the end of the day a business is not immune from criticism whether they're family owned or owned by billionaire investors, and BPB is a shadow of its former glorious self.
The park director, like any of us, are perfectly entitled to their opinions and like any of us, entitled to post it how ever they see fit to do so. Its as simple as that.
The truth is enthusiasts are such a small percentage of theme park revenue that if a few dozen get the huff and don't renew their annual passes, it will not even spoil their day. If I'm honest, I'm surprised you put this video out about her interview. You've earnt money out her park, be in running events there or making videos at her park, why would you rub her up the wrong way by responding? That's just asking to be bared!
@@coastersteve Enthusiasts are a big enough percent of revenue, even more at PB as Enthusiasts are the only people seeming to go there at the moment. I went is the Summer Holidays and it was packed on the sea front, but not at the park. Big Dipper was walk on and so was Infusion, with other rides top que line wait being 25 Minutes. Half of the people i saw there did at least have cameras filming themselves talking and showing off the PB Merch. Compare it to Towers, Thorpe and Flamingo land at Summer, it's quite concerning.
We live in a more noticeable world now through social media. That everyone is opinionated but then also offended. Like you open comment it's not just Theme Parks, it's Sport, if not sport its transport, or government, etc. I haven't seen or heard the podcast, main thing is us as fans, don't know what goes on behind closed doors, and sure Amanda is trying her best as she inherited the park in her eyes. But then also can expect a degree of public criticism
Very balanced view that Scott pal. I wonder in Amanda would be making these comments if everyone stopped buying Season Passes? As other coments have already said, you don't bite the hand that feeds you. I haven't renewed for next year as I didn't agree with the 30% price increase, and after being taken for granted with the comments in the podcast, I'm glad I haven't. How out of touch with reality do you have to be, to make comments like that in the public domain? Taking a year off from BPB next year as I've visited 16 parka abroad this year and I'm planning on increasing that number in 2024.
We've heard rumours over the years that passes will be scrapped, and then there was the £300 rumours as well, obviously neither have happened but there was the price increase which I don't blame them for but the park needs to give guests something new to experience if the prices are going to keep going up.
Does the BPP pass get you entry to anyother parks and do any other parks passes allow you entry at BPP plan to go early next year after 20 odd years it was the 1st week of the 1st original opening of Valhala my last visit also going to Alton towers air was latest ride last visit
Cheers pal top lad really love the videos keep up the good work as I said going to Pleasure Beach and Alton towers next year after 20 year and hopefully Phantasialand which has changed completely but for the Minetrain and Eftaling not changed so much just looks bigger and better and kept best old stuff Python was best ride the before the retrack I was about 13 I'm 45 now also want to do Europa Park to compare with Phantasialand and another Dutch park to compare to Eftaling maybe Walabi or Tower Toverland
Nice 1 can use it at Eftaling and Europa Park also after Germany and Netherlands I want to do Parqe de attractions Madrid and Portaventure and that's included too thanks Brother
So basically if you don’t like what you are experiencing you have to keep your gob shut 😂 since I’ve watched this channel years ago you have done nothing but support the park and are realistic in your comments to improve BPB. Keep up the good work guys YAAANITED
Bit of an own goal I think, Ive only ever heard season pass holders make constructive criticism, from a position of care, they would do well to listen to what customers, especially the most regular, have to say
Everyone cares about the future of the park, that's why we're all so passionate about it. No business should assume that customers will automatically be positive on arrival, they have every right to voice good and bad opinions
We 100% feel that the park could be run better. These self-destructive comments by a parks manager are ridiculous! Any whims, no matter how big or small, that an enthusiast makes on their RUclips or in person at the park; should be taken as constructive criticism! We are the true eyes of the public in a park, we tell it as it is in order to help guide the park to make improvements for the future. A lot of the time it can fall on deaf ears but thats better than the park not responding and then claiming we are just moaning for the sake of moaning! If you keep insulting or ignoring your regulars eventually there will be a day when they've had enough and won't come back!
