As an aussie, although I do wince a little when hearing the temps complained about, not having proper AC, even in something as moderate as an 85F (30C) day, really can suck, especially when the houses themselves weren't intended for heat when they were built, and high humidity can make things even worse. For us it's the exact same when it's cold, winter solstice was just a few days ago and every morning I wake up with windows dripping wet from condensation, because our house was old enough to be installed without insulated walls and double-glazed windows. It's not just the heat itself, it's also infrastructure and what you're body's used to, especially when heatstroke becomes a concern, which is no joke.
