Not sure if you know, but power gets distributed throughout the universe. So you can setup a habitat airlock and put a corridor astroid miner on it without putting any power (solar, habitat battery) on it.

got pretty far ahead of you now so I can watch w/o worrying about spoilers. found a killer nickel asteroid field to drop a mining bot into. also pulse tapping the scanner in those caves will locate those nodes on the wall for you. do it while moving and the field moves with you.