I can see an apology coming from Amanda Thompson in a press statement soon regarding her comments, probably stating they were taken out of context,. Sadly i took an instant dislike to her in the old tv show they did many moons ago where she came across quite arrogant and narcissistic and her comments tend to bolster my beliefs... fancy saying that about her loyal customers, what an idiotic thing to do. the proactive thing to do is listen to comments and decide where improvements are are warrantied and/or possible
The awkward moment when passholders are more invested in BPB's future than the people who own it. Yikes. If I were a passholder, I'd be evaluating whether I want to get one next year 🤷♂️
what a lovely way to lose people's custom. they want to look at they way the park is going inc getting rid of 2 fan faves wild mouse and the monorail and as you say many more and barely replacing them,. they need to get some tins of paint out and give it a good clean before they have a go at dedicated people which include yourself and the group.and many others who spend thousands every year..
Some people do like to complain for complaints sake. However I would say that the vast majority of people who do complain, do so with the best of intentions, as they only want the park to succeed. But yeah, a public forum was probably not the best idea to air her thoughts on this subject.
I think blaming all season pass holders was a bit harsh, but the general public said these things as well, I heard quite alot of Nick streak needs a repaint so pointing the finger at season pass holders only was wrong
Think non pass holders are just as quick to spot patchy paint work, and probably associate it with ride safety. The Big One and Grand National look dreadful from outside the park
Do you think with Merlin buying the water park and other attractions in Blackpool that they could invest in pleasure beech I think the statement is harsh what Amanda said and the park does need some new ideas and investment
Merlin don’t own any attractions in Blackpool, only operate them with the council the owner. BPB need new investment in the ride lineup, and a better entry policy to keep people coming back.
I think the park has gone down hill in the past 10 years except icon. The majority of the rides ride too rough now. Park entry is too expensive, especially for families. Ice blast has lost its force. it's now boring. It used to have a great boost with good airtime. I still love the park but it needs some serious investment/work and fast. Amanda should not spite the hand that feeds the mouth. Very disappointed in her comments to be fair. Thought she was better than that. One last note I think pleasure beach is a night time theme park so they should do alot more events.
There's been a steady decline since the 2000s, but the 2010s seemed to be a sign of progress but here we are again; quiet park, no new attractions and fans being slated publicly.
🎉 the reason I will nvr go bk to bpb is charging 10pounds just to, walk round the place that's disgrace surely a fiver is adequate not everyone goes on the rides
When I met you on the park, we were literally talking about how we do this as enthusiasts. Complain and can't wait to do it all over again. I'm not a season pass holder but I'm writing this under my Icon blanket and it does leave a bitter taste in my mouth really. Ops wise, I actually think BPB actually does pretty well for the UK, especially when you look at the state Merlin is in for example although admittedly i dont have lots of BPB experience. But I'm still going to say it as it is when things aren’t right - the check in at every ride for example is really kind of ridiculous. Then there's comments like these, that show blatant disrespect for the customers and it's a really bad look. Unprofessional really.
Their ride availability is usually pretty good and consistent which can’t be said for their competitors, ops are ok but nothing like they can be. I really don’t understand why the comments about pass holders had to be made.
The ride line up today is decent, but as you say, over the last 20 years it is clear they were going for a much slimmed down BPB to fit with the current business model, less operational costs and staff on rides, money paid up on entry, shorter hours. Totally agree it has demonstrated a tolerant fanbase to still be here through a huge change like that in the park's history and part of what made us love it in the first place. It is less accessible than in the past to day trippers, families etc I would argue. After watching your follow on vid, the '23 review, firstly I hope you are feeling better. I literally feel your pain with sinuses! For next year I hope a few rides get a 'glow up' as clearly there is nothing new on the horizon, must be the longest spell in memory with nothing new at all and can only hope what budget they have goes on maintaining what we have now. It is a concern that we are going to be getting on for a decade really without a new addition to attract people when you think anything major would be at least 2 years away or so. Difficult times perhaps I know and I am thankful we still have a Pleasure Beach in whatever shape or form. Still my favourite
Let’s all be honest Amanda is bang out of order it’s not the rides that make the business it’s the loyal enthusiasts and Blackpool must have the most loyal fans apart from icon in 2018 infusion was really the last rollercoaster built in 2007 that’s 11 years of nothing
@@yourexperienceguide definitely and yet enthusiasts still go ever week and Amanda Moans about arson pass holders complaining she really must be mad it’s a long time to go with out investing in a rollercoaster and the rollercoaster is the king of the theme park
I wouldn't class it as moaning but more constructive critism which every company should be open to, its how things improve. If BPB don't listen to feedback then how do they know what people want?
