It's too bad Namdai Bamco thought that the Wii was the best system for this to be on. I can understand them not wanting to do a full, proper release since this game is such an offshoot from the normal games, but going with a new console and relying so hard on the waggle nonsense really held this idea back I think.
Sadly it wasn't the only series or developer who tossed ideas with potential on the Wii and were just given controls that killed the experience. Dragon Quest Swords is another one I thought had potential but was ruined by Wii controls.
You know Tekken force is great you have all your moves the ones with directional inputs vary depending on the camera position , with a little bit of polish and maybe local multiplayer it's the best beat em up ever, what I'm trying to say is we all know they could've on their own done a better job with this game
I was talking to a friend of mine about that mode, and we both agreed that Soul Calibur seemed like the perfect game to implement a beat-em-up-style mode into it, given the sense of adventure that it always had even as a fighting game.
In case anyone is interested on playing this on dolphin with a normal controller: *map your left, right, up and down attack buttons to the forward wiimote's swing, then map those same buttons individually to their correspondent swings. Additionally map your two vertical attack buttons (up & down) to waggle Y or they wont work correctly.* *Then map your stab button to backwards swing.* *For dodges is a bit similar, map you forward, left and right dodge buttons to the nunchuck's forward swing, then dodge forward to down swing, dodge backwards to up, and left / right respectively.* Dodges work inconsistently (about 70% of the time but they're usable. Attacks always work and its very easy to do complex combos.
Oooh, right, I didn't remember that. That was the only reason why I looked at it for a bit. I also remember seeing it for like nothing on bargain bins, but at that time I already forgot it had Lloyd in it or else I would have bought it.
Lloyd is in it probably to promote Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World that was going to be released in the following year after Soulcalibur Legends, back when that Tales game was a Wii exclusive. Might also be a nod that Tales of Symphonia was first released for the Nintendo Gamecube.
*The 2 main things I like from this game is Barbaros, Fafnir the Dragon and Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia.* Speaking of Dragon, I would LOVE that as a giant Boss Fight in a future Soul Calibur Game.
Max, this was actually my introduction to the Soul Calibur series. In Middle School, my best friend and I were at a Family Video trying to figure out what game to rent. I suggested this one because I played SCIV once and thought it was fun. Seeing you play this gave me such nostalgia. Even though it’s easily forgettable and regarded as not a great game, I love it because it was my introduction to the series. I played the CRAP out of this game with my best friend and didn’t stop until we beat it
I personally like this game because it is closer to the aesthetic and atmosphere of SC 1-3 (mostly because models and areas from SC 2&3 are reused), which I have always preferred to the ones of the HD games. So even though I didn't play it "as a kid", this game give me a feel of nostalgia :)
Iska's got the slicked back white hair, the red and blue heterochromia, AND he's a jester. Did the character designer just finish playing DMC3 and decide to fuse some characters together?
If Soul Calibur 6 is successful I would love to another attempt at a spin off game. I think a Dynasty Warriors style Soul Calibur would be cool. Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate showed that a Soul Calibur character(Sophitia) could work on a Dynasty Warriors style game and how awesome would it be to play characters like Nightmare and decimate thousands of enemies. The story could either be a retelling of previous games or a brand new one. A quick story I think could work is Hilde gathering the forces of her country and recruiting heroes from the Soul Calibur world to stop Nightmare and his army of monsters and evil characters.
If they remember the Tales of the Sword campaing from 3, and made an hybrid of a strategy rpg with fighting game mechanics like it was, i think it would sell LOTS. That minigame was legit awesome.
Good idea for a story :) A love Hilde, it's honestly the best character they created post SC3, feeling way more like a SC1-3 character than the anime-ass / copied one they have made since... :/ I hoped she had made it into SC6
Well at least it had a Tales of character which is Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia in it. But to be honest i wish they add him in the fighting Soul Calibur game instead (i also would've like him in Super Smash Bros and not as a mii costume) but whatever.
This was during a weird time when Namco wanted their fighting games to have spin off games of different genres. There was also that one game starring Nina from Tekken. It's a cool concept that I wish would be revisited with better care
The story doesn't take long if you have a actual wii remote however you also required learning the bs motion. Taki had her one shot kill move in this game which was great. The multiplayer was even odder.
Never even heard of this Soul Calibur game before this video... I really like the Tekken Force modes in the Tekken games so I would probably like this game as well tbh... I do agree with Max about how it should of been a bonus mode in one of the Soul Calibur games instead though...
once you calibrated wii right and get yourself adjusted its a fun game. though nothing is hard so you gotta challenge yourself in being stylish or not getting hit.
Honestly, just looking at the game.... It almost looks decent? But, the controls are what likely ruined it.... Like, the MECHANICS look solid enough. If the attacks were just mapped to normal buttons, as opposed to motion controls.... The controls look good. However, I DO see another potential issue.... The actual objectives. I feel like it's one of those games that just chucks enemies at you. And nothing more. (And unlike say, Dynasty Warriors, there's no draw of playing as almost 100 characters. Or fighting what looks like an army.) I feel like if it was a focused game along the lines of DMC.... It could have been a great spinoff in the SC series.
at first i thought this was that F2P soul calibur game that came out after 5 until the narrator mentioned Barbaros. That was the thing that reminded me of what this game was. And once i saw the masked emperor in person i could feel all memories of the story just pouring in again
Admittedly despite the forced waggle controls this game had it's a bit of a Guilty pleasure type of game to me. Not good could've been better if it allowed us of the Classic or Gamecube Controller to play the characters cause it honestly feels more suited for that control scheme but it could've been way worse.
19:52 I recognize that sound effect. When the dragon is about to attack, its grunt sounded like Donkey Kong's grunt in Super Smash Bros Melee where he attacks with a Headbutt, which is his Side B Special Move. That sound clip could be from anywhere else, but I recognized it as soon as I heard it.
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who actually, unironically really like SC Legends. The only issue I had with it was the earlier mentioned Wiggle Waggle nonsense. That aside, it was a fine game.
I actually liked this game. I wouldn't mind seeing Bandai-Namco do another Soul game that was a Hack and Slash game just try to make the actual Hack and Slash gameplay a little bit better. And for plot it can be set after the events of the Libra of Souls mode since the Libra of Souls plot is confirmed to be a non-canon sequel to the Soul Chronicles plot the writers would have the freedom to write a good storyline without being restricted by the main canon. Also have a function where you can transfer over your Libra of Souls CaS.

Something I kinda wished they've done with this game is when you're fighting against actual characters from the Soul-Calibur series, you actually fight them in traditional Soul-Calibur fashion. Of course, normal controls would be nice as well, but still. Or for the characters that are from Soul-Calibur (both characters you can play as and the ones you have to fight against like a boss fight), there could've been a traditional Arcade mode and Vs. mode in the game and the Adventure Mode could be just its own separate mode.
Love how the comment sections in the first three games are all "THIS ONE IS THE BEST IN THE SERIES!" while this one is like "...I forgot about this one..."
