It's true, her performance, in just ten days of preparation for the part, was exceptional, she made the role her own and duetted with the glacial Young-seo perfectly; this also fits with the concept of harmony that the director was trying to teach with the lesson on combat. In any case, I didn't expect that after a dazzling debut, everything would change so quickly with our protagonist kicked out of the academy, ended up on the street, robbed, in jail and then preparing for a dazzling debut in the then new medium that was television. Sudden changes in just two episodes, incredible. I'm loving this drama, in general I have a weakness for competitive stories with an underdog protagonist who proves his worth and in general I love the spirit of friendship that is created through rivalry, things that I already loved in 25 21 and that I'm finding here, always with Kim Tae-ri in the lead. I also like how, despite the aforementioned success of the debut, it is not so easy to change the minds of snobbish or icy people and that respect and friendship cannot be created out of nothing, but it must be earned. It is still not clear what happened in Jeong-nyeon's mother's past to make her hate pansori, but I'm curious. In any case, it was already clear why Young-seo was a cold bitch with everyone, but now more than ever you can't help but feel a little sorry for her because of how her mother treats her and the pressure she receives, although it does not justify her being, in fact, a haughty bitch no matter how good she is at what she does. Exciting and fantastic drama.

However, I have noticed that twelve-episode series have a common flaw, some more than others: they are unable to manage the number of episodes well and often find themselves putting too many things to say and do in the last episodes leaving a feeling of haste. Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born is, unfortunately, no exception to this trend, even if it has no noteworthy flaws to penalize its viewing, it is, more than anything, a lack of breath in certain parts and an "open" ending that may not satisfy entirely. For example, in the last episode, it is revealed that Eun-jae, Hye-rang's niece, is actually her daughter and I think this would have deserved its own in-depth analysis, which perhaps would have also benefited Hye-rang's character to make her more multifaceted and not just a negative character, obsessed with Ok-gyeong and crushing anything that comes between her and her goals. In this regard, she is not given a clear redemption, but rather a detachment from what obsessed her and brought out, despite herself, the worst in herself and therefore a focus on what remains. Another point that I would have preferred to be better handled is the recovery of Jeong-nyeon's voice, in the sense that I would have expected that, finding her way, she would have found a new voice, but in fact, after the "duel" between her and Young-seo, her voice returns exactly the same as before, so the vocal change that I would have expected to hear is not highlighted. Likewise, I would have liked a much more extended finale, which would have shown what fate would have befallen the girls and the company after the final show and how gukguek would have survived the advent of the modern world (cinema and television). That said, which seems like I just want to badmouth it, in reality these are the only things that left me a little perplexed, but that said, the last two episodes were a triumph, as was the rest of the series: I loved how the relationship between Jeong-nyeon and Young-seo evolved over time to become a sincere and heartfelt friendship, but also a healthy artistic rivalry that allows them to improve each other and seeing them perform together in the last show was wonderful. Speaking of the show, I couldn't help but notice how the opera they chose was a clear departure from the previous shows, a much more modern opera, with songs that almost seemed like a rock opera with contemporary rhythms and I found it wonderful, as well as a sort of evolution of gukguek to the modern world. We cannot help but talk about the saddest thing of all, that is, Joo-ran's farewell: here I see a certain awareness, a maturity of the series, which does not forget the era in which it is set and the context in which it is found and finds in Joo-ran its channel to remind us of the difficulties of life and of the world, in which she must give up herself for the good of the family. Those were other times and here they were portrayed very well, but I found the farewell between Joo-ran and Jeong-nyeon the most moving thing of the entire series, which was able to make us immediately and well attached to her and to the deep friendship with Jeong-nyeon that it is impossible not to be struck by it. It may seem like a small thing, but even the scene in which, finally, for the first time really, we see Young-seo's mother applaud and really move in front of her daughter's performance, finally recognizing her, finally seeing her; We don't know if the relationship between them will improve, but even that scene alone was a very happy gift. In the end there is not much else to say, an amazing series, that perhaps would have deserved sixteen episodes to fix and give breath to the somewhat rushed things of the last act, but overall it remains one of the best dramas of the year, the best performance by Kim Tae-ri and one of the most touching stories of competition that I remember.
I really looked out for Okgyeong's screen at the last and jeongnyeon's friend.. but It felt like rushed at some point. But I have to admit that every character nailed their role especially the main cast. I love how always Kim Tae ri adapt every role so perfectly... and friendship between Jeongnyeon and Young Seo is really heartwarming. They're like complement to each other. Their rivalry made them the best.. help them to grow and the same time they're understanding towards each other.