@CamGold moaning about fans is not cool for any company to do no matter how entitled they come over.season pass holders are your true fans to a park and should be treated so
I just don't understand Amanda Thompson you own a theme park you have the best job in the world what do you think is going to happen you should be gagged at the entrance same with funfair showman they don't like filming or people if you don't like it why have you got a theme park or a funfair why
We don't complain because we hate BPP, we complain because we love the place and want to see it successful.
Exactly this
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely that.
Good to see someone speaking their mind on this matter and not being afraid to do so
Felt things needed to be point out there rather than just commenting on X
Noah's ark and that big Gyro swing were also closed/ removed and not replaced. It's the lack of new rides that worries me about PB they are getting left behind. Nobody expects new rides every season but I would expect something new every 3-4 years just to stay competitive.
And a lot of the current rides approaching the end of service life 😬
Crazy when you list out all the removed rides. It’s very sad thinking back on great years spent at Pleasure Beach. So many rides gone. Still can’t accept the Wild Mouse was torn down. The area around there now is awful looking. Hopefully better days are coming for Pleasure Beach.
All of the North area of the Pleasure Beach needs redevelopment
Thank you Laura
For any business to improve, they have to listen to their customers. Like many others that watch your vlogs we love BPB and desperately want to see it succeed. Spent last weekend at the BPB and had a great time even though the weather wasn't the greatest. We are making plans to visit again next year. Your comments are always honest, so don't feel like you have to justify yourself because of this. keep up the good work it's much appreciated 👍
Thank you and agreed
In all the years of visiting BPB I’ve never heard anyone say the park should be like Disney 😅
The problem is Blackpool hasn't stood still during this time, and there's a lot more attractions now that offer better value for money and a better guest experience and don't shut at 5/6 pm.
i love BPB it’s really sad to see it going downhill, this is my first year i haven’t been, hope they bring something to bring back the guests
Completely agree with you Roger
My daughter rode Icon for the first time a few weeks ago. She said that Pleasure Beach does not deserve Icon as it's too good for the park.
Out of the mouth of babes 😆
Lol oh dear
I hate when companies just blame they fans like a moody teenager when they have valid criticisms instead of acknowledging the problems and sorting things out
Monorail carriage can be seen dumped behind a fence while on the pleasure beach express near Big blue. ... go carts gone ... Great video
Thank you
After visiting Thorpe Park for the first time last year, BPB is only Icon for me now, and I have been a season pass holder in the past.
I like both parks
Really balanced this Scott 👍
I can see how it must be difficult hearing criticism pretty regularly when things like Valhalla (which must’ve been way over budget) plus good food and shop options have come through this year.
But it’s a bit short sighted to call out the loyal fans who do champion a lot still (big one, grand national etc.) - I always see it as wanting the best for BPB, not just slagging the place off
Thanks John, we definitely want the best for BPB even if feedback isn’t always saying the park is the best thing ever
You're more than entitled to your opinion mate. As season pass holders, you put more money into the Pleasure Beach than anyone, she should be aware that enthusiasts are going to be more critical. She could've simply said we don't have the money to do xyz and everyone would understand.
Thank you, there was so many better ways to say what was said
Yes you're totally right, fans do care and criticism should be seen as a good thing - the powers that be don't get to experience the park like fans do.
Fellow season pass holder here, along with my family.
Excellently put, Scott, couldn’t agree with you more.
Keep up the great work.
Thank you
Excellent commentary, my friend!
Far too often this year I had very quiet days at BPB and left the park to see heaving crowds on the sea front. Pricing and entry policy is all wrong.
@@yourexperienceguide I agree with that sentiment whole heartedly!
