France 12. Luxembourg 11. Monaco 10. Spain 9. UK 8. Switzerland 7. Austria 6. Denmark 5. Israel 4. Italy 3. Ireland 2. Belgium 1. Finland (should have won, such an emotive song and sang really well).
Watching back the 1978 contest one of the most interesting things to me is how Terry Wogan in his commentary seemed convinced that Co-Co was the heavy favorite to win and that no other country had a chance, then they ended up getting one of the UK's worst finishes at that point

This top it's quite unique! I think is the only one I've seen that has Turkey as the favorite. My favorite from this year is definitely Greece, followed by Ireland!
I agree with you about Jahn Teigan though. Considering being the first performer to get nul points under the current point scoring system made him a star and got put on a postage stamp along with the actual Norwegian winners - I'd say he had the last laugh so to speak. Legend!!! Agree too about Coco - I've a bit of a soft spot for that song, it's a bit underated IMO.

I have to say this was the strongest year for songs. At least 7 could have won. The UKs entry is one of the most underrated but my top 3 would be Italy, Belgium & UK. Italy and Belgium have not sent anything as good since.
Hm, on this one I have to disagree. In my mind not that good of a year - very similar sounding songs and the one that sticks out for me was the actual winner..., sorry 😜

I think 1978 was a weak year without any really outstanding ones. So much similarity between different contestants.
Really? This was totally a strong year. Baccara, Ricchi e Poveri, Jose Velez we’re all very popular and even had successful careers in Latin America.