Im from manchester originaly and grew up with holidays and days out to Blackpool in the 70s,80s and 90s, I loved it when they used to charge at the actual rides to go on them OR you could buy a book of tickets with the various a, b, c ect designations for the rides and could mix and match those ,( as in if you were a family with kids you could buy a book of tickets that had mre rides in it for the kids ect) , I loved (and still do ) the pleasure beach
BUT as as been mentioned its the cost since they brought in the wristbands , or whatever they have now AND taken away * as i have been told to just buy an entrance band to walk around the park (not everyone can or wants to go on the rides such as a family who bring thier grandparents with them on holiday to spend time with thier grandkids ( i mean lets face NOT many 70 to 80 yr olds will want to ride a coaster or even wouldnt be allowed with health probs)
..I loved my coasters and rode the big one NOW im a lot older (im 53 ) and due to health problems such as having 2 strokes and blood presure i can no longer ride the big coasters such as the big one, icon (wich i would love to ride but sadly cant take the chance) Luckiy i can still do the clasic woodies ect BUT as i now live down in Bristol for the past 18 yrs ..not visited it for yrs and i think the LAST time i was in Blackpool it was an October about 15 yrs ago on a weeks visit home to see family so went to Blackpool for an over night stay as my partner had never been !
The comment at Valhalla’s opening was unnecessary too
I think what Amanda has to realise is that season pass holders are what keeps the parks alive.
She should not bite the hands that feed .
@@davidGPS95 Very true, fans are allowed to be critical Amanda!
Definitely not on the fence there my friend 😅
I never like a video before seeing it through to the end but you've already made some excellent points and the one which I go by is that enthusiasts make comments because they care and want to see these parks do well.
Thank you, the biggest fans are always the biggest critics
Couldn't agree more every fan of anything will always have an opinion good or bad, regardless of what the opinion is dosent mean they love the thing they have an opinion on any less
Exactly, biggest fans are always the biggest critics too
I do feel that what Amanda said in the podcast has been blown out of context and proportion and not everyone fully listened to what she said .
It's just disappointing that fans are publicly moaned at, especially when a lot of fans only want BPB to be the best it can be.
All fan bases are passionate, the biggest fans are always the biggest critics
I love the honesty I'm very critical most of the time it's because we are street wise and don't stand for the rubbish they tell us if it wasn't for pass holders the parks would shut !!!!!
BPB fans have always wanted BPB to be at a high standard
A long list of removed rides (you missed the tea cups) and not a lot added. The unfortunate consequence of moving towards a POP park. And I can see more going before we get anything else. The park is clearly in a big hole (in part due to the failure of icon to boost numbers). Hope they have deep enough pockets to turn things round but the last 10-15 years have seen a steady decline.
Missed Noah’s Ark too 🤨
The decline is sad to see.
And Bling!
Bite the hand that feeds you...
We adore Blackpool pleasure beach
❤ but thats not the way to attract new visitors with comments like that. Thanks for addressing this!
It was disappointing to hear pass holders and fans get moaned about again, even worse that it's not the first time this year.
Next year I have not renewed as a 30% increase for nothing new just didn’t work for us
That’s fair enough
I do wonder how much of a success this season would be counted as if no season pass holders had attended at all.
It’s bad form to insult your core customer.
As you pointed out, history doesn’t bode well and certainly doesn’t exclude negative feedback.
Park has been dead on 99% of my visits this year even with the same pass holder faces there, concerning times
See you there :)
I've been a regular visitor to BPB since i was a child in the '80s
I think that this years visit shall be my last, its probably a combination of things but the park has lost is character and its "magic"
Valhalla and icon are special but everything else feels like it could use some TLC and much of the park just feels like its half open
Such a shame
It's a shame to see BPB where it is right now
So true what you said!
Saturday will be a good day 🎢
They can be quite abrasive and rude to their most dedicated visitors. Kinda shitty.
It is disappointing to hear pass holders and fans get moaned about again, it's not the first time this year.
You have a right of input ,you like alot of people are and have paid in x amount of cash into the pleasure beach for tickets etc so it's your right as a valued customer. Ime sure amanda didn't mean any harm she has alot of business to look after must be mind blowing at times.
Sometimes things are best left unsaid, and the pass holder comments come under that category.
Spot on there Scott ...
Thanks Aaron
As you said guest experience has declined so much that even the decline in quality of 20 years ago would seem like an improvement over the current quality.
Parks should strive to improve over time and being upset that your guests expect it to at least not get worse is damning evidence that management doesn’t care.
The guest experience anytime between 2000-2008 would be a huge improvement on anything since then
Yeah BPB is odd and i cant stick up for them.
Ive visited Alton a lot this year and its been the worse they have had. We are season pass holders because we love the place, want to see them thrive and contiune to be better.
I think Mandy had been pretty foolish here. Spot on with your points here.
Thanks Nick
How to completely piss off your loyal customers. Frightening 🤷🏻♂️
It was sad to hear the comments
Being a rail enthusiast, well transport mostly. We always criticise the railways at how bad they really are
To be fair they’re in a bad way
@pleasurebeachexperience. massively Scott, I've noticed in my local area around the West County, the operator GWR has often had short trains, lack of disabled assistance and very uncomfortable seats on the intercity routes
Very good video, I think a lot of people forget just how many rides have been closed and how very few new rides have come.
It's actually quite depressing to think about just how much was lost.
So many attractions, even shows, have been taken out since the early 2000s.
Doubt many other amusement parks have declined so harshly so quickly.
Pass holder comments were worth keeping in the board room and not in the public domain
I honestly doubt any BPB fan has ever wanted the park to be like Disney
When I first heard of this story, I couldn't wait to hear your views. Let's go
It disappointed me and I felt it needed to be discussed
I would never complain about Blackpool plessure beach unless things are not running well that day, it's going to be such a shame that ice blast is going to be taken out of the park next year 😢
Ice Blast removed who told you that ? 😮
It been on RUclips watch some blogs and they will tell you it maybe just whispers
It's about time they went back on the cash only thing
No-one knows a park better than people who go every other week, they'll be far more invested than GP who pay to visit once a year and won't notice any long-term problems with the park. There's a place for both, and to disregard such a key amount of guests is a huge oversight I think.
It was sad to hear the comments in what was otherwise a good podcast
Thank you. It’s been a huge shame seeing BPB have so many dead days at what should be peak times. Something has to change.
Excellent... Passion ❤
Thanks for watching and commenting
Why do they only run 2 trains on the big one and not 3 anymore
The park director, like any of us, are perfectly entitled to their opinions and like any of us, entitled to post it how ever they see fit to do so. Its as simple as that.
No denying that, but not sure criticising those who bring a solid source of income every year is a great business strategy
Family owned businesses should still expect to receive feedback IMO
You can get into other parks with the BPB pass, the full list is on their season pass webpage
Thank you 🙏
Bit of an own goal I think, Ive only ever heard season pass holders make constructive criticism, from a position of care, they would do well to listen to what customers, especially the most regular, have to say
Start by binning scanning, bring back non rider passes and look at prices to enter
Everyone cares about the future of the park, that's why we're all so passionate about it. No business should assume that customers will automatically be positive on arrival, they have every right to voice good and bad opinions
@@yourexperienceguide absolutely agree with you, spot on video
We remember when Blackpool pleasure beach was ran properly lol same with Manchester United
Completely agree
I can see an apology coming from Amanda Thompson in a press statement soon regarding her comments, probably stating they were taken out of context,. Sadly i took an instant dislike to her in the old tv show they did many moons ago where she came across quite arrogant and narcissistic and her comments tend to bolster my beliefs... fancy saying that about her loyal customers, what an idiotic thing to do. the proactive thing to do is listen to comments and decide where improvements are are warrantied and/or possible
Honestly don’t think an apology or any further acknowledgement of it will be made
The awkward moment when passholders are more invested in BPB's future than the people who own it. Yikes.
If I were a passholder, I'd be evaluating whether I want to get one next year 🤷♂️
A lot of people didn’t renew after that podcast, and plenty considering not renewing for next year
Amanda doesn't value her regulars neither does she value the public, neither those who have genuine concerns.
Why doesn’t the big one run on 3 trains anymore?
what a lovely way to lose people's custom. they want to look at they way the park is going inc getting rid of 2 fan faves wild mouse and the monorail and as you say many more and barely replacing them,. they need to get some tins of paint out and give it a good clean before they have a go at dedicated people which include yourself and the group.and many others who spend thousands every year..
It is disappointing to hear pass holders and fans get moaned about again, it's not the first time this year.
Some people do like to complain for complaints sake. However I would say that the vast majority of people who do complain, do so with the best of intentions, as they only want the park to succeed. But yeah, a public forum was probably not the best idea to air her thoughts on this subject.
Agreed
Their biggest mistake was going "CASHLESS" I certainly won't be going back. Used to stay at the Big Blue and spend loads of money. NOT ANY MORE 👋
Everything is becoming Cashless now , Pizza Hut , Domino's, Burger King , Football stadiums , Supermarkets etc it's gonna get worse !
If it was said I just find it immature.........maybe she was having a bad day and didn't think we would here about it ?
Podcast is linked in the video description 😊
I think blaming all season pass holders was a bit harsh, but the general public said these things as well, I heard quite alot of Nick streak needs a repaint so pointing the finger at season pass holders only was wrong
Think non pass holders are just as quick to spot patchy paint work, and probably associate it with ride safety.
The Big One and Grand National look dreadful from outside the park
Looking on the bright side, at least you can't say Amanda Thompson doesn't listen.
We know people at the park listen, comments made that aren’t favourable have been brought up in the past
Do you think with Merlin buying the water park and other attractions in Blackpool that they could invest in pleasure beech I think the statement is harsh what Amanda said and the park does need some new ideas and investment
Merlin don’t own any attractions in Blackpool, only operate them with the council the owner.
BPB need new investment in the ride lineup, and a better entry policy to keep people coming back.
without season pass holders, she might as well sell to merlin, down hill since 90s bpb has so much potential bus she let it down
It is sad to see where BPB is now compared to twenty five years ago
Couldn't agree more 👍
Thank you
Oh dear!
😅
@@yourexperienceguide correct
🎉 the reason I will nvr go bk to bpb is charging 10pounds just to, walk round the place that's disgrace surely a fiver is adequate not everyone goes on the rides
It's pay one price now, the entry pass has been scrapped altogether
There is something ever so slightly "Alan Partridge" about Amanda, isn't there.
😮
Ah the wild mouse, look what’s there now 😂
Six years since it was removed for "future developments"
@pleasurebeachexperience. I really don't feel it had to be made. It makes her look unprofessional to the point of incompetence imo.
Before Infusion it was the Big One 😮
@@yourexperienceguide definitely and yet enthusiasts still go ever week and Amanda Moans about arson pass holders complaining she really must be mad it’s a long time to go with out investing in a rollercoaster and the rollercoaster is the king of the theme park
I wouldn't class it as moaning but more constructive critism which every company should be open to, its how things improve. If BPB don't listen to feedback then how do they know what people want?
Completely agree
Potentially alienating your most frequent customers is certainly a choice
It’s a shame about the comments because the podcast was decent
Is said podcast a month old Scott?
Yeah, but the article about it was posted yesterday
Oh great tomorrow I'm getting 3 season tickets tomorrow ifvit wasn't for my kids I'd not bother hearing this
I’m a little confused what you mean
@CamGold moaning about fans is not cool for any company to do no matter how entitled they come over.season pass holders are your true fans to a park and should be treated so
It has certainly got people questioning if to renew or not
Torie belittling the one's who pay their wage.
😬
Hey guys come and buy my annual pass.
HOW DARE YOU HAVE THOUGHTS ON THE PARK THOUGH
It’s a shame the comments were made in what was otherwise a good podcast
Seems a strange buisness strategy to criticize your most loyal customers - bit of a ratner moment - perhaps bps should engage with the fanbase
It was a strange move, and I don't think everyone at Pleasure Beach agrees with those comments that were made
I just don't understand Amanda Thompson you own a theme park you have the best job in the world what do you think is going to happen you should be gagged at the entrance same with funfair showman they don't like filming or people if you don't like it why have you got a theme park or a funfair why
